Lord of The Curry Posted August 3, 2005 Report Posted August 3, 2005 That sucks, because dude, it's really fucking awesome. Yes, I'm rubbing it in.
Edwin MacPhisto Posted August 3, 2005 Report Posted August 3, 2005 The new trailer is way better than the first. The first tried to make this out to be some huge epic action piece, and it kinda fell flat as a result. This one is much more subtle and seems to be much more in line with the show's tone. Less "THAT GIRL IS KICKING ASS" and more "subtlesubtle." With the ridiculous marketing push this is getting from Sci-Fi now, I'm a bit more optimistic about the movie's chances of breaking even.
Mole Posted August 3, 2005 Report Posted August 3, 2005 If the movie is good, then it will do well. Word of mouth is the best marketing out there.
RavishingRickRudo Posted August 3, 2005 Author Report Posted August 3, 2005 And so is a kickass trailer. JESUS that was good. That was, like, perfect. Damn. I want to see the movie again.
SuperJerk Posted August 4, 2005 Report Posted August 4, 2005 If the movie is good, then it will do well. Word of mouth is the best marketing out there. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I don't know about that. Whenever I tried to sell people on watching "Firefly" I usually got a bizarre puzzled look and either "I don't like westerns" or "how come there's no aliens"? My favorite is when people actually try to argue the show isn't realistic because its set in the future, but they still use guns and the ships travel at sub-light speeds (as if phasers and warp drive could really exist). Apparently I need smarter friends.

Guest Brian Posted August 6, 2005 Report Posted August 6, 2005 Well, i'm about to watch Firefly for the first time in twenty-five minutes on Sci-Fi.
RavishingRickRudo Posted August 6, 2005 Author Report Posted August 6, 2005 Is it the pilot? Because, to me, "Serenity" (the pilot) is essential to enjoying the whole series.
Lord of The Curry Posted August 6, 2005 Report Posted August 6, 2005 That's not the pilot. That's the Fox pilot. That's not good.
SuperJerk Posted August 6, 2005 Report Posted August 6, 2005 I thought "The Train Job" was great, but "Serenity" works far better as an explanation of what's going on. Remember how confusing it was to watch "Out of Gas" before "Serenity" aired? Once again, fuck you, Fox.
Youth N Asia Posted August 6, 2005 Report Posted August 6, 2005 I've watched the first 3 episodes so far and love it. Wish I would have gotten around to the series sooner.
RavishingRickRudo Posted August 6, 2005 Author Report Posted August 6, 2005 Just wait until "Ariel" "Trash" "Out Of Gas" "War Stories" and "Objects in Space". You will shit yourself. The Train Job, after a few viewings, becomes pretty much the worst episode of the bunch. You can really hear the exposition in the lines and it gets kindof annoying. Brian: "He robbed from the rich and he gave to the poor, he stood up to the man and he gave him what for. Our love for him now, ain't hard to explain, the hero of canton the man they call Jayne" Just wait...
Youth N Asia Posted August 8, 2005 Report Posted August 8, 2005 Just finished Ariel...I am so pissed I didn't jump on this show sooner. This show will have high reply on my DVD player. "Out of Gas" was great. You knew everyone would make it, but still...sad stuff. I didn't like Jayne in the first couple episodes...seemed to be overdoing the "I'm such a badass" thing. Then he just got hysterical. Now I'm just bummed that 6 more episodes and a movie is all I have to look forward to.
Lord of The Curry Posted August 8, 2005 Report Posted August 8, 2005 Ya fuckin' ingrate. Imagine how it felt to be w/ this show since the (kinda) beggining and THEN learning about the movie and THEN learning that the movie was delayed. Good to see you like the show, dude. Ariel is my favorite episode.
Mole Posted August 8, 2005 Report Posted August 8, 2005 Damn, that trailer is awesome. And I loved how the movie was shot, lighting wise. It has this certain glow to it, if you will.
Hank Kingsley Posted August 8, 2005 Report Posted August 8, 2005 That trailer made me want to rewatch every episode. ...but my friend is borrowing the DVD's at the moment. Damn all.
Anakin Flair Posted August 9, 2005 Report Posted August 9, 2005 Word of mouth is the best marketing out there. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Unless you're on Fox, apparently...
Youth N Asia Posted August 10, 2005 Report Posted August 10, 2005 I hope the movie does well. I'd definatly like to see more Firefly one way or another
the pinjockey Posted August 13, 2005 Report Posted August 13, 2005 According to the latest EW, the Fall movie preview, the movie needs to do $80 million to get sequal consideration.
Youth N Asia Posted August 13, 2005 Report Posted August 13, 2005 The fanboys will need to see it over and over again, cause I don't think I see it happening.
Hank Kingsley Posted August 13, 2005 Report Posted August 13, 2005 Unless that $80 mil also includes DVD sales and international box office, yeah, I don't see a sequel.
SuperJerk Posted August 13, 2005 Report Posted August 13, 2005 The movie should be low budget enough it won't be that hard to show enough of a profit to justify a sequel. I mean, come on, there have been HOW MANY Star Trek movies? Its still hillarious to me that the average "Firefly" episode was more impressive visually than a lot of the feature films that cost over $100 million.
Youth N Asia Posted August 13, 2005 Report Posted August 13, 2005 Yeah, I was suprised how nice the special effects looked for basic tv
RavishingRickRudo Posted August 13, 2005 Author Report Posted August 13, 2005 They won some technical awards for their visual effects. I think the camera angles during the CG shots were what made it a lot more "organic", as they would pan and zoom and whatnot during the shot, so it not only fit into the shot but it also didn't just stand there.
the pinjockey Posted August 14, 2005 Report Posted August 14, 2005 It is $80 mil globally, btw. I doubt that includes DVDs.
AnonymousBroccoli Posted August 20, 2005 Report Posted August 20, 2005 Canada's Space is having a "Joss-A-Thon" for their Labour Day (September 5th) marathon this year. Included is the entire Firefly series, starting at 9AM. Here's the full schedule: http://community.spacecast.com/cgi-bin/ult...ic;f=1;t=011106
Youth N Asia Posted August 22, 2005 Report Posted August 22, 2005 Just watched the last couple episodes, now I'm bummed that there's nothing new untill the movie.
Mole Posted August 22, 2005 Report Posted August 22, 2005 I won't get to see the movie on opening night because I'm going to see the Killers. However, Oct 1st sounds next best to me.
