Firefly on DVD

Recommended Posts

Also...just in case anyone is interested and didn't know...you can read the unfilmed script for a Firefly episode on the net. It's a legit script written by the writer of "War Stories". Joss said at the ComicCon thing in December that it wasn't filmed because they weren't ready to go where the script was going yet...and plus...you know...cancelled.

SHOCKING NEWS!!!

Buffy/Firefly writer Tim Minear's new show Wonderfalls:

"-- Lastly, in a move that will undoubtedly surprise no one, FOX plans to broadcast its midseason drama "Wonderfalls" out of production order. The show's 11th produced installment ("Karma Chameleon") is currently scheduled to air as the series' second episode on Friday, March 19 at 9:00/8:00c."

The new Fox Ad campaign:

Fox.

We don't learn lessons.

But they are airing the pilot - the most important episode for a new show which introduces the characters, plot, scenery, etc. in the way the creator intended it to and that no company in their right mind would air last - first, right?

My respect for Tim Minear grew by leaps and bounds after Firefly, which doesn't really say that much considering that I didn't even know who he was before Firefly, but the man is still a god. But not the Conventional Monotheistic God that Joss Whedon is, he's more of a Hindu god. But a really good one...

"Why does Mal vamp?" - I love that line in the commentary for The Train Job.

This show hopped up to 2nd on my all time favorite shows list, behind 24 (which it could never beat due to viewing conditions).

There wasn't a minute during any of the episodes where I got the urge to hit the FF button. (And I have the attention span of a 3 year old) I think that the fact there was no main storyline arc was why I loved it. With no major storyline you realize that every storyline is an important one making you want to notice everything. There is no major storyline to use as a crutch, where you can tune out on anything not related to it and not miss anything important. On this, every little thing added up to something whether it be a relationship, character development, or a minor storyline arc.

As an aside, I have already told someone they would be borrowing this and watching it as she has borrowed 5 seasons of Buffy and 3 seasons of Angel from me for free, so I am using this as my marker.

Favourite Episode:

1. Out of Gas

2. Objects in Space

3. Serenity

Favourite Moment:

1. River shooting the 3 security guards. That was just badass.

2. Inara breaking down after Mal nailed Neena. I thought they were just going to keep her being strong and controlling herself, so I liked it when they showed her losing control.

3. River and Mal in Objects in Space. At the end when she comes down smiling and is finally accepted. Her smile made me melt. God I am such a woman now.

The Cast

Favourite Character:

1. Mal: Just a perfect blend of pretty much every emotional trait I can think of.

2. Kaylee: Joss has turned me into a sap so of course I am going to fall for the heart of the show.

3. Jayne: Everytime he showed up you knew you were going to get at least one moment out of him.

Favourite Villain:

1. Two by two, hands of blue- Seriously, they scraped off pieces of a teenage girls brain. You don't get more evil than that.

2. Early - "Have you ever been raped?" Don't need to say anymore than that. Wrong, just wrong.

3. The Reavers - If Jayne is afraid, you know they are bad news. But they suffer from never being seen. The only interaction with them is getting chased by their ship? I understand they couldn't blow their load and use up a bunch of villians in 15 eps., but I can't put them above no. 3 without a real involvement with them.

Favourite Hottie (aka: The Jenny Calendar Memorial Award for Achievement in The Field of "That Funny Feelin Down In My Pants".):

1. Kaylee

2. Inara

3. River (come on, the way she was balancing on those rails had to do something for you, and Summer is 21 so I feel no guilt in that)

JOCKEY BRINGIN DA CONTENT~!!

1. River shooting the 3 security guards. That was just badass.

Mmm, yeah, I think I like this too :) , the shot of her after shooting all of them is one of my all time faves. It's so badass in the almost casual, natural, nature she does it in.

2. Inara breaking down after Mal nailed Neena. I thought they were just going to keep her being strong and controlling herself, so I liked it when they showed her losing control.

This reminds me, I rewatched Our Mrs. Reynolds and the scene where she kisses Mal, realizes what happens, says "Sonnofabitch", and passes out along with the following "I hit my head" spots, and I think I may have to change and rearrange my own list.

I also love how "Sonnofabitch" is used throughout the series. It's a personal favourite of mine when capping off something.

3. River and Mal in Objects in Space. At the end when she comes down smiling and is finally accepted. Her smile made me melt. God I am such a woman now.

Yes, you are. But this is an awesome choice nonetheless. The Buffy Mummy episode was on last week and Willow in the Parka was soooo spot on in relating River in the astronaut suit. It's sooo... cuddly.

Hey, anyone interested in a fan trailer for the Firefly film I made a while back? Right HERE B-) It's in windows media format.

Seriously dude, that was fucking awesome. Made my day. Great usage of footage and you did a better job of capturing Firefly than Fox ever could. I loved the badger stuff.

Last Friday they aired Celebrity Spelling Bee where Firefly used to live.

*breaks down and cries*

That is wrong on so many levels.

vivisectvi, I used Adobe Premiere to edit it. All the clips are from Serenity P1.

Can you DL that on-line (for free)???

From Zap2It.com

FOX only got a 3.4/5 out of "The Great American Celebrity Spelling Bee."

It is just an overnigt rating, but Firefly got better ratings then that.

New poll~!

Taken from Our Mrs. Reynolds.

"Whoah. Good bible." - Mal VS "Whoah. Good myth." - Wash.

Only one can win!

My vote goes to Wash. He has this semi-glazed look in his eyes that says "Damn my marriage".

"Serenity" Soars

Posted: Wednes. March 3rd, 2004 2:40am (US-PST)

Author: Garth Franklin

Source: Variety.com

Well with "Buffy" and "Angel" gone, Joss Whedon fans will be happy to know that at last the rumours are true - his defunct western/sci-fi "Firefly" series is coming to the big screen in movie format according to Variety.

Retitled "Serenity" to differ/space it from the show, Whedon confirms he will direct and all the original cast of the TV show are set to reprise their roles when filming begins in June for a 2005 release through Universal. The story will be set six months after the show when two passengers come onboard ship and cause trouble for the crew.

Whedon is quick to point out that the film is being designed primarily for audiences who haven't seen the show - "It was important that people understand that the movie isn't the series. The movie is bigger, more epic than anything you can do in a series. You're not going to bring people into a movie if you're explaining all the time what happened before".

Here's from the firefly movie fan site:

"March 2, 2004

IT'S OFFICIAL!! The movie has been greenlighted! Our big damn heros will be returning. Chris Buchanan of President of Mutant Enemy posted a copy of the article from Variety on the OB [WARNING 7th paragraph is a bit spoilerish]:

"Daily Variety for publication 3-03-04

Whedon's 'Serenity' greenlit

U moves forward on sci-fi spinoff

By GABRIEL SNYDER

Universal Pictures has greenlit "Serenity,'' the feature film based on Joss Whedon's Fox TV series "Firefly,'' which was canceled in late 2002 after just 11 episodes.

Deals are in place for Whedon to direct and for the original cast of the TV show to reprise their roles. Pic, budgeted in the mid-eight figures, is skedded for a June start and should be ready for a 2005 release.

After Fox pulled the plug on "Firefly," Whedon struggled to continue the project, speaking with other nets and cablers about the skein, then finally turning to studios about a feature version. U acquired the feature rights from Fox last fall.

Whedon said the pic will be released under the title "Serenity" to give it some distance from the TV version. "It was important that people understand that the movie isn't the series," he said. "The movie is bigger, more epic than anything you can do in a series."

To that end, he said he went out of his way while penning the "Serenity" script to make sure that it is accessible to auds who never tuned into "Firefly."

"You're not going to bring people into a movie if you're explaining all the time what happened before," Whedon said.

Series was a space oater set 500 years in the future, tracking the journeys of the crew aboard the Serenity.

Forthcoming pic is set about six months after the TV show left off, and centers on two passengers on board the ship who attract trouble to the crew.

The studio has closed a deal with Nathan Fillion to return as Capt. Malcolm Reynolds. Other original cast members Gina Torres, Morena Baccarin, Jewel Staite, Adam Baldwin, Sean Maher and Summer Glau are also in place.

Barry Mendel is producing the pic. Chris Buchanan of Mutant Enemy, Whedon's shingle, and Mendel exec Alissa Tager are exec producing. Overseeing the project for U is vice chair Mary Parent.

Date in print: Wed., Mar. 3, 2004, Los Angeles

I can't even begin to express how happy this makes me. Now it's time for us all to start spreading the word and turn ourselves into movie marketing machines. Check back soon for movie specific guerilla marketing ideas. "

This is a bittersweet moment because they say it's not going to be a continuation of the series, which means we probably won't see all the stuff we want to see. But it has all those characters, those actors, together again so as long as they are the same, it doesn't really matter cause they fucking rule.

I hope that Wash & Book are signed on too. :)

Also, it's set six months after the series left off..? Interesting. I know that Joss said he's penned the script so that things don't have to be explained over and over, but I wonder if there'll be any slight references to the series.

Will the "two passengers who board the ship" be new characters or were they referring to River & Simon? It's kind of confusing if you consider the whole "six months after the series left off" part.

Either way. I'm hyped! :P

I assume it's Simon and River.

Also...it's odd that they didn't list Wash and Book...since really...I think those two would be the easiest to commit.
