The Smartmarks Official Video Game Awards

Recommended Posts

You may (or probably don't) recall that last year we did this...so this will be year 2.

Here's last year's results for those who care:

PC Game of the Year: Medal of Honor: Allied Assault

Multiplayer Game of the Year: TIE: Mario Party 4 and TimeSplitters 2

Sports Game of the Year (Simulation): NFL 2k3

Sports Game of the Year (Action): Tony Hawk 4

Racing Game of the Year: Need for Speed 2: Hot Pursuit

Fighting Game of the Year: Virtua Fighter 4

RPG of the Year: 3 way tie: Final Fantasy X, Kingdom Hearts and Elder Scrolls 3: Morrowind

Platform Game of the Year: Super Mario Sunshine

First Person Game of the Year: Metroid Prime

Action Game of the Year: Grand Theft Auto: Vice City

Advenure Game of the Year: Eternal Darkness

Doesn't fit into any other category Game of the Year: Animal Crossing

Most Innovative Game of the Year: Animal Crossing

Worst Game of the Year: WrestleMania X8

Most Dissapointing Game of the Year: WrestleMania X8

Most Surprising (surprisingly good that is) Game of the Year: Smackdown: Shut Your Mouth

GBA Game of the Year: Metroid Fusion

XBox Game of the Year: Splinter Cell

Gamecube Game of the Year: Metroid Prime

PS2 Game of the Year: Grand Theft Auto: Vice City

Console of the Year: PS2

Game of the Year: Grand Theft Auto: Vice City

Last year we had a bit of a case where people not having Gamecubes and Xboxs tilted the voting a bit. What I mean is...everybody who had Metroid Prime voted for it...and everyone else voted for Vice City. I hope that isn't the case this year...since PS2 winning console of the year in a year where I bought 2...TWO games for it would be a big joke.

Anyway...on with the stuff:

As always...Action Game of the Year is where we dump everything that doesn't fit adventure or platforming...and first person game of the year doesn't necessarily mean FPS...it just means games played from a First Person Perspective. (Metroid Prime won last year)

For you mini game fans of Wario Ware and Mario Party I suggest to look for Bomberman Jetters Collection and Zooooo on GBA. Too bad both are Japanese only games.

Bwahahahahahahahaha bps.

For me, the PS2 simply had the most, and the best, exclusive games to me. That's my reasoning behind picking the PS2.

Same here. I can still count on one hand the number of X-Box titles that I'm interested in, and the number of Gamecube games I've deemed "worth owning" and haven't traded in.

That's just how I sounded until I got an Xbox.

Gamecube offered me nothing this year. PS2 gave me Manhunt.

I play Xbox hours a week.

What's so special about KOTOR?

An RPG where you can replay the game and not experience the identical game twice?

Best RPG I've ever seen.

2) What exclusive games, besides KOTOR, have been so great for the Xbox this year?

Oh...and Deus Ex 2 was a good one too.

Add KOTOR to that, and the fact that every non EA game is just a better purchase on the box...and I can't find where PS2's outdated hardware and mediocre game releases consitute best console again this year.

This is like last year where GC had Eternal Darkness, Metroid Prime and a bunch of other games I liked...and PS2 had...um...CONSOLE OF THE YEAR!

No, I don't play online bps. If I could find out if my AOL DSL will work with Xbox Live, I would start to though. I like the PS2 better this year for the following exclusive games that you can't get anywhere else, at least right now...

1) Manhunt

2) Castlevania: Lament of Innocence

3) Jak II

4) Ratchet & Clank: Going Comando

5) WWE Smackdown: Here Comes The Pain

6) Space Channel 5: Special Edition

7) Amplitude

8) Socom II

9) Silent Hill 3

10) FFX-2 (I didn't play this one, but many love it.)

11) Fatal Frame 2

12) Tenchu: Wrath of Heaven

13) Karaoke Revolution

14) Eye Toy

15) Mega Man X7

16) Devil May Cry 2

17) Disgaea (I didn't play this one either, but many like it.)

...so not counting the two on that list that I never played and then all of the other exclusives that I can't even think of, and add that to my lack of Xbox Live, the PS2 just released the most and best exclusive games this year to me.

I also loved Clock Tower 3, Virtua Fighter 4 Evolution, and Ape Escape 2 for the PS2 this year.

As far as DMC2 goes, the only thing I had against it is that it didn't meet or excede my expectations for it. It was still an ok way to pass time though for what it ended up being.
