JHawk 0 Report post Posted January 9, 2004 SmackDown from JHawk's Beak (1/8/2004) It's two, two, two rants in one. Feedback it. I'd ask the non-wrestling feedback be kept to e-mail, but that might be futile.
AndrewTS 0 Report post Posted January 9, 2004 But the main reason Kobe got booed? HE WAS PLAYING FOR THE VISITING TEAM! Considering the circumstances (there's some rape trial he was involved in that I paid no attention to, therefore don't really have preconceptions about), that's not really too bad at all. It's not like he was pelted with bottles or anything. Although I wonder what will happen in New York. My feedback on the Tombstone Petey situation is sent to the e-mail addy. Angle asks Eddy who was the one person who helped him when he was down and out? "I gotta go there, Eddy, I gotta go there!" Eddy does the hesitant handshake, and Angle raises both their hands in triumph. Thank God for Angle's family values, says Cole. Kurt Angle, Olympic Buttinski. The point of this angle is lost on me. They wussed out on pushing Eddy when they fed him to Big Show, then not only didn't do anything with Eddy but did nothing with the title on Show. Maybe they realiized they screwed up (duh) and are trying to rebuild Eddy? If so, I don't see Eddy moving up any further until after Wrestlemania, and that's a shame. Angle-Eddy at WM would seem the logical direction, so at least there could be a very watchable match out of this situation. Last week, Hardcore Holly got disqualified after hitting The Big Show with a chair as Show tried to break Holly's neck. Josh Mathews is standing by with The Too Damn Big Show. Why a street fight? Show was busted open by the chair he holds in his hands, so he asked Paul Heyman for a street fight. He can use anything he wants to, and he's taking Hardcore out. No Hardcore matches anymore, but they put Hardcore Holly in a match that is almost the same thing. If Show had been used consistantly and was defending the title, this would be a great way to build up the Rumble match, with the challenger (ugh, Holly) going through Team Lesnar en route to challenging for the title. However, Show's even more directionless than Eddy is, so I'm not too excited. A fun match, and a good teaser as to what the Royal Rumble is like. Granted, it doesn't show how chaotic things can be with 8-10 guys in the ring, but it does two things. It establishes the odds that Chris Benoit is up against, and it gives people the thought that maybe, just maybe, Benoit can run the table and win the whole thing. If they have Test eliminate Benoit in the Rumble I'll...uh...well, I already stopped watching... Anyway, I'm really worried here. They're building up Benoit so strongly it seems like he's about to come up way short in the Rumble match. Even if he wins the Rumble, I see him not leaving Mania as champion. I miss when wrestling was predictable, and you were likely to see WWE make a new star even if it was some one sucked. JHawk--think they'll go all the way with Benoit, half-way, or just cut him off at the legs by having him get tossed in the Rumble? Also, this Holly push ends at the Rumble, right? I'm all for a John Cena push. Say what you want about his in-ring ability, but he's over, and since I always get bitched at for not realizing that because I don't like someone, there you go. I just wish they could push him and get some better matches out of the deal, but how can you do that with three minute specials? Cena being the most promising of the OVW up and comers makes me somewhat sad for the WWE, wrestling-wise. Sure, Brock and Angle are good, but far from Benoit and Eddy's level. I doubt any of the OVW guys are going to be any better than Brock and Angle, and the shorter matches and focus on backstage crap seems to foreshadow the WWE getting worse and worse wrestling-wise. Of course, this push I can at least get behind, at least. However, I think Cena may have difficulty getting over as a heel. WWE seems to prefer giving big pushes as a heel before granting a wrestler a spot on top. Sure, Brock's a unique situation, but I'm reminded how Jericho has difficulty drawing true heel heat since it's too hard to hate the guy.
