King Cucaracha 0 Report post Posted January 28, 2004 Generic backstory, I know. But then again…backstories are forgotten once the diary gets going anyway… TNA’s 2004 Revival Recently, despite being the number two promotion in America, things have been rough on NWA:TNA. The New Year brought what was best described as ‘more of the same, without the good’. Johnny Fairplay, the Insane Clown Posse, Brian Urlacher…all planned on being brought in. There was Sting charging over the odds prices for sporadic appearances. Battle struggles which didn’t make sense. Stars being able to charge subordinate appearance fees. The state of TNA could certainly have been better. Which was why, much like Major League Wrestling did the month before hand, NWA:TNA owner Jerry Jarrett knew he had to change things around. Dutch Mantell as head booker hadn’t worked out, and didn’t look like doing so in the near future. Sure, other than TNA there was no competition for 2nd spot. But if Jerry Jarrett ever wanted to challenge for the number one spot, something had to be done. So, Jerry Jarrett had decided now was the time to call a crisis meeting. Of course, he didn’t call it a crisis meeting. He didn’t want anyone to think TNA was in crisis mode. But, in private he knew that the situation needed sorting…and fast. He and son Jeff, along with current head writer Glenn Stones, secondary writer Bill Banks, some guy who was taking notes…as always happens in meetings. I wasn’t there. Still stuck in England, I sat waiting for another flight to be arranged to Nashville. British airports suck. That has to be clarified right now, because it nearly cost me the position with TNA… Anyway…the meeting…as the guy wrote down. If he missed anything, or anything was struck from the record then I don’t know about it. Jerry- Thank you all for coming. I…take it you know why we’re here. To make the NWA:TNA the next global promotion…to challenge the WWE. To avoid falling back from the WWE. We need a strategy, because it’s obvious our current one is not working. Fans are gradually getting tired of the ‘same old, same old’. Now, I’ve looked at our new head booker’s plans and I must say I’m optimistic that by the end of this year…before this year is over…we will be challenging the WWE. I am confident. Now a lot of decisions he’s made may be a little…well…’unpopular’. But this is something we have to do. Gentlemen, you all have a copy of the details in front of you. If you care to read through them…I’ll…well…explain to you about the new head booker, seeing as he’s not here himself to do it. A number of the boys recommended him after working independent shows in the U.K. They said he had a passion for the business…ambition…and knew talent when he saw it. I got in touch, and liked what I saw. Dutch wasn’t working out. The fans knew that. So…we had to change. Jeff stands up. Jeff- Wait a sec dad. He wants to get rid of Glenn? Look at this list…Konnan, Piper, Sting, Douglas…he’s getting’ rid of our top stars! Jerry- Our most expensive stars. Let’s face it Jeff…Sting is trying to play us for money right now till Vinnie comes calling again. And the guys he’s wanting to get rid off are not the type of people to guide TNA into the future. If you look underneath, there’s a long list of hirings too. We can’t always get our own way Jeff. I want to bring ‘The King’ in, but now’s not the time. We have to think of the company. Anyway…the weekly PPV’s are out. Saturday 7th we’ll have a big PPV…big comeback for TNA. There on, we’ll be running Xplosion on Saturdays…hopefully we can get that promoted to primetime soon, get away from competition with Velocity. Jeff- So… Jerry- Son, it’s all on the papers. The firings have been taken care of. The WWE has apparently gone on a cost cutting spree. About 20 guys have been released or fired, and you’ll see a couple on that list. We could have signed more, but like the new booker said…and quite rightly…we won’t get to the top by being ‘WWE lyte’. Anyway…now the weekly PPV’s are out of the way, we can move away from Nashville more often. Xplosion and the PPV’s will still be held in the Asylum for now. But we will be promoting 4 house shows a week now, with those under new written contracts, plus the AMW and Vaughn…and you son. Stones- I see he’s taken into account my gimmick recommendations… Jerry- Yes…some of them. Mitchell, Slash and Sinn will stay the same under his orders. He’s forming Mitchell’s boys together to re-form the New Church Disciples. Watts will remain an authority figure for a while…something is planned though. Skipper, Legend and Shane are being dealt with. Stones- And Raven…will be feuding with Abyss? Jerry- Yes…it’s part of Abyss’ impending push. Now…we’ll talk again when the new head booker arrives in the country…which will probably be on the 4th to organize for certain the “Living For Today” card…gentlemen, thank you for your time. Presumably everyone left after that. Again…I wasn’t there. I would turn up before “Living For Today” luckily. Unfortunately, it was on Thursday night. So the card was very hurriedly thrown together. However, it looked decent enough to me. The four team tag looked slightly worrying…other than that, I was happy. Well…‘contented.’ Time to get the card out onto the internet…
King Cucaracha 0 Report post Posted January 28, 2004 February 5th TNA Announces First Monthly PPV show, “Living For Today” this Saturday![/u] NWA:TNA begins it’s ‘Revolution’ with a special Saturday night Pay Per View show on February 7th. Entitled “Living For Today”, the card has been organised and re-organised in the past week…but finally the card has been sorted, and this comes from TNA’s site… Be sure to tune into a pre-PPV edition of Xplosion if you can, live on Urban America. We’ll be running down all the happenings of what has been called the ‘Revolution’ of NWA:TNA…the hirings, the firings…the title situations…and of course, the “Living For Today” card itself. Plus, the main event will see a special one on one match. New signing British hot prospect Burchill will be in singles action, taking on the former X-Division Champion Michael Shane. On the show itself…some huge matches have been booked… A special six man tag team match will see TNA Management’s team of Red Shirt Security (Legend and Kevin Northcutt) and Kid Kash taking on Chris Vaughn, and fresh from WWE releases…Spanky and Paul London. It’ll be most interesting to see this dynamic duo debut in the NWA:TNA, and stake a claim at the NWA:TNA Tag Team Titles in the near future. It’ll also be interesting to see Chris Vaughn going up against two rivals of recent months, they being the Red Shirts. Speaking of debuts, Toryumon’s K-Ness has signed a working agreement with NWA:TNA…an agreement which included a clause allowing match with an X-Divisioner of his choice upon his debut. The choice…The Amazing Red. This one will certainly be one for the X-Division fans. If you like high flying, high impact, lucha libre or Japanese wrestling…this will be for you. Ron Killings, the surviving member of 3 Live Kru, will go one on one with Sonny Saiki. Ekmo will not be in the building…which should mean a one on one match between the former NWA Champion and the former X-Division Champion. A hard fought battle is promised here, as both men look to re-establish their singles careers. The NWA Tag Team Titles have been vacated, by way of 3 Live Kru's recent exit from the company...so TNA will present a four team elimination match to crown new champions. Another team that the WWE has let through their grip will debut in this one…Akio and Sakoda, the ‘Kyo Dai’. Against them will be multiple time former champions The America’s Most Wanted, Slash and Sinn of The New Church Disciples…and Matt Cappotelli and John Hennigan, better known as the winners of WWE Tough Enough 3. An intriguing mix of youth and experience clashing in a melee for the gold…all four teams will no doubt pull out all the stops to get the gold. Finally, the NWA World Title will be on the line in a UBER-HUGE main event. Jeff Jarrett. Raven. A.J Styles. D’Lo Brown. Four men, one belt. This promises to be a memorable encounter between four of the recent top contenders to the gold. The crafty, cowardly Jeff Jarrett was reportedly booked into this corner by Erik Watts…much to the dismay of Jarrett’s ‘buddy’ Don Callis. The question now is whever Jarrett can survive the three challengers vying for his gold. You can bet Jarrett will take any shortcuts, and try to retain his gold by any means necessary. The Revolution has begun, but will the revolters overthrow the champ? Will the new leaders of the TNA revolution rise above the mainstays, and establish themselves in the NWA:TNA? Find out Saturday night…LIVE from the TNA Asylum…where the TNA roster will be Living For Today!
King Cucaracha 0 Report post Posted January 28, 2004 ‘Xplosion Recap’ Goldylocks and Scott Hudson were around for the hour preview show, running down the card at the beginning of the show. Chris Sabin arrived in the arena, but why? We were reminded that Burchill v Michael Shane was coming up, before Hudson spoke about the releases of such stars as Konnan, BG James and Sting. A build-up for the debut of K-Ness played. We were reminded that next week Xplosion will be live and will feature the TNA debut of AAA legend The Latin Lover…Raven in singles action…and the main event…Chris Sabin teaming up with Akio and Sakoda to face the team of Paul London and America’s Most Wanted. All that and more next week…but, for now… Xplosion Main Event Burchill vs Michael Shane The former X-Division Champion Michael Shane was definitely at a size disadvantage in this one, against one of the most agile big men in the business. Burchill not onlt over powered Shane, but also matched him for speed every step of the way. The crowd were a little indifferent to Burchill at first, but some of his moves did pull them in…including an AWESOME plancha. Shane used some slightly unfair tactics to take the advantage, until walking into a T-bone Suplex. That looked to be the beginning of the end, as Burchill rallied…but took his time setting up for a Standing Star Press, allowing Shane to move. Shane quickly capitalised with a sneaky lowblow, and a roll-up to get a cheap pinfall victory. Winner: Michael Shane by pinfall in 5:49 * (53, 32, 74) Road Agent Notes: Michael Shane debuted his new gimmick (Cocky), it got a positive response. NWA:TNA LIVING FOR TODAY 7th February 2004 Live on PPV from the TNA Asylum, in Nashville Tennesee Commentators: ‘The Professor’ Mike Tenay and ‘TNA Chief Executive’ Don Callis The opening pyro hits, and the crowd are suitably pumped for the ‘new era’ of NWA:TNA. Mike Tenay is at ringside…and should be joined by Don Callis, but he’s already in the ring to open the show. Callis- Ladies…gentlemen…and those of you from Nashville. The crowd boo, as Callis smiles. Callis- Welcome to NWA:TNA…Living For Today. Tonight…LIVE on Pay Per View, I Don Callis, Chief Executive of NWA:TNA affairs will present a night of fantastic action. Forget 'Erik Watts'...his ass isn't here tonight. This is the Don Callis show tonight. And tonight, I will present a night of memorable action. And, I’m going to present if from down…there. Callis points to the announce position, waving sarcastically over at Tenay. Callis- Don’t worry Mike…I know you’re at a loose end, but I'll be over to carry you in a second. First...I want to address tonight's main event. Jeff Jarrett, this company's chosen champion, has been FORCED to defend his coveted title...against THREE men. Courtesy of Erik Watts. A man driven by jealousy. Well Watts...tonight, when Jeff Jarrett walks out of here tonight with the NWA World Title still hanging over his shoulder...then Watts, who'll have the last laugh? That's right Erik...me. And nobody enjoys a laugh more than me. Jim Carrey and I are best buddies. But even he couldn't give me the kind of laugh that I'll get when you have to see my man Jeff walk out of Nashville holding the NWA Title. So Erik...I know you're at home watching. So sit back, grab that bumper size packet of potato chips to help keep your 'athletic' figure...and watch Don Callis' production of 'Living For Today'! Callis throws down the microphone, and joins Tenay at ringside as the crowd boo away. OR: 76 Notes: Don Callis gained overness from this segment. Callis- What's up Mike...ready for tonight? Tenay- Oh yes Don...ready to be 'carried'. Welcome to you all at home to Living Fo... Callis- I've already dealt with that. Run down the card Mike. Tenay- Fine. We've got the fourway World Title Match that my buddy here is less than happy about. K-Ness arrives in America to take on the opponent of his own request, The Amazing Red. Also Ron Killings takes on Sonny Saiki. We've got 6 man tag action with Spanky and Paul London debuting in NWA:TNA. And we're also set to crown new Tag Team Champions Don... Callis- Four teams, one ring. The winners take the gold after the 'former champions' were recently 'relieved of their services'. Should be a great way to kick off my great night Mike... NWA Tag Team Championships, Four Team Elimination Match Kyo Dai vs America's Most Wanted vs Team Tough Enough vs The New Church The words ‘cluster’ and ‘fuck’ come into mind for this one. The match started with Akio and John Hennigan, and at a lightning fast pace. Both men engaged in a fine display of counter wrestling…but as soon as Chris Harris tagged in, the match seemed to go downhill. Rapid tags to get everyone a shot in the ring slow the pace of the match down, and for the first five minutes that’s the way it stays. Things only get more hurried once all eight men end up brawling in the ring. Everyone soon ends up the outside, except Slash and Matt. Matt went for a hurricanrana...as suddenly Sinn jumped to the apron, and dropped him across the top rope throat first. A roll-up later and Team Tough Enough were gone. Quickly Sakoda rolled in, and nailed Slash with an exploder suplex...before Yang came off the top with a flying kick to the jaw, and a pin to get rid of the New Church. Which left two teams. Akio and Sakoda got the jump on Harris, and wore him down in true tag team fashion...until Harris got the tag. Storm nearly got the pin on Akio before Sakoda came in and threw him from the ring. However, Harris rolled in and spinebustered Sakoda out of his boots. Akio went for a flying crossbody, but caught...and nailed with a Catatonic! Cover...and three, as America's Most Wanted are yet again the NWA Tag Team Champions! Winners and NEW NWA Tag Team Champions: America's Most Wanted in 12:24 3/4* (56, 46, 67) Notes: The NWA Tag Team titles have gained in image. Sinn is losing overness because of his weak gimmick. Tenay- The America's Most Wanted have done it again! They're the NWA Tag Team Champions...for the fourth time! Callis- Well...I can't say they didn't deserve. I should be able to say it, because it's true. But, I can't say it. Tenay- How can you say they didn't deserve it? Callis- Well, they didn't beat the top team in TNA...The Red Shirts, who are in action NEXT! Tenay- Very good...very good Don. Six Man Tag Team Match Spanky, Paul London, and Chris Vaughn vs TNA Managment (Kid Kash, Kevin Northcutt and Legend) Spanky and London's TNA debut unfortunately came under this restricting 6 man tag...where for the most part, they were out of the match. After a brief flurry by the faces, Vaughn was isolated and triple teamed. To be fair, Vaughn was triple teamed well...The Management hitting a nice double suplex/Kash crossbody combo at one point. But the crowd wanted Spanky and London, not Vaughn. Kash was his stellar cocky self, and put in a good performance...but it was when eventually London got the tag that the crowd really got into this one. London, and Spanky, came out flying with the high flying skillz...a simultaneous plancha to seperate Red Shirts earning them a "TNA chant". In the end Kash got Vaughn in the ring and delivered the Bank Roll, only for London to make the save. London rocked Kash...as suddenly, through the crowd came Chris Sabin...and as the ref was distracted by Legend, SABIN NAILED LONDON!!! The crowd booed wildly, as Kash hit the Bank Roll and got the pin on London to win the match. Winners: TNA Management by pinfall (Kash over London) in 8:04 *1/2 (62, 51, 74) Notes: Legend debuted his new gimmick (Staff Member), it got a positive response. Callis- YES! Tenay- Damn it, what was Chris Sabin doing out here...why did he attack Paul London!?! Callis- Who cares? My boys did it! Tenay- Oh...your 'boys' won. I guess I should be happy then. Callis- Why not...I am! Tenay- You would be...folks, next up...we're going to hear from AJ Styles! Stay tuned. After a brief commercial for next week's edition of XPlosion... ...AJ Styles's music hits! The crowd give a mixed reaction to the former NWA World Champion, as he walks down to the ring. Styles- You know...tonight, I ha... Wait a minute! Suddenly Jeff Jarrett's music hits, and here comes the NWA Champion! Styles didn't even get a chance to talk. Jarrett slowly enters the ring too, taking a microphone of his own as the crowd boo him. Styles- Wha... Jarrett- Shut tha hell up Styles! This is ma show, ma company...and nobody in Nashville here tonight wants to hear you flap your little gums. They want to here from their Chosen champion. An' right now...they're goin' to. Styles- Really? Really Jeff? See, I think tha... Oh...wait another minute, because suddenly D'Lo Brown's music hits...and the crowd ROAR their approval. D'Lo is awesomely over. Getting a mic, D'Lo rolls in too as three of the four men in tonight's main event are squaring up to each other. D'Lo- Can we just hold up one darn minute here...cause I gots something to say! You know AJ, you and me used to be good friends. Tag team partners. Allies. And, then...you changed. You started to change for the worse. With Russo pushing you around, you turned into a little bitch! The crowd pop, as Styles looks angry. D'Lo- But, what I don't get is...why you're still acting like that bitch. There's no Russo. Just you. And I know yo... Jarrett- Listen, I came out here to talk to these people...I don't need two nobodies taking up my precious air time. Ok? Boos for Jarrett, as D'Lo gets right up into his face. D'Lo- Listen up...'champ'. Jarrett- No, you listen D'Lo! This ain't 1999, and you sure as hell ain't in my leauge anymore. You never were...but, now...it's different. Now...I'm the champion. D'Lo- Not for much longer...'Double J'. See, I... Suddenly Styles steps in between the two, clearly angry that his interview time has been sabotaged. Jarrett shoves him back out of the way...so Styles barges back in, to be shoved aside by D'Lo! D'Lo and Jarrett are ready to go at it...wait, Styles spins D'Lo around... ...and NAILS JARRETT!!! "RAAAHHH!" The crowd are going nuts, as Styles pulls the dazed World Champion up...and sets him...STYLES CLASH! Styles just attacked the NWA Champion. D'Lo looks on shocked, as Styles nods to him...and extends his hand! A chant of 'shake it' starts up...as D'Lo shakes! D'Lo and Styles have finally buried the hatchet between them, and the crowd is loving it! OR: 74 Notes: AJ Styles's turn was completed, and he is now a face. AJ Styles gained overness from this turn. Tenay- AJ Styles has finally come arou... Callis- What the hell is this!?! That's the World Champion...you don't disrespect the World Champion... Tenay- But, will he be the World Champion when tonight is over? Ron Killings vs Sonny Siaki A great match here. Killings looked totally motivated, and put on a performance reminiscent of his World Title days. The match started off with some nice chain wrestling, which Siaki lost...but put a stop to it with a thumb to the eye. Saiki used his strength advantage from thereon, until the comeback from Killings. Some shockingly good wrestling from the two followed, the crowd behind it all the way, before suddenly the match degenerated into an all out brawl. Winding up in the corner, Siaki and Killings exchanged chops...before the right hands started flying. Quickly the referee stepped in between...but got shoved to the mat by both men, who then continued on with the vicious rights. At this point the ref called for the bell, and signalled for a Double DQ which the crowd didn't like at all. Saiki chased the ref out of the ring, as Killings was angry too. Both men argued in the ring for a moment, before Killings finally shrugged his shoulders, and offered a handshake to Saiki, knowing what a great match they had before the brawling. Saiki took the hand...but nailed a cheap shot right, before pounding Killings down. Saiki pulled Killings up, and nailed the Siakalypse Now, before leaving the ring to a tirade of boos. Double Disqualification at 14:43 ***1/2 (80, 72, 88) Tenay- What a disgusting lack of sportsmanship from Sonny Saiki! Callis- Oh, it was alright for AJ Styles to attack poor Jeff Jarrett though. Tenay- Will you get over it Don? Callis- You...you are such a...such... Tenay- K-Ness debuts...NEXT! Callis- Hey, I wasn't done yet! Nobody interrupts me! Special Challenge Match K-Ness vs The Amazing Red Toryumon mainstay K-Ness made his debut here...and with a great opponent to boot. Pity most of the crowd didn't get the memo about K-Ness seemingly...most of them playing dead throughout the match. The two X-Division stars however put on a great match, despite the mass apathy. An evenly fought battle, K-Ness looked to have won it with a vicious Tornado DDT. Red managed to kick out though, and after a chain wrestling sequence to rival many...Red managed to catch the Code Red from nowhere, and get the clean 3 count. Winner: The Amazing Red by pinfall in 7:22 ** (60, 38, 82) Tenay- An amazing match! High flying, high impact action like you'll only see in the NWA:TNA! Callis- That was great Mike, but you know what else is great. Tenay- Would this be Jeff Jarrett by any chance? Callis- Of course. Sit back Mike, relax...and watch Erik Watts' best laid plans blow up in his face. This my friend...will be great. Tenay- Ok...but...before that, we've got to go backstage with Goldylocks...and she's with Raven. We go back to where Raven is stood backstage with Goldylocks. Goldylocks- Raven, we are just moments away from the main event...your shot at the NWA Championship...and you go after Jeff Jarrett along with AJ Styles and D'Lo Brown. Three men you know very well... Raven- And so...it has come to pass. The top four men in the NWA:TNA, put into one ring to settle once and for all...which of us four is the better man? Tonight is the end of my destiny, to finally claim the NWA Title. In the past I have been denied too many times, by stupid mistakes or by outside parties. But this time I will not be denied. Raven turns towards the camera, glaring forwards. Raven- I will be crowned the champion. I will finally rise to the top once more, as I did nearly ten years ago. People wish to talk of a 'revolution'...I like to think of it, as a resurrection. The resurrection of the greatest ECW Champion in that company's history. AJ Styles. D’Lo Brown. Jeff Jarrett. Nobody can stop me. None of them. This is my destiny. This…this is my time. So when you’re standing that ring tonight guys, and suddenly…there’s that sound. Knock. Knock. You hear me knocking…I think I’m coming in! And I’m coming…for the gold. Quote the Raven…Nevermore! Raven walks out of shot, as Goldylocks quickly sends it back to ringside… OR: 83 NWA World Championship, Four Corners Match Jeff Jarrett © vs Raven vs AJ Styles vs D'Lo Brown The main event and the crowd were pumped up for this one. A battle from the get-go, it started off with Styles and an angry Jarrett in the ring. Tags were to be made in and out from the other two men, and that’s just what happened. The tags slowed the pace down, as happened in the Tag Title match, but for the most part the four rectified it. Raven hit the Evenflow on D’Lo early on, and would have got the 3 if not for Styles. Styles managed to catch D’Lo minutes later with a roll-up which Jarrett had to break up. As the match went on, the tag format was gradually abandoned as referee Mark Johnson let the match go. In the end D’Lo nailed Raven with the Sky High, only for Styles to throw him from the ring. Styles tried to get Raven up for the Styles Clash, but Jarrett charged sending Raven out of the ring and Styles to the mat. Jarrett went for the Stroke, Styles escaped but pushed Jarrett to the ropes…roll-up…countered by Jarrett…and he grabs the tights…and gets the 3!!! Jarrett retains, by foul measures! Quickly he escapes, as Styles is left fuming. Winner and still NWA Champion: Jeff Jarrett by pinfall in 17:54 **1/4 (76, 77, 76) Notes: The NWA World Heavyweight title has gained in image. Callis- YES! YES! Break out the bunting, prepare the party poppers, Jeff’s done it! Jeff’s done it Mike! Tenay- With illegal tactics… Callis- Who cares! Jeff did it. I hope you’re watching Watts! Jarrett did it, just like I told you he would…you know what…I’m going up there. Later Mike…it’s time to celebrate. Callis leaves the commentary position and manoeuvres his way past Raven, Styles and D’Lo to celebrate with Jarrett… Tenay- Well, Don Callis is off kissing Jeff Jarrett’s ass, so it remains for me to say thank you for joining us tonight on PPV. We appreciate every single buy we got…and hope you’ll tune in next week to XPlosion on Urban America…goodbye! OR: 71- Decent enough…the Tag Title match was a letdown, but Killings/Saiki and the main event were rock solid…Red and K-Ness wasn’t bad either. The main point for TNA is this will be a big source of income for them… Attendance: 11,778 Buyrate: 0.
King Cucaracha 0 Report post Posted January 28, 2004 Post Event News… From the show, we made $1,875,000 from pay-per-view revenue and $153,114 from ticket sales. Nice to make a profit on this game for a change. Ron Killings and Sonny Saiki clicked in their match…which is great news considering they are set to feud together. After the show, a written contract was offered to Julio Dinero. Once the offer got to $31,000, he accepted…which was good news for us, as we see Julio as a future star. Christopher Daniels would like the opportunity to work with AJ Styles in the future…which he will do in two weeks time. Using Daniels on a show…$65,000. Keeping the roster happy…priceless. WWE Hits Back! After the firing spree that went down last week amongst the WWE, many people wondered why they’d do such a thing…to cull so many superstars seemed a bad idea. Now, it’s clear why Vince McMahon did it…to make way for another wave of the old guard. Ken Shamrock, Glenn Gilberti, Kevin Nash and Randy ‘Macho Man’ Savage have ALL been snapped up to written contracts. It therfore looks like Savage will get to appear at Wrestlemania XX after all…Kevin Nash meanwhile is back after getting a second opinion from the doctors. Shamrock is also come back, and Glenn Gilbeti arrves just days off of his firing by the NWA:TNA as the WWE proves once again…youth isn’t everything, charisma is. Expect an internet backlash against Nash and Savage, again, in the coming days. NWA:TNA XPlosion Preview Join us tonight on Urban America for the fallout from "Living For Today", as we will be joined by Jeff Jarrett...ready to talk about his victory a week ago to retain his title. Also, Erik Watts will be present, and will present his new segment 'Watt's Cooking?'. His first guest? TNA Chief Executive Don Callis! A tense situation is sure to result from this, after some of Callis' comments towards Watts last week. In the ring, three matches...the first seeing Raven going one on one with Jeff Jarrett's TNA Management ally Legend. Raven saw his dream of becoming the NWA Champion snatches from him again last week, and is sure to be in a foul mood. AAA legend The Latin Lover debuts in the NWA:TNA against Sonny Saiki who last week put on a great showing with Ron Killings, before a double DQ. Can Saiki do better against Latin Lover, or will he mark his TNA debut with a win? And finally the main event...X Division Champion Chris Sabin teaming up with Kyo Dai, Akio and Sakoda to face the team of Paul London and the new, and 4 time NWA Tag Team Champions The America's Most Wanted. AMW beat Kyo Dai in the final fall of the elimination match last week for the titles...but the main story comes from Chris Sabin, who for some reason cost Paul London and team their match against TNA Management last week. Was it to help the Management? Was it to purely attack London? Or was it just to get noticed? Whatever reason it was for , Sabin will have to face up to what he did this week. King Cucaracha 0 Report post Posted January 29, 2004 Cheers guys, glad you're enjoying it... NWA:TNA XPlosion 14th February 2004 Live from the TNA Asylum, in Nashville Tennesee Commentators: ‘The Professor’ Mike Tenay and ‘TNA Chief Executive’ Don Callis After the opening credits, the pyros and the rest XPlosion opens up live in Nashville. Mike Tenay is at ringside, with the Chief Exec himself Don Callis. Tenay- Welcome to XPlosion, live here from the TNA Asylum. And tonight is the fallout from "Living For Today"...we've got new Tag Team Champions, they'll be here tonight... Callis- But we DON'T have a new World Champion. The Chosen One is still the Chosen champion. He'll be here tonight. Tenay- And what's this I'm hearing about you accepting to be on Erik Watts' new talk segment? Callis- Michael, Michael...there's some gloating to be done. And I want to do it to Watts' face tonight. Suddenly, the music of Paul London hits and the man himself walks out clearly not in a good mood. Rolling into the ring he demands a microphone, turning back to the entrance immediately. London- Chris Sabin...you've got some explaining to do, and I want you to give me answers to some questions...right now! London waits...until suddenly Sabin comes out, to a mixed reaction from the crowd. London- So... Sabin- Listen London. Paul. I know you're angry about what happened last week. And...I know I have some explaining to do to you. I realise that. First of all, I just want to say... Sabin suddenly nails a boot to the gut from nowhere...and hits the Future Shock! The crowd are in shock for moment, before realising what's just happened, and booing Sabin wildly. Sabin- I just want to say that it was me who should have gotten that WWE contract. It was me who should have been the number one contender to the ROH Title. ME who should have got the recognition...not you. Me. I'm the X-Division Champion. The best junior heavyweight wrestler in this company. And I'll be damned if you and your little buddy are going to waltz in here and try to take my belt. Sabin throws down the microphone and storms off, as the crowd boo him on his way. OR: 52 Notes: Chris Sabin's turn was completed, and he is now a heel. Chris Sabin gained overness from this turn. Tenay- It sounds to me like Chris Sabin is a little jealous of Paul London. Callis- Nonsense Mike. Chris Sabin is the X-Division Champion. Not Paul London. Chris Sabin. If anything, London is jealous of Sabin! Tenay- How the hell do you make that out? Callis- London obviously came to TNA to take Sabin's belt. Chris said so himself...that consitutes jealusy to me. Tenay- You're just saying that because Sabin helped your 'boys' win last week. And speaking of your 'boys', we've got Legend coming up...but Don, he's got to face Raven! Callis- Tonight Legend is going to show the world something...I have a feeling this will be the beginning of Legend's future legendary status. Raven vs Legend A real brawl between these two men, which the crowd were red hot into. The action was also surprisingly enjoyable, the mix of the two made for an entertaining, if a little short match. Raven used his experience to dominate the match, and rally against Legend's continually shady tactics. After blocking an avalanche in the corner towards the end, Raven caught Legend with the Evenflow from out of nowhere, for a comprehensive victory. But the action was far from over, as another TNA Management member Abyss rolled in...nailing Raven with the Black Hole. Raven was left laying, as Abyss helped Legend to the back. Winner: Raven by pinfall in 6:29 *3/4 (75, 78, 70) Callis- YES! Raven has just been decimated...and I for one Mike enjoyed it. Tenay- I guess that was your idea... Callis- I had no idea that was going to happen, I promise you. Tenay- Yeah...yeah right. Let's go back to Goldylocks with the NWA Champion... Callis- Oh, let's! Goldylocks- Jeff Jarrett... The crowd boo, as Jarrett steps into view on the big screen, NWA Title belt over his shoulder. Goldylocks- ...last week at Living For Today, you overcame the threat of your three biggest rivals in one match...and retained your NWA World Championship. How do you feel... Jarrett- I'd like to know how you feel...but that's another story for another day Goldy. How do I feel? Well, I guess I should have expected such a stupid question from Erik Watts' 'valet'...if that's what you'd call yourself. How do you think I feel Goldy. I feel great! I proved last week that without a shadow of a doubt that I'm the champion...the best wrestler in the NWA today...and the man nobody can beat. You know, Erik Watts wants to try and take that title from me? Fine. But I want to ask Watts how it feels. How it feels to know that even with the top three challengers to my belt in the NWA:TNA against me, I still won that match. I still retained my title. His best laid plans couldn't prise this gold from my fingers! Clearly getting tired of Jarrett's cockyness, Goldylocks stares off into the distance through this...before finally interrupting. Goldylocks- And any response to the claims you cheate... Jarrett- Cheated? Listen lady...in that ring, and for this title...you do what you gotta do to win the gold. AJ Styles would have done the same thing in my position. Hell, he attacked me before the match. Everyone may have forgotten that...I haven't. AJ Styles had better realise that you don't mess with the champ. I have not, and will not, forgotten your actions. And believe me AJ, they will not go unpunished. With a disingenuous smile Jarrett walks off, leaving Goldylocks looking on sneering. OR: 80% Callis- Man, has this been a great show or what? Raven getting destroyed by Abyss...and a word from the champ. And hell, we've still got me humiliating Erik Watts to come! Tenay- We'll see about that. Folks, up next we see the debut of The Latin Lover...who has been a regular with AAA down in Mexico for nearly ten years. Tonight he returns to American screens for the first time since Worlds Collide... Callis- But he's up against a younger, more athletic Sonny Saiki. Tenay- Latin Lover is still athletic Don. He's a former stripper down in Mexico, he... Callis- I'm not going to ask how you know that Mike... Latin Lover vs Sonny Siaki For two men with both mis-match of styles, and not the most renowned wrestling skills, this wasn't too bad. Saiki, who was impressive last week on the PPV, dominated with some great offense...Lover guiding the younger Saiki through the match well. Lover however has lost a step since World's Collide when he was last widely seen. Not unlike Konnan I suppose. The match ended when a surprisingly popular Lover caught Saiki with a roll-up, only for Saiki to counter...grabbing the ropes to help him get the three count. No sooner had the match finished than Ron Killings sprinted down the aisle with a steel chair, and CRACKED it across Saiki's back. Another shot sent Saiki reeling, and running as Killings chased after him...looking for retirbution after last week's incident. Winner: Sonny Saiki by pinfall in 5:27 *1/2 (62, 50, 75) Tenay- This situation between Sonny Saiki and Ron Killings is obviously FAR from over! Callis- Good god Mike, Ron Killings came out here like a madman! Tenay- Well, he feels disrespected. He offered his hand to Sonny Saiki last week, after that double DQ...and Saiki cheapsho... Callis- Look, can this wait until later? Because look up in the ring. They're setting things up for Watts' little talk...and guess what Mike...I'm ready to humiliate Erik Watts. As soon as the set was ready...the set basically being a dark blue carpet and a couple of stools...Erik Watts came out to a great reaction from the crowd. As he got to the ring, Callis decided not to wait for any introductions or requests, and entered the ring himself...cockily sitting on one of the stools before Watts even gets into the ring. Callis- You...er...you wanted to talk Erik? Watts- You know Don, you're very astute. See that's why I commissioned myself a talk show segment...to talk. And yeah Don, I want to talk to you. I want to talk to you about... Callis suddenly stands up, and holds up his hand to stop Watts. Callis- Erik, let's talk about what I want to talk about shall we. About how last week...in this very arena I presented Living For Today. I presented the NWA:TNA fans with a great night of action. Me. Your sole contribution, which was booking Jeff Jarrett into a corner...it failed. Miserably. Jeff Jarrett is still the World Champion, while you... Callis pokes Watts in the chest, much to his surprise. Callis- You were left with egg on your face. Now, my question to you is... Watts- Hold up one second here Don. Now, this is my segment. So I'll ask the questions. And my first question is...what do you have to say to this... Watts points up to the big screen, as a replay of Jarrett winning the four corners match plays...focusing on the use of the tights. As the video ends, Callis starts to stammer...as Watts grabs his microphone, and throws it out of the ring to a pop. Watts- My segment...my rules. You talk when I want you to talk. Don, you saw it. I saw it. Jeff used the tights to win. Now, surely a true champion would have won fairly? Callis- Well, Jeff ha... Watts pulls the microphone away from Callis, who looks slightly POed as Watts tries his best not to smile. Watts- Yes, a true champion would have won fairly. Which begs the question...is Jeff Jarrett a true champion. Callis- Of cour... Watts- See...in my opinion, he's not. He took on three men. And won, I will admit that. But he had to break the rules to do so, which I don't think s very fair...do you Don. Callis- I thi... Watts- Now, if this was your segment...I'd care about what you thought. But, it's not...so, we won't hear what you think. Callis is fuming now, as the crowd are loving this. Watts- See, in my opinion...AJ Styles deserves some retribution. Don't you agree? Callis- No, I do... Watts- Of course you do! That's why I think next month, when NWA:TNA goes back live on Pay Per View and presents , I think AJ Styles deserves a fair rematch. Don't you agree Donald... Callis- Listen here Watts...if you pull that microphone away from me when I'm talking once more, I'm going to ki... Watts- So, that's settled. It's J...E...Double F...J...A...Double R...E...Double T. Taking on A...J...St... BAM! Watts turns around, and gets slapped by Callis!!! Callis lunges forward and tries to take Watts down with more wild blows, but Watts catches him...and spinebusters Callis, before firing away with rights of his own. The crowd are going crazy as quickly referees and officials swarm the ring, trying to seperate the two...eventually doing so by pulling Watts from the ring. Callis meanwhile is hurt, and pulled from the ring too... OR: 78 Notes: Erik Watts gained overness from this segment. Don Callis gained overness from this segment. Tenay- I don't think that was what Don expected! And luckily for me, that means Don...is gone! We however still have the main event to come...Sabin, Akio and Sakoda taking on London and the America's Most Wanted. After what happened earlier tonight, Paul London is going to be out for retribution! ***MAIN EVENT*** Six Man Tag Team Match X-Division Champion Chris Sabin, Akio and Sakoda vs Paul London and NWA Tag Team Champions America's Most Wanted Right from the start, London wanted Sabin...but the feeling wasn't mutual. For the first three quarters of the match, it was all AMW vs Kyo Dai. The two teams put on a decent enough showing, but nothing spectacular. Eventually Sabin came in against Harris, taunting London as he worked 'The Wildcat' over. Still, whenever London came in, Sabin was quick to scoot off. By the time Harris tagged out, it was too late...Kyo Dai and AMW brawled to the outside, leaving Sabin and London alone. That lasted a minute or so, before AMW came in...and hit the Death Sentence on Sabin. Akio and Sakoda quickly cleared them from the ring...leaving London free to climb to the top, hitt he London Calling, and get the 3 count on the X-Division Champion! Winners: Paul London and America's Most Wanted by pinfall in 7:49 *3/4 (62, 47, 78) Tenay- Paul London did it! He beat the X-Division Champion...he pinned the champion. Chris Sabin suddenly isn't looking like the 'best junior heavyweight in the company' anymore! We've got to go...thank you for joining us on XPlosion...we'll see you next week! OR: 67%- Not the greatest show, but by no means 'bad'. No stand-out matches, but the Jarrett interview and Callis/Watts segment saved this show. King Cucaracha 0 Report post Posted January 29, 2004 Post Event News… Our battles with the other none shows was too close to call...apart from Velocity. The head to head competition is taking away viewers. After requesting a change of time slot with Urban America, the only decision we could make was to drop down to a graveyard position. With competition ruining our ratings, that is the course we'll take to avoid the competition for now. In conjuction with this, a promo tape has been sent out to another of the channels, in a hope of securing another T.V deal on a less competitive time slot. King Cucaracha 0 Report post Posted January 30, 2004 January 11th A little nervously I swung the office door open...knowing this couldn't be good news. You're never called to your boss' office for good news. There was Jerry sitting at his desk...smiling? Was it a happy smile...and why was he happy. By now I was getting gradually more nervous. Something told me this wasn't good. I wasn't exactly comfortable in meetings in the past. This was much worse. Jerry however seemed contented enough to allow me to sit down. Jerry- Well...we've got some good news... Well, that was a relief. Jerry- We made a lot of money from the PPV, which I'm very pleased about. If this goes on, then at the end of the month...we'll be able to consider a big name signing. Smiling, I started to relax...a little too soon. Jerry- The bad news is we got KILLED in the ratings by WWE Velocity. They got a 4.12 rating...we could only manage a 0.01. Me- That's...that's not good, is it. Jerry- Ha ha! No, it's not good. We've had to move the show down to a later time-slot to avoid the same result next week. It may not give you as much time to work with, but we'll more get more viewers on the graveyard slot than we will head to head with the WWE right now. Other than that...it wasn't a bad show. Me- Thanks, it should be better this week though. I've got A.J Styles vs Chris Daniels planned, an... Jerry- Ah. I was going to mention something to you about our written contracters. See...we have quite a lot of them. And with the reduced time to work with on the show now, we don't have much space to put vast amounts of stars on. So I was going to suggest you only use those people on written contracts as much as possible. Which means... Me- No Daniels. Right. Ok...this was suddenly going badly. Back came the sinking feeling, as everything started to sink in. Jerry- I'll talk to Chris and the other guys on open contracts. Unless, you really want to use him. I mean...it's just a suggestion. Me- No...you're right Jerry. We need to get the most for our money out of the written deals. Jerry- Yes. Speaking of deals, I've been talking to various networks about another T.V deal. We should know by the end of the month if we're going to get one. Me- Right. Man, this job suddenly didn't look so appealing after all. Jerry- Also, the writers have been telling me that Slash's gimmick isn't working out for him, so that may need changing soon. Me- Right. Jerry- Besides these troubles...you're doing a pretty good job. I'm told we're about $3,000,000 in the black...which is more than pleasing to know. Keep this up and we'll be able to go Global sooner than we had predicted. Me- Let's hope so.
King Cucaracha 0 Report post Posted January 31, 2004 NWA:TNA XPlosion Preview Join us tonight on Urban America, in our new later timeslot, for a huge night of action. We now know that the March PPV will be entitled “Quest For The Gold”, and will of course see the return of the 30 man Quest For The Gold match, to crown a number one contender to the NWA Title. We also now know that the current number one contender is AJ Styles, and will face Jeff Jarrett one on one for the NWA Title at Quest For The Gold on March 28th. Will more matches be made for Quest For The Gold on Saturday night? On the show, we will hear from Raven on the subject of Abyss, who last week attacked Raven after his match with Legend. What’s the dealio? Hopefully we’ll find out this week. In the ring, 19 year old hot prospect, and former WWE World Tag Team Champion Rene Dupree arrives in Nashville, and makes his singles debut against Julio Dinero. Dinero will be looking to make an example of the newcomer, but can he overcome the challenge from the youngster? The NWA Tag Team Championships will be put on the line, as the reigning champions The America’s Most Wanted defend against Akio and Sakoda. It was the Kyo Dai team that America’s Most Wanted defeated in the four team elimination match at Living For Today…can Akio and Sakoda make up for their loss by taking the titles from the four time champs? Another title will be put on the line Saturday night…the NWA X-Division Champion Chris Sabin makes a defence against Ron Killings. However, this will be no ordinary match…as Sonny Saiki, who has had problems with Ron Killings in recent weeks, will be the special guest referee. With the deck slightly more stacked, can Killings still take the gold? And in the big main event, Raven and AJ Styles will have to face a handicap match. TNA Management’s chosen team of Kid Kash, Abyss and the NWA Champion himself Jeff Jarrett provide the three on two opposition…and even though Raven and Styles will no doubt be fired up for this match, will that alone be enough to beat three of the top superstars in the NWA:TNA today? King Cucaracha 0 Report post Posted February 2, 2004 Just finished this...a 9,595 word SWF match kinda takes it out of you, but oh well... NWA:TNA XPlosion 21st February 2004 Live from the TNA Asylum, in Nashville Tennesee Commentators: ‘The Professor’ Mike Tenay and ‘TNA Chief Executive’ Don Callis After the opening credits, the pyros and the rest XPlosion opens up, and we're again live in Nashville. Mike Tenay and Don Callis are at ringside again to call all the action. Tenay- Welcome to XPlosion, where we are live from the TNA Asylum. Thank you all for joining here at our new later time...for what promises to be a huge night. Callis- That's right. Tonight I've put Raven and AJ Styles where they belong...against the odds, like poor Jeff Jarrett was at Living For Today. We'll see them taking on Abyss, Kid Kash and the NWA Champion himself in a handicap match...and, I promise, see them get destroyed! Tenay- As well as Don's self obsessent booking, we've got the Tag Titles and X-Division Titles on the line. Plus the NWA:TNA debut of young 19 year old Rene Dupree. Callis- An awesome prospect Mike, that's Rene Dupree. NWA:TNA X-Division Championship, Guest Referee Match Chris Sabin © vs Ron Killings Referee: Sonny Saiki Well, Killings has been having problems with Saiki recently. We were told during the match that Callis made Saiki the ref...after all, he is the heel authority. Killings put on another great showing here and Sabin was in form too...all in all, a great free TV match. Saiki played your typical heel referee, getting on Killings' case without really breaking any rules. That let Sabin take over the match, and get increasingly nearer falls. Killings should have got the win from a desperation DDT, but Saiki's count was suspiciously slow. Eventually Killings rallied...but that's where the match abruptly ended. As Killings started to hit the ten rights in the corner, Saiki suddenly called for the bell. The crowd were incensed, as Saiki had DQed Killings for not breaking the hold before a five count, and Sabin was therefore the winner. He quickly escaped, as Killings suddenly nailed Saiki with a clothesline. Killings then nailed Saiki with the Truth or Consequences, before storming off. Winner and still X-Division Champion: Chris Sabin by disqualification in 8:28 *** (74, 62, 86) Notes: Chris Sabin gained overness from this match. The NWA X title has gained in image. Tenay- I guess you're happy Don. Ron Killings got screwed out of the X-Division Title. I guess that's why Sonny Saiki was made the referee in the first place. Callis- Saiki was just holding up the law. A lot of referees could learn a thing or two from Sonny. Tenay- Oh come on Don! Ron Killings got screwed by Saiki tonight! Suddenly we cut backstage, where Raven is stood by with Scott Hudson. Hudson- Raven, last week after your match with Legend, you were attacked by Abyss…for what so far remains unknown reasons. Do you have any idea as to why Aby… Raven- It seems to me…that Abyss wants to make a name for himself at my expense. I’m sure Don Callis is advising him to take me out of the NWA:TNA, to make a name for himself. You see though Scott…that’s nothing new to me. I’ve spent my whole career watching my back, for people who want to make a name off of my legacy. CM Punk. Tommy Dreamer. Justin Credible. The list is long Scott. But the bottom line is…every single one of those people ended up wishing they;d gone for a weaker target. I’m not an easy person to make an example out of. Abyss…I welcome your challenge to try and eliminate me. It will not be easy I can promise you. Tonight, with two of your closest allies by your side…even then, I will welcome your challenge. I’m not afraid of you. I never will be. Because I have been through more pain and suffering in this business than you could ever imagine! I’m not about to let some overgrown, overhyped, over-expectant freak destroy my legacy, or destroy me. Abyss...you will end up like the rest who have tried to mess with me. Just...a memory. Quoth the Raven...NEVERMORE! Raven storms off, leaving Hudson standing a little dumbfounded. OR: 81 Tenay- That’s one angry man Don Callis. Callis- Angry, shmangry…Abyss is not afraid of Raven, however 'angry' he may be. Tenay- We'll see later on tonight during the handicap match main event. Meanwhile, up next we'll see the NWA:TNA debut of young Rene Dupree... Callis- This kid has got a great future in this business Mike. If he can beat Julio Dinero tonight, then that future could become slightly more 'immediate'. Rene Dupree vs Julio Dinero w/James Mitchell Dupree has dropped the Frenchman gimmick is seems, wrestling in regular attire rather than the French flag inspired garb of his WWE days. In fact, he played the face here...which took the crowd a little while to realise, it seemed. Dinero used his speed to dominate the early part of the match, building to a comeback which the crowd gradually got behind. The biggest reaction of the match came after Dupree nailed a powerslam...and did his 'Jolly Frenchman Jig', to a big pop from the crowd! In the end, Dupree blocked a hurricanrana attempt from Julio with a powerbomb, before knocking James Mitchell off the apron with a right hand! He then hit a death valley driver on Dinero, to get a popular three count. Winner: Rene Dupree by pinfall in 5:37 *1/4 (62, 54, 70) Notes: Rene Dupree debuted his new gimmick, it got a negative response. Tenay- An impressive debut victory for Rene Dupree...and he certainly earned it! Callis- Well, this kid has proved himself, but from here on he's got to continue winning in order to move up the rankings. Tenay- Who knows, with Quest For The Gold a month or so away, who's to say this kid won't shock everyone and win himself a title shot...even become the youngest NWA Champion ever? Callis- Let's not go nuts here Mike. Dupree isn't good enough to beat Jeff Jarrett. Tenay- Who says Jarrett'll even have the title come April? Callis- Well...me for one. NWA Tag Team Championships America's Most Wanted © vs Kyo Dai A routine defense for the AMW always looked likely...and that's what this match was. Entertaining as it was, you couldn't really see Kyo Dai stealing it. Neither could the fans. Akio is back to being called Yang...I guess, because Vince values four letters so much for some reason. Pity he didn't value Yang enough not to fire him, eh? Anyway...an enjoyable, fast paced match for the time it got. Yang and Sakoda isolated Chris Harris briefly...but it didn't take long for Storm to get the tag, and clear house. After some acrobatics from Yang, he got snapped with a vicious spinebuster, sold to perfection. And, sure enough, Yang moments later ran straight into the waiting arms of Harris...and the AMW hit the Death Sentence for an easy victory. Winner and still NWA Tag Champions: America's Most Wanted by pinfall (Harris over Yang) in 5:51 **1/4 (67, 53, 81) Notes: The NWA Tag Team titles have gained in image. Tenay- An easy victory for the champs! And what champions they are. Callis- Yeah, yeah...that's all great Mike. But can we please talk about what's up next? Tenay- What, AJ St... Callis- The handicap match. The three top stars in the NWA:TNA today teaming up to take Raven and AJ Styles out! Tenay- It won't be that easy Don. Callis- It's three on two Mike! Of course it's going to be easy! Tenay- AJ Styles and Raven are two of the most determined men in the NWA:TNA. Hell, they have to be with you as cheif executive. It's won't be as easy to take them out as you expect. ***MAIN EVENT*** 3 on 2 Handicap Match AJ Styles and Raven vs TNA Managment (Kid Kash, Abyss and Jeff Jarrett) An excellent way to end the show. The crowd were solidly behind the Raven/Styles duo, and Jarrett is playing top heel in the company very well. Surpisingly, after a few minutes of open action, it was Raven who was worn down by the TNA Management rather than Styles. Abyss did a lot of damage with high impact move after high impact move, while Jarrett and Kash got their kicks in when they so desired. Kash almost got the win from a tornado DDT, Abyss almost after a chokeslam. Eventually Raven managed to catch Jarrett with a clothesline, and a double tag brought Styles in with Kash. Styles deals with Kash and Abyss for a while, but the numbers game eventually catches up with him. Jarrett goes for the Stroke, but Styles counters with a rolling leg takedown. Abyss comes in, as does Kash...Raven clotheslines Kash out, and nails the Evenflow on Abyss! Jarrett throws Raven from the ring, and goes over to Styles in the corner...looking for a ten punch. Styles counters however...and nails the Styles Clash! Styles hooks the leg, the crowd are going nuts...1...2....3! Styles pins the NWA Champion!!! Winners: Raven and AJ Styles by pinfall (Styles over Jarrett) in 14:48 **1/2 (76, 72, 80) Tenay- Oh my god he did it! Callis- No no no NO! Tenay- This crowd is going nuts. AJ Styles has defeated the NWA Champion...and with just a month to go, AJ Styles has the advantage going in to Quest For The Gold! We'll see you next week, where there is sure to be fallout from this! Goodbye! Callis- No NO! OR: 72%- A solid improvement over last week. Killings vs Sabin was great, the main event just as exciting...the Tag Title match was entertaining if a little short, and Dupree's match with Dinero was passable. It looks like the decision to 'go graveyard' may have paid off for now... Attendance: 3007 T.V Rating: 0.16 (Highest available  )
King Cucaracha 0 Report post Posted February 2, 2004 NWA:TNA XPlosion Preview We’re back in the Asylum on Saturday night, for the last time this month. Make sure you’re there by tuning in to Urban America, or you’ll be missing Jeff Jarrett’s reaction to last week’s show. At the end of the night, despite being handicapped 3 on 2, AJ Styles and Raven defeated the TNA Management trio…however, even more importantly…AJ Styles got the pinfall victory, over the NWA Champion Jarrett. Jarrett has been reportedly fuming all week, and is sure to speak his mind when he hear from him. Another situation that's been building in the TNA ranks is the war between Ron Killings and Sonny Saiki. Attempting to step in before the war can develop any further, Erik Watts will hope to play peace keeper as he has invited both men onto the 'Watts Cooking?' set. In the ring, Don Callis has promised a match to be announced on the night that will 'affect many men's immediate futures'...but, other than that, nobody has any clue as to what he's planning. However, as it's coming from the mind of Don Callis...it promises to be interesting to say the very least. We do know however that the HUGE main event will feature the momentum pushed #1 contender himself AJ Styles taking on Abyss. Last week Abyss and Styles did battle during the handicap match briefly...this coming week, there will bo no handicap...no other superstars around to tag out to. It's one on one, Abyss vs Styles...and Abyss will no doubt be on a mission to do some work for TNA Management ally Jeff Jarrett, that mission being to take AJ Styles out before Quest For The Gold. And in other action, when Raven steps into the ring this Saturday it will be like returning home...the match has been made by Erik Watts, who at the same time added a hardcore rules stipulation on top. The opponent is another TNA Management member Legend, the man who Raven defeated in singles action two weeks ago, before being attacked by Abyss. No doubt Raven will be looking to send a message to Abyss, through Legend this coming week.
Lightning Flik 0 Report post Posted February 3, 2004 Xpolsion promises some good match ups. Not too keen on the Raven vs. Legend match up though. I think the heat is going to be the only thing going for that match. But we'll have to wait and see, I'll admit that.
King Cucaracha 0 Report post Posted February 6, 2004 NWA:TNA XPlosion 28th February 2004 Live from the TNA Asylum, in Nashville Tennesee Commentators: ‘The Professor’ Mike Tenay and ‘TNA Chief Executive’ Don Callis The opening credits roll and pyro hits, as we're once again live and late in the NWA:TNA Asylum. The crowd are on their feet cheering wildly as the camera zooms around them. Meanwhile, already in the ring stands a bunch of NWA:TNA superstars for some reason... Tenay- Welcome...to XPlosion! Thank you all for staying up late with us here in the Asylum, as we are live for what promises to be another huge night. Mike Tenay alongside Don Callis, and Don...I hear we're expecting the World Champion's presense tonight. Callis- We are Tenay. We're also going to see AJ Styles get the beating he should have got last week in the main event...because I've put him up against the monster Abyss. Tenay- And do you care to explain why we've got 8 men in the ring... Callis- Mike, what better way to start tonight...that with an over the top rope, 10 man battle royal? And better yet...the winner gets an X-Division Title shot at Quest For The Gold... 10 Man Battle Royal for the #1 Contendership to the X-Division Title Entrants: Burchill, Matt Cappotelli, Julio Dinero, Rene Dupree, John Hennigan, Kid Kash, Paul London, Sakoda, Michael Shane and Yang London and Kash entered once the show came on the air...and the match was a brawl from the get-go. Yang and Sakoda tried to gang up for support, as did Hennigan and Cappotelli. It took nearly three minutes for the first elimination to come...although some came close before. The elimination came with Yang hitting a stiff kick on Cappotelli, but then charging...and getting backdropped HIGH over the ropes, and out by Matt's partner John Hennigan. Seconds later, the hurt Cappotelli was thrown out by London. Next out was Michael Shane, who got thrown out by Dinero. The match then slowed down for a while...until Dinero and Sakoda hit a double suplex on Burchill. As Dinero celebrated that, Dupree snuck up behind and threw Dinero out...just to add insult to last week's victory over him. Sakoda meanwhile threw Burchill out, and we were down to five. Kid Kash, who had stayed under the bottom rope clinging on for the match, finally started to get more involved. In the meantime, on the six minute mark Sakoda tried to throw Hennigan out, but the youngster countered, and threw Sakoda over...to complete a double elimination of Kyo Dai in the match. Order of Elimination: First Six 1st: Yang by John Hennigan in 2:45 2nd: Matt Cappotelli by Paul London in 2:57 3rd: Michael Shane by Julio Dinero in 3:40 4th: Julio Dinero by Rene Dupree in 5:23 5th: Burchill by Sakoda in 5:39 6th: Sakoda by John Hennigan in 6:02 The 'Final Four' were now left...John Hennigan, Rene Dupree, Kid Kash and Paul London. Dupree didn't last much longer as London backdropped him up and out. Kash took the advantage from here, clotheslining London up and over, but London managed to hang on. Kash then went to work on the young Hennigan, as London came back at him. A minute or so later, Hennigan was finally dumped out by London after getting hit with a Kash superkick. Kash and London were suddenly the final two left, and had an engaging exchange briefly. Kash skinned the cat to save himself at one point, before finally London managed to eliminate Kash, tipping him out after avoiding a spinning heel kick to win the battle royal! Order of Elimination: Final Four 7th: Rene Dupree by Paul London in 6:49 8th: John Hennigan by Paul London in 8:07 9th: Kid Kash by Paul London in 11:31 Winner and #1 Contender to the X-Division Title: Paul London in 11:31 * (58, 47, 70) Tenay- London wins, and London is now heading towards Quest For The Gold to face Chris Sabin for the X Division Title! Callis- And he has me to thank... Tenay- Well, London has himself to thank too. He does already hold a victory over Sabin this month... Callis- Who made the match? Tenay- What? You did...but London...look, forget it. We're going up to the ring again...because your buddy Erik Watts is about to try and settle a brewing war between Sonny Saiki and Ron Killings. Callis- Let's hope they tear each other...and Watts...apart. As we cut to the ring, Erik Watts is alread standing in the 'set' of Watts Cooking, getting a great reaction from the crowd. Watts- Welcome...to 'Watts Cooking?', where tonight I have a job to do. An important job. See, a few weeks ago when NWA:TNA presented Living For Today...one of the feature match-ups was between Sonny Saiki and Ron Killings. It was a great match between two great athletes...which, sadly, ended in a double disqualification as tempers flared. Killings extended his hand to Saiki on that night...only to get attacked. Since then, Sonny has cost Ron Killings the X-Division Title, Killings has attacked Sonny with a steel chair...it needs to stop. I don't want two of my prized assets to be fighting like this. So...right now, I'd like to call one of those men to the ring to settle this. And that man...is Sonny Saiki! The crowd boo, as Saiki struts his way down the ramp, a big grin on his face. He enteres the ring, as Watts extends his hand...before, thinking better of it and pulling it away in a funny moment. Watts- Right...now, ladies and gentlemen...please welcome Ron...KILLINGS!!! Killings' music hits, and the crowd cheer...but there's no Killings. Meanwhile, Sonny has a mic. Saiki- Oh well. Face it Erik...Killings is afraid to come out here. He doesn't want to come anywhere near me, because he's afraid of me. He's afraid of what I could do to him. Watts- Ron...if you're back there, ple... Saiki- Didn't you hear me Watts? He's afraid. He's scared. He knows that Sonny Saiki is just too sweet to beat. And that's why he's sitting in the back, a huge streak of yellow down his back, quivering at the thought of fighting me. Suddenly, Saiki stops as the crowd cheer...Killings finally walking out to the ring, looking particularly angry. Killings rolls into the ring, and immediately goes after Saiki...but Watts steps in between them. Watts- I didn't call you out here to fight. Ron...back off. I came out here so you two could end this feuding before it become a full scale war. You guys are better than this... Saiki- Oh...so I'm 'better than this' now am I? Well, then where is my World Title shot? This no talent WWF reject comes into the TNA, and gets a World Title shot...everyone thinks that's fantastic. Whereas I win the X-Division Title, and get totally overshadowed. So? Where's my recognition? Where's my respect. I'm better than Mr Kwik over here...and yet, I don't get a World Title shot or... Killings grabs the mic off Saiki. Killings- Listen Sonny boy. You ain't got no World Title shot because you don't deserve one! Watts- Sonny. Ron. Please...calm down. First, you two can get your shot at the World Title...if you win the Quest For The Gold Match that is. As of now you're officialy entered. And secondly...you have respect Sonny. But you lost a lot when you attacked Ron...which is why, I want you two to forget all that...and shake hands. Killings- You know Erik...fine. I'll be the better man and sha... Saiki with a cheapshot! Killings falls to the mat, as Saiki launches forward, jumping onto him with a flurry of rights. Watts tries to pull Saiki off, but gets shoved away...as the brawl continues to the outside. Watts just watched on desperately, as Saiki and Killings brawl up the aisle, and to the back. OR: 79 Notes: Sonny Siaki gained overness from this segment. Erik Watts gained overness from this segment. Callis- Well, so much for Watts’ stepping in to help. Tenay- This battle between Ron Killings and Sonny Saiki is a lot more personal than Erik Watts first thought it seems… Callis- Erik Watts was never really a natural ‘leader’ anyway…but I think it’ll take a while for this Killings/Saiki issue to be settled. Hardcore Rules Match Raven vs Legend A surprisingly enjoyable match…the hardcore rules to step his game up a notch, and also got the crowd behind it. Not too weapon heavy, it was instead concentrated on intensity. Legend was nearly always on the back foot, Raven’s ECW experience helping him on his way. After Legend tried to use a chair to his advantage, Raven used a Singapore cane to regain control, a cane assisted russian legsweep getting a nearfall. Legend again grabbed the chair, a vile shot with the steel putting Raven down briefly. But, not long after Raven managed to float over a Legend powerslam attempt…waiting for Legend to turn before hitting a boot to the gut and drilling Legend with the Evenflow on the steel chair! Raven hooks the leg, and makes the cover to get three count. Winner: Raven by pinfall in 6:27 *3/4 (75, 78, 71) Tenay- Raven proving himself to be the Prince of Hardcore once more. Legend never stood a chance… Callis- What do you mean ‘never stood a chance’? Tenay- Well, you saw the look in Raven’s eyes. He was on a mission tonight…and I think he accomplished it. Callis- True, but Legend is still no slouch. Meanwhile, Jeff Jarrett is backstage in his locker room sat on a chair with his NWA Title over his shoulder. Looking up at the camera, it's obvious what's on Jarrett's mind. Jarrett- AJ Styles...I bet you're feeling pretty pleased with yourself right about now, ain't ya? You're strutting around telling everyone that'll listen about how you beat me last week. Claiming to be the next NWA Champion no doubt. Let's face facts AJ...you beat me in a handicap match. A handicap match where you spent more than half the time just standing on the apron. Yeah, you pinned me. I'll admit it. But who's holding this belt? Who's the champion? Who beat you, one on one, man to man to win this belt in the first place? Me Styles. Me. Enjoy this time on top while you can, because next month you and me will go one on one once more. At Quest for the Gold I'm givin' you another shot at this here belt. Not because you deserve it...but because I have to. But rest assured AJ...this'll be your last shot at my belt for a long time if I have any say in the matter. I've proven time and time before that I'm better than you. And to be honest I'm getting sick and tired of it. If you can't beat me on March 24th, then you're going to have to face up to the fact...I'm the champion, and you're not. And the fact that I'm the better man. Jarrett stops for a moment. Jarrett- In the next few weeks we'll see just how good you are AJ. I've got a few tests lined up for ya between now and Quest For The Gold I promise you. Starting tonight with Abyss. Who I've asked personally to weaken you up a little before Quest For The Gold. And AJ...he's a monster, so I suggest you watch yourself very closely tonight kid. Very closely indeed... OR: 79 Tenay- What's that supposed to mean? Is Jeff Jarrett planning a sneak attack tonight...I sure wouldn't put it past him. Callis- Mike, what is with you? Tenay- What? Callis- Casting aspersions on everyone. Legend, Jeff Jarrett… Tenay- You… Callis- Me…HEY! ***MAIN EVENT*** Abyss vs AJ Styles The main event, and a good match. These two men gave a lot of effort and it paid off with the crowd enjoying it too. Abyss threw Styles about impressively, Styles combating it with some high flying maneuvers. The match was back and forth throughout, the main turning point coming when Abyss threw Styles into the ring post. Styles managed to fight back though, and almost shocked Abyss with a roll-up late on. As the two started throwing wild right hands, the referee caught an errant elbow to the face from Styles which seemingly knocked him out. Abyss quickly capitalised with a sidewalk slam, before going to the outside and grabbing a steel chair! The crowd started booing, but their reaction changed to cheers as Raven suddenly ran down the aisle...and before Abyss could powerbomb Styles onto the chair, Raven slid in and Evenflowed Abyss! Styles rolled into a cover, as Raven revived the ref...1...2...3, and Styles wins again. After the match, Raven rolled back into the ring and started to stomp away on Abyss, who rolled from the ring. Raven followed and a brawl began through the crowd, as suddenly from nowhere Jeff Jarrett rolled into the ring. Styles was busy celebrating, and didn't see Jarrett behind him until it was too late...and he smashed Styles in the face with the NWA Championship belt! The crowd booed wildly, as Jarrett then picked the belt up, and held it high in the air...while Styles laid flat out on the mat, blood slowly begin to seep from a wound on his forehead. Winner: AJ Styles by pinfall in 12:47 **1/4 (71, 64, 79) Tenay- For God's sake...Jeff Jarrett just laid the number one contender out. And we may need some help for Styles. Callis- That's what you get for messing with the NWA Champion! Tenay- This is ridiculous. AJ Styles has been busted wide open by our NWA Champion...and we've got to go. We'll see you next week on XPlosion...now can we get some help out here please? OR: 72- Another 72 rating…two great matches and the two solid segments, plus a battle royal which can be kindly described as 'better than most'. King Cucaracha 0 Report post Posted February 6, 2004 Month End News We made money this month, which is a pleasant occurance any time it happens. The money made from Living Today certainly helped in our successful month, making $1,300,624 in the end. A number of releases have recently taken place within the TNA, with some big names having to be let go. With the recent focus on those superstars signed to written contracts, D'Lo Brown has been left out of more shows than he would have liked. With no immediate plans to change that situation, D'Lo accepted a release from his contract after the last show. D'Lo left on good terms and there is the possibility of bringing him back in the future. Another man with Japanese commitments preventing him from signing a written contract Ekmo has also accepted a release due to lack of air time. The decision was made easier by Sonny Saiki's recent success in singles action. Also released were Chavo Guerrero Senior, who a use for could not really be found...and Vampiro, who was sick and tired of waiting for his turn in the spotlight. We wish all four men luck in their immedate future, and leave the door open for the future. In the meantime, two replacements have been found for the roster. Former WWE Tag Team Champion and OVW staleward Doug Basham completed talks with us on Sunday night, accepting a written contract for $31,000. To sign such a promising star to a written contract is good news for us, and we're happy to have Doug on board. The immediate plan is to hook him up with someone to carry the talking aspect of his game and help him develop. The other signing is another former WWE wrestler Matt Morgan. He signs with us on an open for just $15,000 per appearance...and will make unregular appearances for us...the first probably being the Quest For The Gold match. Being on an open contract, Morgan accepts he will not see much air time at the present time, but wants to join a company that can help him improve. On the staff end of hirings, two more ex WWEers join...this time, both referees. After the WWE's recent staff culling, both Brian Hebner and Mike Chioda were delighted to sign with the NWA:TNA so quickly. They'll make their refereeing debuts on the next episode of XPlosion. We're pleased with XPlosion so for in the graveyard slot...the first week with the later time getting the highest rating Urban America has had in that time range ever. Last week's show also provided a high viewing figure...although, not high in terms of other shows and companies, it is high for the channel itself. We're still in talks with other channels about gaining a second T.V show. WGN have been contacted, and they will consider our application...with an announcement expected at the end of the month. Recently impressing staff have been Ron Killings and Sonny Saiki. Their feud is heating up with both solid interviews and great matches, and both should do well in the coming months. February's Top 10 NWA Champion: Jeff Jarrett Jarrett retained his title at Living For Today, in the process defeating D'Lo Brown, Raven and AJ Styles. Since then, his only action saw him pinned by AJ Styles...but he's still the Champion. 1: AJ Styles Pinfall victories over Abyss and over the NWA Champion himself put AJ Styles at #1 in the rankings, and as such he's the number one contender...getting his title shot at Quest For The Gold. 2: Raven A solid month for Raven. Two victories over Legend, plus the handicap match victory...Raven is not out of the hunt for Jeff Jarrett yet, and should be a favourite for the Quest For The Gold Match. 3/4: Chris Harris and James Storm Joint placing for the 4 time NWA Tag Champions. They won the belts at Living For Today, and since then have been unbeaten, defending the belts victoriously against Kyo Dai 5: Paul London Fell in the six man tag match to Kid Kash. A big pinfall victory over Chris Sabin however followed, before he managed to win the X-Division #1 Contendership battle royal. He'll be going to Quest For The Gold to meet Sabin again. 6: Sonny Saiki After the impressive draw with Ron Killings, Saiki landed a victory over AAA legend The Latin Lover...and also became a thorn in Ron Killings' side. 7: Kid Kash Pinned Paul London in the six man tag match at Living For Today, and got to the last two of the X-Division battle royal. Couldn't prevent Styles and Raven winning the handicap match though. 8: The Amazing Red A great victory over K-Ness at Living For Today puts him in the top 10. Not been seen since due to Japanese commitments, but remains an NWA favourite. 9: Rene Dupree Debut victory over Julio Dinero was very impressive. A big future awaits. 10: Chris Sabin Was pinned by Paul London, and his only T.V win of the month came against Ron Killings under Sonny Saiki's 'unfair' refereeing. Still holds the X-Division Title however, and a place in the top 10. Lightning Flik 0 Report post Posted February 6, 2004 Ok... I must admit. I'm shocked. No, I'm flipping stunned. Raven and Legend had a good match. Nice call on that one. You're setting things up nicely C. I like where it is going and can't wait for the next show!

You're setting things up nicely C. I like where it is going and can't wait for the next show! Thanks Flik. And yeah, Legend is SHOCKINGLY good on this RaveX update. I think he started out at #4 heel...but the match quality is the big surprise. Saiki's kinda the same, only less shockingly.
King Cucaracha 0 Report post Posted February 6, 2004 NWA:TNA XPlosion Preview Quest For The Gold is slowly coming up ever closer on the NWA:TNA’s horizon, and the entire roster knows a place in the Quest For The Gold Match is their ticket towards a possible NWA Title shot. Tension is running high amongst those already officially entered into the match. But this week on XPlosion, three men will have to earn their ways into the match. The first two of those three will do so in tag team action. Kyo Dai and The New Church, two teams with high prospects in the tag team division, have been told they must qualify to win into the match itself. So, they will do battle with the winners advancing into the Quest For The Gold match, and the losers seeing a possible shot at the NWA Title evaporate. The third man having to qualify is Raven. Don Callis has wielded his power to force Raven into action this week…and he MUST win to get into the Quest For The Gold Match. His opponent…or, to be more accurate, opponents are recent nemesis Abyss and Kid Kash. They are the only named entrants into the Quest For The Gold currently besides Ron Killings and Sonny Saiki…so do not have to win to qualify. But beating Raven will keep him out of the running…and that’s what Callis wants. Plus, on the subject of the Quest For The Gold Match, NWA:TNA will welcome back into the NWA fold the managerial NWA legend Jim Cornette…and he has promised to bring a ‘friend’ into the NWA:TNA with him. This ‘friend’ has been entered into the 30 man battle, and with Jim Cornette behind has to be considered a favourite. Also on the show, the number one contender has stated he intends to call Jeff Jarrett out to the ring during the course of the show. Will the NWA Champion respond, and what carnage will result if he does? And in the other match of the night Paul London and Chris Sabin, set to meet at Quest For The Gold, will be on opposing teams in a six man tag team match. Sabin’s partners will be Legend and Northcutt, Red Shirt Security…London’s partners being the current NWA Tag Team Champions the America’s Most Wanted. Can London score a second pinfall over the X-Division Champ ahead of their one on one meeting, or will Sabin possibly be able to return the favour?

Then again, I feel Northcutt deserves to get higher ratings (after hearing Laza bust a nut over him in the match against AJ) Well, Siaki is actually pretty good. Or so I've heard. So it's only fair that he gets pretty good stats.
Guest Real F'n Show Report post Posted February 6, 2004 good show, but Matt Morgan?!
Guest ToddRoyal Report post Posted February 7, 2004 Good show, and I've actually liked Legend since the "Just Joe" days, so yay for him getting respect. Interesting to see who Corny brings in. Should be good. The six man for the next show sounds good too, so keep up the good work.
King Cucaracha 0 Report post Posted February 7, 2004 good show, but Matt Morgan?! Well, I've just realised I can't use Red, Skipper, Punk, Spanky or Low Ki for the Quest For The Gold match...so I need some temporary cover. And his wage is really small considering. The next show should be up in the next day or so...providing I don't start my Wildchild (SWF) match early.
King Cucaracha 0 Report post Posted February 7, 2004 Forget next day or so...here's the show! NWA:TNA XPlosion 6th March 2004 Live from the TNA Asylum, in Nashville Tennesee Commentators: ‘The Professor’ Mike Tenay and ‘TNA Chief Executive’ Don Callis No sooner than the smoke from the PYRO~! has settled to kick off the show, and the music of Kyo Dai hits. As they make their way to the ring, Mike Tenay and Don Callis are at ringside ready to call the action. Tenay- Welcome to XPlosion! We're live from Nashville, and ready to kick off the show with some early action. Callis- Mike, with Quest For The Gold less than a month away, tension is running high. And, who better than me to exploit that for ratings...exactly what I've done tonight. Tenay- So that's why Raven's got the deck stacked against him tonight? Ratings? Callis- Well...no, I just plain don't like him. But this opening match...this is all about Quest For The Gold tension. Quest For The Gold Qualifying Match Kyo Dai (Yang and Sakoda) vs The New Church (Sinn and Slash) w/James Mitchell Not the best of starts. Sinn is not over. Sakoda is not over. Slash and Yang therefore had to try and carry this match as best as possible. Not to mention this was heel versus heel, which doesn't usually go down well. Yang was on good form tonight, but the other three less so. That said, it wasn't a bad match. Just...not very good. Yang and Sakoda seemingly played the heel role more than the New Church, but there was no orthodox hot tag. Instead a four man brawl broke out from nowhere. Yang landed a plancha on Slash, as meanwhile Sakoda and Sinn brawled in the ring. Sakoda hit a big time sidewalk slam on Sinn and went for the cover. James Mitchell suddenly jumped to the apron, and Sakoda was distracted...allowing Slash to roll in, and nail the Slash and Burn! The cover got three, and The New Church win through to the Quest For The Gold. Winners and qualifiers: The New Church by pinfall (Slash over Sakoda) in 7:03 3/4* (50, 32, 69) Notes: Akio debuted his new gimmick (Martial Arts), it got a positive response. Sakoda debuted his new gimmick (Enforcer), it got a positive response. Sinn debuted his new gimmick (Psycho), it got a positive response. Slash debuted his new gimmick (Psycho), it got a positive response. James Mitchell debuted his new gimmick (Weirdo). Tenay- A victory for The New Church...and they'll get a shot in the Quest For The Gold Match...but for Kyo Dai, that dream is gone. Callis- Don't feel too bad for them Mike...I had a little surprise I didn't tell those four about.... Tenay- A surprise? Callis- Yeah, a surprise. Slash and Sinn are in the Quest For The Gold...but the losers of the match have got themselves a Tag Title shot at Quest For The Gold in their contract. Tenay- And you didn't tell them that... Callis- Of course not. It's a surprise...you know, keep everyone happy. Tenay- Yeah, except the AMW who are now out of the Quest For The Gold Match. You're too much Don... Tenay is suddenly cut off, as AJ Styles' music hits, to a big pop from the crowd. Angrily the number one contender, with stiches clearly visable on his forehead, enters the ring and takes a microphone. Styles- Jarrett...you know why I'm out here. I'm out here because last week you saw fit to smash me in the face with your NWA Title belt. I've got 6 stitches in my god damn head because of you...but that will be nothing compared to the work the docs will have to do to you after I get done at Quest For The Gold! The crowd pop. Styles- But you know what...Jeff, I'm an impatient man. And those doctors need a little work to do. So...how about you bring your ass out here and face me in the ring like a man! Again the crowd cheer, as Styles waits. A few seconds pass, before finally Jarrett's music hits and the NWA Champion cautiously walks down the aisle. Styles however doesn't want to wait, rolling from the ring and attacking Jarrett on the rampway!!! Jarrett is in trouble as Styles attacks like a madman, throwing him into the steel railings as he moves Jarrett towards the ring. Jarrett eventually gets away and rolls into the ring, Styles following. Jarrett suddenly unwraps his title belt from his waist, waiting on Styles. As he rolls in, Jarrett swings with the belt...AJ ducks...and nails a superkick! Quickly Styles grabs the championship belt and look to nail Jarrett. Jeff however ducks the belt shot, and boots Styles in the gut. Pulling Styles in, Jarrett hoists him in the air...STYLES CLASH BY JARRETT!!! The crowd boo, as Jarrett laughs away to himself at what he just did. Styles is laid flat out, as Jarrett yells something towards him, before grabbing his belt and leaving the ring again. After a minute or so, the angry Styles storms out of the ring and to the back, obviously wanting some more of Jarrett. OR: 75 Callis- Will AJ Styles ever learn? You don't...mess...with Jeff. Tenay- Well Jarrett has got some physcological advantage now over Styles for sure, heading into Quest For The Gold. Callis- Certainly. Not to menton the wrestling advantage. Tenay- I wouldn't go that far... Tenay is interrupted again, as the curtains ripple and onto the stage appears...Jim Cornette! Upon seeing him the crowd start up a "Cornette" chant. Cornette- First of all I wanna thank ya'll for that welcome...it's great to be back in the NWA, the place where I have so many great memories of. It's nice to know you fans still have a little respect for me... Cheers from the crowd. Cornette- And that makes my decision to come back to my first home even more of a sweet one. But tonight I'm not out here to reminise about the past. The reason I'm back...it's to concentrate on the future. To continue my legacy in another century, in front of another generation. See, tonight I promised to introduce you all to the future NWA Champion of the world and that's exactly what I'm going to do. This man is a man I know very well, a man I have seen develop through his short career personally. I've been in this business for longer than I care to remember, and I've managed many men. I've helped Yokozuna to the WWF Championship, Owen Hart to his first WWF gold, The Midnight Express to NWA immortality, and right now helping The Briscoe Brothers remain the Ring of Honor Tag Team Champions. But this man, in my opinion, can surpass those accomplishments. Ladies and gentlemen, get ready for the future of the NWA...as I present my latest protegé... “THE MACHINE”… ...DOUG... ...BASHAM!!! The crowd give Basham a mixed reaction, as he walks out from the back and shakes hands with Cornette. With an intense look he raises his arms in the air, with Cornette watching on smiling and applauding. OR: 82 Notes: Doug Basham debuted his new gimmick (No Gimmick Needed), it got a positive response. Doug Basham gained overness from this segment. Jim Cornette gained overness from this segment. Tenay- Can you believe that...Doug Basham!?! What a coo for Jim Cornette. Callis- And with Cornette's backing I wouldn't bet against Basham winning the Quest For The Gold Match and...well...I'd bet against him beating Jeff of course. Tenay- Or Styles... Callis- Mike, give it a rest...Styles cannot, should not and will not beat Jarrett! Six Man Tag Team Match Paul London and NWA Tag Team Champions America's Most Wanted (James Storm and Chris Harris) vs NWA X-Division Champion Chris Sabin and Red Shirt Security (Legend and Kevin Northcutt) A re-run of February 14th's main event, only with the Red Shirts replacing Kyo Dai...and also a chance to put London and Sabin in action before Quest For The Gold. A decent enough match, but a slightly lethargic crowd too. London started with Legend, but of course wanted some of Chris Sabin. Much like February 14th, the match revolved around the AMW and their tag team opposition, this time being the Red Shirts. Legend looked impressive again...he's been on top form recently, and put on the best matches of his career. Finally London got into the ring, and cleared house, which the crowd weren't as excited about as you'd hope they'd be. Eventually, as the AMW and the Red Shirts dealt with each other, Sabin and London were left to brawl. London hit a beautiful hurricanrana, and quickly went to the top rope...but got shoved off by Legend, landing throat first across the top rope. Sabin quickly rolled London into a pin...grabbing the ropes for leverage, to steal a cheap pinfall victory! Winners: Chris Sabin and Red Shirt Security by pinfall (Sabin over London) in 12:47 ** (67, 56, 78) Callis- And Sabin gets his win back! Tenay- With use of the ropes we might add! Callis- Ah, the ropes are there to be used Mike. Tenay- Not illegally they're not! And Sabin used the ropes illegally. What are you going to do about that, Mr Chief Executive? Callis- Hey, the referee's decision is final. What can I do? Except remind you what's next of course. Raven against Kid Kash and Abyss... Tenay- Raven HAS to win to get into the Quest For The Gold Match! Can he overcome the odds? ***MAIN EVENT*** Handicap Match, Quest For The Gold Qualification (Raven must win to qualify) Raven vs Kid Kash and Abyss As handicap matches go, this was top notch. Abyss and Kash having to tag in and out helped the flow of the match, and allowed Raven room to look strong for parts of the match. It was nearly over right at the beginning of the match, as Raven came close to Evenflowing Kash. However, he escaped. Abyss wore Raven down, Kash coming in sporadically when Abyss needed a rest. Raven however caught Kash with a snap Evenflow, which would have got the win had Abyss not broke the count. Raven quickly fought both men off, knocking Abyss to the outside eventually…before catching Kash coming off the top rope with a Complete Shot for a desperate cover…and a three count! Raven will advance to the Quest For The Gold Match! Winner and qualified: Raven by pinfall in 10:11 **1/4 (72, 66, 79) Tenay- Raven beats the odds!!! Raven beats the odds…and advances to the Quest For The Gold Match! Callis- Damnit…how did that happen!?! Tenay- Raven beat Kid Kash and Abyss, and you wouldn’t bet against Raven going on to win it all! That’s all we’ve got time for…we’ll see you all next week…goodbye! OR: 69- Down on the last two weeks...the opening match let this show down. Doug Basham and Jim Cornette debuting got the highest rated segment...the other two matches were solid, and Jarrett's confrontation with Styles went down well. King Cucaracha 0 Report post Posted February 8, 2004 NWA:TNA XPlosion Preview Quest For The Gold is now just two weeks away, and things are hotting up in the NWA:TNA. This coming week on XPlosion sees three Pay Per View quality matches which will no doubt have a big bearing on Quest For The Gold itself. The main event, signed by Chief Executive Don Callis, will feature the number one contender AJ Styles taking on TNA Management member Kid Kash. Sure to be a high flying encounter of the highest order, this promises to be a great match...and heated too, as Kash will no doubt be given instructions to weaken Styles ahead of his World Title shot in two weeks, but Styles will be just as determined to send a message to Jarrett. Having already pinned Jarrett, and beaten Abyss, Styles will be in high hopes ahead of the match...but will have to be wary of the other TNA Management representitives. Ahead of the 30 man Quest For The Gold Match, a tag team match featuring three of the entrants will see Sonny Saiki and TNA debuting Doug 'The Machine' Basham taking on Ron Killings and the man who has an X-Division Title shot at Quest For The Gold Paul London. Saiki and Killings will be sure to renew their heated rivalry, while the debutant Doug Basham will be looking to prove himself to the world...and Paul London will also be looking to prove himself to Chris Sabin. And the NWA Tag Team Championships will be put on the line as the current champions The America's Most Wanted defend against The New Church. Slash and Sinn were reportedly unhappy that by winning their match last week they missed out on a Tag Team Title shot...so, to appease them, they have been given the first shot this week. A win would mean them having to pull double duty at Quest For The Gold, due to already being entered into the 30 man Quest For The Gold Match...but first they have to overcome the AMW, which will be far from easy. Guest ToddRoyal Report post Posted February 8, 2004 Good show, and I'm liking the buildup to Quest for the Gold. Everyone having to overcome odds just to get to the match is a nice touch. Next show looks good too, and Styles/Kash should be a really good match.

King Cucaracha 0 Report post Posted February 9, 2004 NWA:TNA XPlosion 13th March 2004 Live from the TNA Asylum, in Nashville Tennesee Commentators: ‘The Professor’ Mike Tenay and ‘TNA Chief Executive’ Don Callis The opening pyro dies down to cheers aplenty from the Nashville faithful, as XPlosion is back on the air on another late Saturday night. Mike Tenay and Don Callis are at ringside as ever... Tenay- Welcome to another edition of NWA:TNA XPlosion live from Nashville. Mike Tenay alongside Don Callis... Callis- Mike...hush yourself. Tonight on XPlosion, Kid Kash will take on AJ Styles in a match that will hopefully prove once and for all...AJ Styles is not World Title material. Tenay- And you've put Kid Kash in a little trouble tonight Don... Callis- Oh no, I haven't. I mean yes, if Kid Kash gets pinned tonight he's out of Quest For The Gold. But...I see it more encouragement for Kash than putting someone in trouble. Tenay- Well...besides that, Doug Basham makes his in-ring NWA:TNA debut in tag team action...but first up, the Tag Team Championships will be on the line. NWA Tag Team Championships America's Most Wanted (James Storm and Chris Harris)© vs The New Church (Sinn and Slash) w/James Mitchell This was much better than it had any right to be. The crowd were firmly behind the AMW and they dominated the first half of the match with their superior tag team ability. Sinn took the brunt of the offense, before Slash managed to tag out...only for Slash to then get isolated. Eventually The New Church started to fight back, Sinn almost getting three off a flying sunset flip. The end came from nowhere...as Sinn and Slash double teamed James Storm, Harris tried to help which distracted Brian Hebner. Slash was quickly passed the cane by Mitchell, and Slash took a moment to shoot the fireball from it...allowing Storm to move! Sinn collapsed holding his eyes, as Storm clotheslined Slash...and nailed the Eight Second Ride on Sinn to get the 1..2..3 count. As the AMW left with their titles, Slash tried to help Sinn up...as James Mitchell entered the ring, and started chastising Sinn for losing. As the tirade continued, Sinn suddenly lost it, shoving Mitchell down! Slash shoved Sinn, but Sinn quickly booted his tag team partner in the gut and PILEDROVE him to the mat! The crowd went crazy, suddenly cheering Sinn as he angrily left the ring alone. Winners and still NWA Tag Champions: America's Most Wanted by pinfall (Storm over Sinn) in 5:40 *3/4 (67, 60, 74) Notes: Sinn's turn was completed, and he is now a face. Sinn gained overness from this turn. The NWA Tag Team titles have gained in image. Tenay- I guess that's the last we'll see of the New Church as a team! Callis- You think? Tenay- Ha ha...in any event...right now, standing backstage is Scott Hudson and he's with the NWA X-Division Champion... We cut backstage to the interview area, where Chris Sabin is indeed standing by with Scott Hudson. Hudson- Chris Sabin, you've requested this time... Sabin- Save it Scott. You know why I'm here. Paul London. That's why. Now, last week on XPlosion you and everyone else saw me beat London one...two...three in the middle of that ring. For weeks I've been hearing all about how Paul London is better than me...that he beat me. Well now...we're even Paul. So at Quest For The Gold, when you and I go one on one for my X-Division Title...you're going to have to remember that you are far from unbeatable. I've got the advantage going in...and I'm going to have the belt when I walk out. When it's all said and done...you're going to have to do exactly what every other failed challenger I've left in my tracks has had to do...and that's Hail to Sabin. OR: 42 In another part of the backstage area we see the number one contender AJ Styles walking backstage, when suddenly he turns a corner and bumps into...Raven! The two exchange a wary look, as Styles looks over Raven shoulder cautiously. Raven- Looking for something? Styles- Err...yeah. Listen buddy, I'd love to stay and talk but it's just...Jeff told me to meet him here, to sort something out... Raven- Jarrett? Here? Styles- Yeah...why? Raven- I was told to come here by Jarrett too...what the hell is he pla... Styles- *BEEP*, watch out!!! Styles suddenly shoves Raven aside...AND GETS SMASHED WITH A GUITAR SHOT!!! Raven suddenly gets up, as Jeff Jarrett moves forward...and the two begin exchanging right hands. Raven quickly gains the advantage, but no sooner than he has, Abyss and Kid Kash appear from behind him and attack! All three TNA Management men stomps away on Raven, before suddenly Abyss shoves them aside and grabs a steel chair! Jarrett laughs, Kash picking Raven up...STEEL CHAIR SHOT BY ABYSS!!! Raven and Styles have both been left laying...as the TNA Management trio slowly leave laughing away to themselves at the damage they've caused. OR: 71 Notes: Abyss gained overness from this segment. Callis- Well...that was an unexpected treat... Tenay- Damn it Don! AJ Styles and Raven just got sneak attacked by your boys, and that's all you can say? Callis- No...I can say a lot more. Like 'it's about damn time'. Tenay- Thi...you...god, let's just get on with the next match. Tag Team Match 'The Truth' Ron Killings and Paul London vs Sonny Siaki and 'The Machine' Doug Basham w/Trinity and Jim Cornette Four of the biggest future stars of NWA:TNA’s ‘Revolution’ in my opinion…luckily, they put on a solid match. Cornette and Trinity’s interaction on the outside was humorous and kept the crowd entertaining when at a couple of times the match slowed down. London was shoved into the Ricky Morton role for this one, taking some heavy punishment from the heels through the match. The crowd were slowly growing restless…just in time for Killings tagging in, which brought them right back to life. Killings took out Basham quickly, before targeting Saiki…which left London to deal with Basham. As he did so, the referee got caught up with first Killings/Saiki, and then Cornette…in which time, Chris Sabin suddenly ran down the aisle. London ran to the ropes…but got nailed in the back with the X-Division Title belt! Quick as a flash Basham nailed a leg lariat and made the cover…Cornette jumping from the apron to allow Chioda to count the three…just before Killings could break the pin. As soon as the match ended, Killings got blind-sighted by Saiki! Saiki stomped away on the fallen Killings, as Sabin leapt in to stomp on London. Shrugging, Basham joined in the assault on Killings before referees quickly ran down to break the fights up. Winners: Sonny Saiki and Doug Basham by pinfall in 12:24 **3/4 (74, 65, 84) Tenay- Why does Chris Sabin have to come out here and attack Paul London? Is he scared of a fair fight or something? Callis- Of course not… Tenay- Then why is he interfering in London’s business and hitting him with that X-Division belt? Callis- Can we just get on with the main event and leave all these questions for another week? Tenay- Not like you to avoid questions Don. Callis- ...AJ Styles and Kid Kash up next. ***MAIN EVENT*** (If Kid Kash gets pinned/submits, he's out of Quest For The Gold Match) 'The Phenomenon' AJ Styles vs Kid Kash You're not going to see too many better free T.V matches this month than this one. Fast paced, high impact...this one had one hell of a lot. Kash played his role of under pressure heel to perfection, Styles was consistent as ever too...selling the attack from earlier well for good measure. Both men exchanged chain wrestling counters beautifully to begin with, the high impact moves creeping in towards the middle. Kash worked the neck for long parts of the match to the point that Styles's head seemed to be hanging by a thread at points. As both men slowed down from exhaustion, Kash was able to hit a boot and hit the Money Maker...only for Styles to kick out at two to a HUGE pop. Minutes later Kash attempted a springboard hurricanrana, but it was blocked and countered into the Styles Clash. Styles covered...but at 2, Jeff Jarrett rolled in from nowhere and broke the count. Mark Johnson called for the DQ... ...as Jarrett continued to attack Styles. As he stomped away, Kash slowly recovered and joined in, the beatdown continuing on despite referees and officials trying to help out. Winner: AJ Styles by disqualification in 15:04 ***3/4 (79, 72, 87) Tenay- For God's sake stop this! You...you knew about this didn't you! Callis- Who...me? Tenay- Yeah you! Kash could only be eliminated from the Quest For The Gold Match if he was pinned or submitted...but you knew that wouldn't happen. Callis- Mike, one of these days that mouth of yours is going to get you in some serious trouble...just like 'AJ'. Tenay- Another TNA Management ruse...and finally Jarrett's being pulled away. What the hell is going to happen next week...Jeff seems determined to take Styles out before Quest For The Gold, and until then this situation is just going to escalate. We'll see you next week! OR: 68- An impressive show…apart from when Chris Sabin got the mic. Attendance: 3006 T.V Rating : 0.
King Cucaracha 0 Report post Posted February 9, 2004 Post Event News Solid show again...except for Chris Sabin's disappointing interview. Sabin was seemingly unhappy at how it came off himself...but these things happen. Besides that, we've been shaping up well recently ahead of Quest For The Gold...and the T.V ratings have been surprisingly good for our time slot. No news on the impending T.V deal yet...however, all the signs apparantly seem positive. Fingers crossed. Another big signing for us...NWA legend Barry Windham has accepted a written contract with us for $45,000 a month. It's thought he'll fit in to D'Lo Brown's vacant position near the top of the card, his NWA legacy a big selling point for us. And, we're pleased to announce that Matt Bloom, known to most by the moniker 'A-Train' in the WWE, is set to sign with the company in 3 months when his current contract comes to an end. Seen as a very underrated big man with personality to match, we expect Bloom to play a big part in our rise to Global status, and are very happy to have him aboard. Despite those two big signings, we're still in talks with a number of big names. Hulk Hogan is unsurprisingly high on our list, but his price range is just as unsurprisingly high which is a major stumbling point currently. Same too for Al Snow on the price situation. Jushin Liger is also high on our target list. His tag team partner Takehiro Murahama has yet to debut, and it's thought Liger would help his partner's overness...however, Liger would not be prepared to sign a written contract, which is almost a must now for us. The same problem hampers our recent talks with 2 Cold Scorpio and Masahiro Chono.
