I keep hearing about how Evan (Kutcher) is unlikable or something like that. I haven't seen the movie, so the comparison might be off, but Being John Malkovich was a great movie, and Craig (Cusack) wasn't exactly the greatest guy in the world.

When he goes back through time and makes those changes occur...does he return to the same place he was in the present? I saw in the trailer that he goes back and slams his hands on two nails...then has scars when he is older...but is he back in the SAME PLACE?

****Spoilers Below****

He uses that to show his religious cell-mate that he's telling the truth about what he can do with his blackouts. He slams his hands in his younger days and appears with "Stigmata" in the future. From what I can see, nothing really changed significantly. All the messed up stuff still happened, it 's just he had scars on his hands

Wouldn't his teacher though have recommended counciling to his mother for this?

Also why does he go to a small part of time and then come back? I'd just go back and relive my entire life. Start over from scratch. I've always wondered what my life would be like if I could go back with all the knowledge I have now and use it......well actually I'd be a straight A student with tons of money and a hot girlfriend. Oh and I'd be going to an Ivy League school. That would be awesome.

I think that would have ruined the movie. It's supposed to be about how the little things in life can cause big problems. That's why he can only go back to certain times and change one thing. But you do see glimpses of how his life turns out by changing things.

Hey.. some movie thoughts..

I thought it was quite violent and messed up.

But, it was dramatic too.. maybe just for some of the sudden shock.

I read one good review about all this.. which claimed that it was all pretty much delusions of a person who was dying, that he was making up the stuff before it, and the stuff at the end. Which doesn't really explain the home video part.

Since this movie's been out for so long.. these aren't really spoilers.. but.. i'll be courteous..

#1 - Ashton is named Even Treborn. Event-Reborn.

Original World

Even - disturbed

Kayleigh - sexually abused by her father

Tommy - evil evil bastard

Lenny - injured around the time of the Blockbuster

Thumper - always getting laid

then.. there's subtle changes..

Even's rant caused the father to not show any love or affection for Kayleigh, while it caused him to be more abusive/strict to Tommy. Therefore causing him to be bitter and crazy. Even turns into a frat boy and he has sex with Amy Smart. Even also kills Tommy, sending him to prison. Leading to the ultimately pointless stigmata scene (where nothing else changed, although something could have)

Also in this time, I think some of the Blockbuster is addressed.

Basically.. when I think about it.. this can tie in together and make sense.

Lenny makes model airplanes, then when they change the dog scene, he kills Tommy, sending him to an asylum, then they go back to stop the bomb, and he's now in love with Kayleigh since Even has no arms.

Tommy is an evil bastard, except after the bomb, where he saves two lives and becomes a Christian.

The father is pretty much still fucked in the head.

Kayleigh in the third scenario, as the whore, is just depressing to encounter. But, Even did tell about all those changes in history, right? since he brought up the video-tape and the bomb and whatever.

I think i'm messing up the order here.. the whore part was before the bomb part.

Then, we get to what might be the cause of all this.. the blockbuster and Kayleigh. Which means he would have dreamt this all up to provide a better story for himself.

Which means that he would have dreamt up the scene where he scares her away for good. To try and stop everything by sacificing his own love. Kayleigh would then go on to live with her mom and brother, therefore never being abused, therefore living a happier live. Or, so Even dreams..

Although.. if he kills Kayleigh, he never goes to see his dad, therefore his dad would have been alive or lived longer, instead of being beaten to death in that room. But, his dad also told him he couldn't mess with history, which means that would somehow happen, or history would have been messed with.

And what was the original thing that Even said that enraged Jason so much? that's a mystery. He's still murderous in the second scenario.

I might have to see this again to really grasp it all.. but Even probably died in that room, from the effects of his disorder.. providing his ending to the tale.

But.. this just a theory. Of course.

I just saw the movie last night. I thought it was great. A lot of people are shitting on the movie because it has Ashton in it, but I thought he did fine. The concept was really cool. I wasn't really freaked out personally, but my friends were. Something about fucked up little kids really freaked out my friend's girlfriend.

The only part I didn't like in the movie was when the dog was killed. Sick, sadistic, fucked-up little kids are fine... but don't kill a damn dog.

I liked the ending as well

I agree with that. Well, except the dog killing part. I mean, it's part of the story. Why not do it?

I found that this movie, if you can get past knowing that Ashton Kutcher is a moron, is pretty good in the end.

I believe he said what they showed him saying originally. Some of the Blackouts were because of Evan going back in time and trying to change things. The picture one was an example of this. He draws the picture of him with the knife killing the 2 prisoners, referencing the 1st alteration when he was in Jail. Then later on (The stigmata part) we see why he drew it.

The scene in the kitchen was his future self trying to find something to destroy the block buster, hence why he grabbed the knife in it. But his past self doesn't remember these little visits from his future self.

So basically, these little things were Evan when had the capabilities to control it, but at the time, his younger self didn't have those capabilities, hence the blackouts and memory loss.

Did I miss the incest.. or was it just some overreaction?

I know it was with evil brother Tommy and Kayleigh.

But.. the future Even did stuff that effected the original Even before he did stuff?

that's interesting..

Exactly. Emphasis on the 'time travelling' bit, as well.

Oh, and say it with me - "EVAN" - sorry, I had to put that in there...

What incest between Tommy and Kayleigh? It was the father who was the perv, not the brother. Tommy was just a psycho lil' fucker.

Hey.. I read some stuff giving the name as Even Treborn. Which is Event Reborn, which would be fitting for this movie. But, the credits did say Evan

Touche! ;)

I think there was something that may have been suggested. I heard mention of it in some reviews too. Maybe it was in the second-part where Evan eventually kills Tommy.

And.. Jesse James (who plays Tommy at 13) is a little psycho.

It's SLIGHTLY hinted at in a few scenes, but never outright "said."

SPOILER - when Tommy confronts the two of them in the second alternate reality, after Evan's car is totaled. And in the beginning when they do "the movie" and Tommy wants to star in it. - SPOILER

I was surprised they used such a small kid to play Tommy. Evan was three times his size, so I don't really see why he didn't kick the crap out of him in the first place. ;)

During that reality, wasn't his reasoning for wanting Evan dead because he "stole the one person who didn't think I was a total piece of shit." I'm pretty sure had their been some type of incestuous encounter/attraction on Tommy's part that Kayleigh would have most definitely felt he was a piece of shit.

LMAO, I just check up the listing on IMDB, and apparently the kid who played Tommy at 13 was the same kid who played "Ryan" in the Angel episode "I've Got You Under My Skin" - where the kid is possessed by a demon.

I didn't mean it actually happened. I meant it's hinted that he wants or wanted it to happen. He says something to her, and I can't remember exactly what, that hints he'd want to fuck her too or something like that...

I just downloaded this film as I hadn't heard about it until the last couple of days as they've started running ads for it over here in the UK and i remebered there was already a thread about it from a while ago.

The film was really really good, I also felt that Ashton was very good in the role and i didn't have a problem with believing him in the role. I thought they were going to do the corny ending of Kayleigh and Evan getting together in the future scenario so glad they didn't.
