Bill Simmons Super Blog

Recommended Posts

Bill Simmons, ESPN's Sportsguy and quite possibly the greatest sports columnist I've ever read has been sent back to the Superbowl. Coincidentally or not, he's been sent both years the Patriots have made it to the Superbowl. He has carte blanche this week, and he's doing a Superblog that is being updated about 3 times a day on ESPN.com's Page 2. So far he has talked about the NFL experience, how everyone in New Orleans hates him because of the things he said about the city in 2002, sitting on the plane in first class with Jaclyn Smith (and a subsequent listing of all time hot babes), and why every NFL owner should play blackjack with a prospective coach before hiring him.

I really think if you haven't read Simmons, you should check it out and for those who do read and might not have heard of it, you did now.

While I agree with a lot of what TSG says, I have to say that I disagree with his placement of Jennifer Aniston on his all time hotties list. She was good, never more than that, and was downright unattractive at times (e.g. while starring in the Leprechaun). It detracts from his list to have her included. It seemed like he needed a "contemporary" or current star to put on the list so he added her. Other than that, it was a good read.

Isn't it more of a coincidence that he's here this year though? Since Jimmy Kimmel is broadcasting from Houston and he writes for the show, he kinda has to be there, right?

He's kind of a hypocrite, though, since he hates the Yankees but that's what he wants the Patriots to be:

I want a revolving door of veterans coming to New England, all searching for their first ring.

He hates them but he respects the history.

Hell, I hate the Yankees but I respect the history.

And maybe he meant more in a Dallas Cowboys sense since this is...you know, football.

How do people from outside of New England feel about the Sports Guy? I don't mind reading his works, but kind of figured that people from outside of Boston or New England would hate how biased he is to this area. When I was in Colorado and had to read Woody Paige's biased mumbling's, it used to piss me off to no end. I can't imagine taking that style to a national level.

I am a big fan of his. I love the way he will pull ridiculous references out of nowhere (that is what my friends and I do) and I like the way he seems to be an actual fan of his team. He knows his stuff, so his fandom doesn't get in the way too much. Plus it is an entertaining read, most importantly.

By the way, his calling the Houston weather "miserable" seems exaggerated, but it was true. We had great weather on Monday, and then it was overcast all the way until Sunday, when it was perfect weather. And then it started raining around midnight.

Oh, and I recommend that link he has to the recruiting stories of that Miami high school kid. Some good unintentional humour there.
