ROH/JAPW:    Ring of Honor and Jersey All Pro Wrestling promoted a joint event at the Woodbridge Armory in Woodbridge, New Jersey on Friday 1/9. The show was initially conceived to create competition for the then-scheduled debut fof Major League Wrestling in Philadelphia, but with MLW pulling out and running Florida, it instead became an event with a series of inter-promotional style bouts. Full results of the show saw.

*The Dirty Rotten Scoundrels defeated Dunn and Marcos in 8:46.

*Ruckus pinned Derek Wylde in 5:55.

*In an "Incredible Partners" Tag, The Carnage Crew's Tony Devito and The Backseat Boys' Trent Acid defeated Backseats' Johnny Kashmere and Crew's HC Loc in 12:46. Backseats acted like they didn't want to hurt each other while Crew were having fun beating the hell out of each other. Lots of silliness followed by some good spots and brawling. A really fun match.

*In a Scramble Match, the JAPW team of Jay Lethal(Hydro), Azriel, and Insane Dragon (Izzy) defeated the Special K contingent of Deranged & Dixie & Lit in 9:33. The Special K group couldn't understand why their usual partners were wrestling them. They all had a big rave after the match.

*Shane Douglas pinned Justin Credible in 11:20 with the worst belly-to-belly suplex in the history of wrestling. Douglas did his usual mic work, which came off really dated as he talked about ECW and Vince McMahon. Credible sliced his palm upon badly while being whipped into a guard rail and taped it up to continue wrestling. He went to the hospital for medical treatment after the bout. They brawled into the crowd at one point. The crowd chanted "Don't come back" at Douglas, who was in better shape then he has been in. Special K attacked Credible and the Carnage Crew made the save, setting the stage for K vs Crew in Scramble Cage II on 3/13 in Elizabeth, New Jersey.

*April Hunter pinned Sumie Sakai in 8:58 with a rolling neckbreaker in a good match.

*ROH champion Samoa Joe pinned Balls Mahoney in 16:21 of a very good back and forth match.

*JAPW champion Danny Maff defeated Slyk Wagner Brown via DQ in 19:30 when Brown had Maff pinned after a burning hammer but EC Negro of the Dirty Rotten Scoundrelz told the referee that Wagner had used the JAPW championship belt. Horrible finish. Both Brown and Maff looked good here but the booking was really bad (Why would ref Hansen believe Negro after he had already tossed DRS out of the building once and they still interfered?) and there were some mistimed false finishes that made time stand still.

*Christopher Daniels won a Four-Way over CM Punk, AJ Styles, and John Walters. Styles hit Walters with a Styles Clash, but was hit by a Daniels double springboard moonsault for the pin in 25:25. Lots of great innovative stuff here.

This show sounds like a pretty fun show with an excellent main event. I am gald too see Walters finally getting his due. He is pretty fucking awesome.

MLW from Tabu Night Club in Orlando FL: Doors open to the show at 6pm. About 6:50pm, it's announced the "Meet and Greet" would take place in the back corner of Tabu, consisting of Homicide and another wrestler who I didn't recognize. He looked Samoan, but I could be wrong. It wasn't Samu though... and looked to thin to be Mana.

Anyways, show starts about 7:20pm. Stephen DeAngelis comes out accompanied by the two ring girls, SoCal Val and Jennifer (dressed in a white shirt and Hooters pants). DeAngelis introduces co-commentators, Gargiola and Julius Smokes. They sit at a table near the ring, and the action begins.

Opening match - Bobby Quance and Puma (wearing a mask) vs. Stampede Bulldogs. Very good match, lots of chants of "Pikachu" towards Puma. Bulldogs win the match. After the match, chants of "Bulldogs!" and when they play it up, chants of "USA" begin.

Winners: Stampede Bulldogs

Shane Twins vs. Richard J. Criado and "Fabulous Texan" Chavert? Sorry, didn't catch the name. Twins had a manager, didn't catch his name either. Shane Twins played the monster heels here... appropriately, as they're huge in person. Richard Criado came out in a "tear-away suit"... just hilarious. Chavert gets the pin at the end. Shanes leave... Criado and Chavert fight over who won the match, and brawl to the back.

Winners: Criado and Chavert?

Matt Martel (with Nurse Stephey? I think) vs. Friedman vs. Chasyn Rance. Friedman played monster face here. Martel came out to disco music, couldn't stop dancing through the match. Typically would dance and let Friedman and Rance go. Extremely short match, with Rance going over in the end after the Nurse girl hits Friedman in the head with a shoe and Rance schoolboyed him for the win. I'm pretty sure this was the match that Steve Corino replaced Julius Smokes doing commentary.

Winner: Chasyn Rance

Next up - match of the night (at least for me). Dark Fuego / Pete Wilson vs. Roderick Strong (no Nosawa tonight) and M Dogg 20. M Dogg is announced by both M Dogg 20 and his real name. Strong/Dogg come out to the theme music for Viva La Bam. Anyways, AMAZING match. Fuego Guerrero is a sight to be seen. The guy is EXTREMELY agile... doing a standing flip and lands back on his feet. Wilson starts in the ring, match extremely slow. Building up to Guerrero finally getting the tag and going to town. Dogg's nose was busted open. Roderick Strong was extremely impresive (bring this guy back!) with tons of flips over his shoulders and landing on his knee. Sorry, don't know the names for all the moves. Anyways, HUGE highspot included throwing Wilson and Fuego into the audience... after which, the audience proceeded to drop them on the ground. Wilson and Fuego were also thrown into the wall. Finally Wilson/Fuego get the upper hand, stun their opponents, then run up the stairs and do a double backflip off the stairs down onto the two guys below. Probably a 15 foot drop. Finally action returns to the ring, with Fuego and Wilson going over with double 450 splashes. AWESOME match.

Winners: Pete Wilson and Fuego Guerrero

SoCal Val and DeAngelis get in the ring and throw out 3 MLW "vintage logo" shirts, which is their regular black shirt before the new logo was released.

Chris Hero vs. Chad Collyer in what was by FAR the worst match of the night. Horrible. They kept reversing each others holds until Hero won. Didn't help that it went after the last match... but this match never clicked, and then it was over. Boring. Sorry, I hear great things about both guys and look forward to seeing them again, but this sucked.

Winner: Chris Hero

Dutt vs. Evans in another match that didn't click. No belt with Dutt. Evans didn't get any offense in the entire match, except one flip to the outside, where he hit his head HARD on the barricade, so I think they ended the match early. Dutt looked frustrated that Evans wasn't giving him much to work with. Hart doing commentary. Dutt finally wins the match, then Hart runs in the ring and Evans and Hart beat him down.

Winner: Sonjay Dutt

Havana Pitbulls vs. Los Maximos. I noticed Maximos had "6P4" on their back... don't know what that means. Anyways, great match. Pitbulls fight out of a Spanish Fly and hit a double team move for the win.

Winners: Havana Pitbulls

SoCal Val throws a few more shirts to the crowd.

Bryan Danielson vs. Teddy Hart. Danielson comes out acting like a total heel, yelling at the fans, and then plays face in the match. Teddy Hart tears his pants a little during the match, so Danielson rips the pants completely off and Hart had to finish the match in his boxers. Hart wins. After the match, Hart goes to the top rope and does a moonsault, landing on his feet. Goes to another corner, does another moonsault. Danielson dares him to do one more, so Hart finally does... causing Danielson to jump him and the two completely BRAWL before Danielson throws him through the curtains back into the lockerroom. Very good match.

Winner: Teddy Hart

Mike Modest vs. Jerry Lynn. Modest comes out to no music, and cuts a promo saying that he doesn't need music because he's not Garth Brooks. He says that he doesn't need high-flying "flippity-flop" to get himself over. Hilarious because he kept teasing during the match that he was going for "flippity-flop" during the match, but wouldn't do it. Flippity-flip = Money! Anyways, Homicide interferes, costing Jerry Lynn the match and allowing Modest to go over. During the match, Modest completely bullied DeAngelis and the two ring girls.

Winner: Mike Modest

Next up is the lethal lottery. Teams are Raven and Vampiro vs. Sabu (no Alfonso) and Corino. Corino cuts a promo, adding the stipulation that Raven cannot become #1 Contender even if he wins the match. He had talked to Bauer and declared this because Raven always made him feel inferior in the past. "Quote the king of old school, nevermore!" Raven says he just wants the pleasure of humiliating Corino by beating him up, then letting Vampiro get the pin. Vamprio responds by saying "Go F*%k yourself". Corino kept trying to lay down for Raven, but Raven wouldn't pin him. Vampiro tried to steal the pin, but it didn't work. Sabu puts Raven and Corino through a table. Finally Raven has Corino for the pin, and tells Vamp to pin him. Vamp puts the Evenflow on Raven, then puts him over Corino for Raven to pin Corino and win the match. Afterwards, Vampiro cuts a promo, sayikng that he doesn't care about the belt, he cares about beating up Raven. Actually says that he doesn't care about TNA, that MLW is where it's all at! Wants to know if Raven has balls under his skirt, and leaves.

Winner: Raven

Homicide vs. Low Ki. Homicide gets the win after a GRUELING match. After the match, Jerry Lynn comes out and attacks Homicide. Gary Hart (the mystery man behind the scenes, older guy accompanied by a guy in a suit) comes out and demands violence, wanting Homicide to destroy Jerry Lynn. Low Ki helps him out. Hart accidently calls him "Ki Low", which results in the fans getting all over Hart. Anyways, they were about to leave and there was a pretty boy fan in the audience screaming at them, so Hart demanded violence and Homicide and Low Ki beat the crap out of the fan. Audience goes NUTS at this point. Finally Court Bauer comes out and says they've gone too far and threatens big fines for their actions, so they beat up Bauer. Homicide hits Bauer in the face with a broom, then sweeps crap on him. Hart declares that Funk's career is over tomorrow night. They leave, and Samu and PJ Friedman help the bleeding Bauer back to the locker room.

Winner: Homicide

Credit to MikeWG for these results and thoughts. Alan J. Wojcik then says "Criado's partner was Chad Hart, Gary's son. The Shane Brothers are managed by Ron Niemi. Matt Martel was managed by Persephone. Roderick Strong is due to break out this year. I liked Hero/Collyer, maybe it was me. Modest turned Lynn face without any effort. Homicide/Ki was awesome  in person. Yes that was Gary Hart, former WCCW manager and the man who rep'd Funk in WCW during the famous I Quit match with Ric Flair."

Show sounds pretty good I guess. Sounds like it had alot of high flying. Bauers booking is stupid though. He puts Hero and Collyer above the spottiest match on the card. Also Gary freaking Hart. This whole Homicide Ki angle sounds cool. Hopefully they will the tag titles soon if they do team up. Also Raven vs Vampiro angle tonight was really well. Or so it sounds. I like it alot. Hopefully this new MLW will go somewhere.

Reports have the attendence for the MLW show at about 200. I saw an overhead picture of the show that is floating around and that number looks to be pretty accurate. It's a little disheartening that someone like Court Bauer, who has so much money to invest in starting a wrestling promotion, is seemingly wasting it. He is spending what has to be a ton of money on flying guys in, is paying to have his television show on the Sunshine network, and for a pretty nice set up (ring, announcer's area, ect.) On the flip side, he is just getting revenue from the small live gate and the minimal tape sales they do. If he invested even half of the money he has in the right areas of a promotion, MLW could really get somewhere. As it is, he is spending a large chunk of money and getting close to nothing in return. Eventually the well is going to dry out if he doesn't find someway to make money. He seems to think that bringing in the top wrestlers and getting TV will automatically bring in money despite the fact that he doesn't seem to have any business plan at all. How are you going to get your core fans to buy tapes when they can see the matches for free on television (and when your video production is pretty shoddy.)

The MLW show itself looks alright. I still get the feeling when I read the results of their shows that they could be doing so much more with the talent they have. Court Bauer's booking leaves a lot to be desired. I am looking forward to seeing the Danielson/Teddy Hart match as any match involving Danielson and a competent opponent is "must see" for me these days. All other reports I have seen on the show were nearly as harsh on the Collyer/Hero match (nor a spositive on the M-Dogg match). Something tells me it just wasn't that guy's cup of the tea.

ROH show looks decent. The ROH title match was the most intriquing to me before the show even happened and from the sounds of things, it was pretty decent. Legit heavyweight matches are rare in the indies so they are always interesting to see when they do happen. Plus, Joe hasn't had one bad match as champion so it'll be cool to see what he does with Balls (who always works hard to his credit). Four way sounds fun too.

Interesting show look forward to seeing this stuff on TV,

Glad to see Bobby Quance really didn't join the Navy afterall! and I still find it hard to believe that a Chris Hero match would be the worst on the show.
