Mole Posted January 9, 2004 Report Posted January 9, 2004 Since I just got my associates, I am interested in substitute teaching. I only have classes on Tuesday and Thursday next semester, so I will have 3 days off during the week. Does anyone know if you can substitute in New York state with your associates, or do you need your bachelors?

Downhome Posted January 10, 2004 Report Posted January 10, 2004 You don't need shit to be a substitue here. I've been thinking about doing it here lately myself.
Boner Kawanger Posted January 10, 2004 Report Posted January 10, 2004 Well, one time my class didn't HAVE a teacher, so I kinda took over long enough to cover our asses in case anything happened.
Damaramu Posted January 10, 2004 Report Posted January 10, 2004 My dad was a substitue. This was in Oklahoma so I don't know how it is in other states but all he had to do was go to a class for two weeks to learn how to handle students. He doesn't really have to teach...you just follow what the teacher has set out for you.....
Gert T Posted January 10, 2004 Report Posted January 10, 2004 I am substitute teaching right now. I've done it for about 11 weeks. In Ohio I think you have to have your bachelor's, but I'm sure its different everywhere. This week I had 8th grade gym. Which would be great since I think I want to get PE certification, and I have taken 85% of the classes. Well the principal tells me that their policy is that sub's can't teach so for a whole week, 6 periods per day I have STUDY HALL in the cafeteria. Obviously that won't go over great anyway with 8th graders, but it's also the first week back from Winter Break like they'd have a lot of work to do. It was a brutal week. My resolution of drinking less was really put to the test this week!
Guest Agent of Oblivion Posted January 10, 2004 Report Posted January 10, 2004 I taught a freshman chemistry class for a couple days with absolutely no certification whatsoever. I was just in the AP chem class at the time, and the teacher liked me, and he was pretty lazy.
Mole Posted January 11, 2004 Author Report Posted January 11, 2004 I've got plenty of experience with older kids too. I've worked at a summer camp for 3 summers and was with them everyday. Even though I'm a pretty laid back guy, I can be a mean older person. I guess it's the power trip or something. I figured if I do get the job, I could do my homework while the kids do their school work. I'm taking English 312 next semester, which is a pretty tough course with tons of books to read. I never read them because I can't stand reading books that don't interest me, but if I'm forced to keep myself occupied then I think I'll read the books.

Dr. Tom Posted January 11, 2004 Report Posted January 11, 2004 Does anyone know if you can substitute in New York state with your associates, or do you need your bachelors? How'd you get an AA without learning to do research? Look it up, fer chrissakes.

Some people loved him b/c if he got a class with any of my friends they could do whatever they wanted. But if he didn't know anyone he acted like a hardass. He even cussed out a student who was giving him shit one time. But the Principal loved him and the kid was a big time troublemaker so he didn't get into trouble. Or there was the time that he thought that the class had first lunch but they had second so he finished lunch and showed up and all of the kids were like "Dude where have you been!?" Actually......it's best that he doesn't teach anymore........
Guest The Winter Of My Discontent Posted January 11, 2004 Report Posted January 11, 2004 mole teaching kids? I pity America.
Guest Agent of Oblivion Posted January 12, 2004 Report Posted January 12, 2004 I think he should teach history, specifically. Focusing on WWII.
Your Paragon of Virtue Posted January 13, 2004 Report Posted January 13, 2004 I think he should teach history, specifically. Focusing on WWII. "Well you see, Hitler was a lot like Vince Mcmahon in that they both were leaders of a large group of people, and in that they both...uhh, that's all I got."
