EdwardKnoxII Posted January 10, 2004 Report Posted January 10, 2004 http://www.eonline.com/News/Items/0,1,13250,00.html Wayne Brady Yakker Yanked? by Josh Grossberg Low ratings may have ended Wayne's world. According to the trades, Disney-owned syndicator Buena Vista Television has decided to cancel The Wayne Brady Show, the daytime chatfest emceed by stand-up comic Wayne Brady, who shot to fame trading zingers on ABC's Whose Line Is It Anyway?. A publicist for the show denies the report, stressing the show has not been canceled, it just hasn't been renewed yet. Despite improvising its way to two Emmys for Best Talk Show Host and Best Talk Show earlier this year, industry speculation that the hour-long Wayne was on the outs had been increasing over the last few months ever since Buena Vista gave the greenlight to a new yakker hosted by former Who's the Boss star Tony Danza. In its second season, The Wayne Brady Show reached a new low in viewers, averaging a 1.0 rating, pretty much a drop in the bucket compared to the queen-sized 6.8 rating Oprah Winfrey routinely draws. Reps for Buena Vista were unavailable for comment. But Wayne will continue in production until May and it's expected to air new original episodes through May sweeps. After which, it's expected to be replaced by Danza's show. That's not the only syndicated strip on the chopping block. At the same time Brady was reportedly getting pink-slipped, Universal Domestic Television halted production on Crossing Over with John Edwards after its nationally-syndicated séance failed to connect with viewers in its third season and channel ratings above a weak 1.2. Meanwhile on the network side, CBS' cop drama The Handler starring Emmy winner Joe Pantoliano suddenly found itself on the receiving end of a raw deal after the Eye network decided to scale back its renewal of the series from a full-season 22-episode order to just 15 segments. While CBS execs were mum on The Handler's future, including whether or not it will air during February sweeps, according to Variety the show remains in the network's Friday night lineup. But for how long is the big question. While The Handler scored strong ratings in its debut last fall, producers saw viewership pinched after NBC decided to air John Wells' popular drama, Third Watch, in the same 10 p.m. Friday timeslot. A possible candidate CBS execs are eyeing to take over The Handler is Universal Television's new legal drama Century City, starring Hector Elizondo.
BUTT Posted January 10, 2004 Report Posted January 10, 2004 Wayne is a pretty talented guy, but I can understand if his show isn't getting good ratings, it's going to get cancelled. However, I don't think Tony Danza is the right guy to replace him. I like him, but these "celebrity" talk shows rarely get good ratings. I mean, if Martin Short couldn't get ratings, I don't see how Tony Danza could.
King Kamala Posted January 10, 2004 Report Posted January 10, 2004 Tony Danza....ugh. Wayne Brady's is way too much of a nice guy on his talk show and sings to god damn much but Tony Danza as his replacement? Ugh. Did anyone see Tony Danza's appearence on the People's Choice Awards a year or two ago when he rapped and than proceeded to tap dance? It's probably a good thing if you don't.
Guest The Winter Of My Discontent Posted January 10, 2004 Report Posted January 10, 2004 Maybe if Wayne Brady's most famous guest was Patrick Swayze...
Guest Krazy Karter Posted January 10, 2004 Report Posted January 10, 2004 Wait wait wait. Didn't Wayne Brady have a short-lived variety show called "The Wayne Brady Show" on ABC after Whose Line got hot a few years back?
RavishingRickRudo Posted January 10, 2004 Report Posted January 10, 2004 Maybe Brady and Edwards should do a show together. *Edwards is talking to a crying mother lamenting about her dead son* "He's here, he's in this room, he says something about a red hat... a hat... something red... anything about a red hat? Red? Hat?" "Yes, yes, my son wore a hat... once... yes, and he had a red sweater - he loved that sweater." "That's what I'm getting, definitely... he's here, and he wants to say..." *Wayne Brady comes out in a Red Hat, acting like James Brown* "And am he-ah, on the flo-ah, with a red hat-ah, sex machine!" *Mother faints* .... or maybe a buddy cop show?
BUTT Posted January 10, 2004 Report Posted January 10, 2004 Wait wait wait. Didn't Wayne Brady have a short-lived variety show called "The Wayne Brady Show" on ABC after Whose Line got hot a few years back? Yes indeed he did.
Yuna_Firerose Posted January 10, 2004 Report Posted January 10, 2004 Eh...no skin off my back. I only saw one of his shows, of course, it was the one where he had Alan as a guest. It was sorta entertaining, mostly due to Alan, of course.
MarvinisaLunatic Posted January 10, 2004 Report Posted January 10, 2004 Why does Tony Danza get a talk show. *Remembers that ALF is getting a talk show* Who will be the next washed up 80's sitcom star to get a talk show???
King Kamala Posted January 10, 2004 Report Posted January 10, 2004 I hope it's Correy Feldman or even better, Correy Haim! It's kind of sad I saw every episode of the Surreal Life and the thing is I was probably the only one.

Mole Posted January 10, 2004 Report Posted January 10, 2004 When I think of daytime talk shows, I think of women not men.
King Kamala Posted January 11, 2004 Report Posted January 11, 2004 You do know that they're coming out with a Surreal Life 2? Yeah, which is surprising since Surreal Life was met with great apathy and was slammed by everyone I know who watched it. Which means I'll be tuning in for the premiere.
