PROMO: Conflict of Interest

"Hahaha."

The laugh of “The Notorious” John Duran is heard before we actually see the Notorious One, his black hair getting long and in the beginning stages of draping over his eyes. Several flourescent light fixtures move over his head and pass him, as he seems to be walking down a hallway. The image is shaky, however, and one can barely see that Duran's left arm is actually jutted out, indicating that he's hauling around a handheld camera as he sneers into it.

"You'll have to excuse the bad camerawork, but I'm trying to do this myself so I don't have to deal with our wonderful cameramen on staff."

Duran lets another chuckle loose as he continues walking.

"My fellow SWF compadres, it's Christmastime in January. Could any of you imagine my face when I saw the other 19 men that would be entering the big battle royale with me, in no particular order?"

John suddenly turns and a ding is heard as elevator doors open off-camera and Duran steps through, revealing the now-closing doors behind him. The sneer on John's face doesn't disappear as he turns around, revealing the elevator wall behind him. John presses a button and the elevator dings again before he continues.

"Oh, don't be fooled, I'm more than elated that Dace Night and that big dumb beast Terrence Bailey are entered in the match. But I'm more focused on another entry."

Another ding. Duran walks through the opening doors of the elevator and arrives in what is assumed to be the lobby, on the ground floor.

“Number 20,” the Notorious One adds without looking into the camera, “or, to be specific, Charlie Matthews.”

Duran pushes a door open, and almost as soon as he steps into the night, the snow begins to fall all around him.

“Every man for himself,” Duran speaks, his breath clearly visible. “We all have our goals, Charlie. The Unnamed has a group cause, but every once in a while we have to look out for ourselves. And I'm trying to deal with this problem that's facing me.”

Duran reaches into his pockets and the jingling of keys can be heard off-camera as he presses a button and the beeping of his rental car is faint under the swirling winds.

“You know about Randy,” Duran continues, each word sounding bitter now, “hell, who doesn’t anymore? My quest to be remembered as someone infinitely better than him begins now.”

John opens the car door and steps inside, the camera once again shaking as John quickly closes the door to keep the snow and the cold, cold wind out.

“It didn’t begin with your brainwashing buddy Quiz,” Duran points out, as a click of the key in the ignition starts up the car, the heat coming out of the vents. “No, it begins right here in Cleveland. And I have a feeling it’ll begin with you, Charlie. It's about time our paths crossed again, isn't it?”

Finally, Duran stares into the lens of the camera, with a blank look that certainly matches the weather outside.

“Every man for himself, Charlie. I’ll do my best not to hurt you too badly.”

A broad, confident smile crosses John’s face. “After all, what good is a group if we can’t stick together?”

The image shakes one more time before it goes to black on Duran’s smug face.

On one hand, I want to say you probably could've been a little more subtle in building tension between Duran and the rest of the Unnamed, but on the other hand, I remembered the fact that Duran and Grap had a big feud in the JL before they were bumped. So, in that sense, Duran being uncomfortable trying to be buddy-buddy with Matthews makes perfect sense.

So... uh... shit, I forget what point I inteded to make, so I'll just say this is Perfectly Acceptable Promoage.

I know I blew the subtleties out the window there, but yes, I don't think some people who didn't read JL shows know that I did have that feud with Grappler.

I doubt that people will reach the point of the Fuck match where Duran and Grappler have a meeting, but that's not my problem.
