Because we counted Undertaker earlier and he was only in the 90s.
Guest Ray Posted December 19, 2003 Report Posted December 19, 2003 Top ten: The Undertaker 104 Triple H 85 The Rock 73 Kane 71 Steve Austin 69 Shawn Michaels 68 Billy Gunn 63 Bret Hart 60 Owen Hart 58 Davey Boy Smith 58 @ Billy Gunn I'm assuming you count UK PPVs? Because we counted Undertaker earlier and he was only in the 90s. Eh, it's not my list, so I don't know what's counted. http://www.wrestlinginformer.net/match_list4.htm
Dandy Posted December 19, 2003 Author Report Posted December 19, 2003 Lesnar is getting up the list pretty quick. With the brand-specific PPV's now, a wrestler will typically have the chance for 8 PPV's a year, barring roster trades or changes of formats. It looks like Taker will hold that spot for a loooong time.
Dandy Posted December 19, 2003 Author Report Posted December 19, 2003 Oh, 8 PPV's plus the UK PPV's which it appears counts on that list.
Slickster Posted December 19, 2003 Report Posted December 19, 2003 That's the way I look at it. I look at it similar to an elimination match. You wouldn't count the Rumble to be 29 matches, so every time someone is eliminated, it is not a match. You can survive to the end, or be eliminated and replaced by another team. Barring human error, what ALWAYS defines a wrestling match? Answer: The ringing of the bell to start and end it. When the first two teams of Tag Team Turmoil are about to lock up, the bell rings. When one team loses, the bell rings (ending the match) and the ring announcer declares the winner of the match. When team #3 enters the ring, the bell is rung again (to start a new match). The length of the match is irrelevant; be it Bundy-SD Jones (WM1), Mero-Sable (OTE98), Bossman-Rock (SS98)...because the bell was rung to start and end it, the length of the match has no bearing on whether or not it is a 'real' match. Otherwise, you're arbitrarily lumping matches together because they were 'too short.' Oh, and your Rumble argument doesn't hold water because a) the bell only rings at the beginning and end, not after each elimination; and b) most importantly, Howard Finkel has stated in his Rumble introductions that "[it] is now time for the Royal Rumble MATCH ."
Guest Coffey Posted December 19, 2003 Report Posted December 19, 2003 If we're counting WCW PPVs, someone gimme a count on Hulk Hogan.
Guest Man Of 1,004 Modes Posted December 19, 2003 Report Posted December 19, 2003 The Most Hogan could have done in WCW was around 60, I'm not sure which he didn't wrestle at. Then consider he wrestled on WWF PPV's form 1985-1992 and a few in 2002/2003. So he might be near 100+
deancoles Posted December 19, 2003 Report Posted December 19, 2003 Flair and Lawler must have done a lot of ppvs,Flair because of wcw and lawler because of his announcing.
IWD Posted December 19, 2003 Report Posted December 19, 2003 Including WCW, I count Ric Flair as 66, and Hogan as 61.
Dandy Posted December 19, 2003 Author Report Posted December 19, 2003 Hollywood Fashion Plate, I agree with what you say about the bell ringing ending and starting the matches, so you changed my opinion on Tag-Team Turmoil. It is still my opinion that they should treat it as one match, but they don't, as you pointed out. And I wasn't trying to state that Rumble should be considered 29 individual matches, I was just using that as an analogy of how the TTT was broken down. Long story short, I think it would make more sense if TTT was considered one match.
Guest Dynamite Kido Posted December 19, 2003 Report Posted December 19, 2003 The quote by JR was "matches" on PPV. Not how many PPV's he had wrestled on. Has Shawn ever pulled double duty on a PPV? I can't think of that ever happening Not counting Royal Rumbles I take it.
TheFranchise Posted December 19, 2003 Report Posted December 19, 2003 Randy Orton is SO eclipsing that...
Dandy Posted December 19, 2003 Author Report Posted December 19, 2003 Brock is the man that has a great shot at it. He holds a main event slot, and will probably not give that up in the near future, barring severe injury or some other happening. And when you consider that if Edge had not been injured for all of this year, he would be in the top ten........that is something.
