PWG ''Taste The Radness'' Feb 22 Santa Ana CA

Recommended Posts

Here is the new PWG press release from SoCalUncensored.com:

"By Silverback, PWG Staff Writer

Yosemite, California - At the "Tango & Cash Invitational" Pro Wrestling Guerrilla (http://www.prowrestlingguerrilla.com) was crowned the Professional Wrestling "King Of Cola," and then used our new title to crown the first ever PWG Tag Team Champions, B-Boy & Homicide! For those fans that may have missed the two greatest days of wrestling this universe has ever seen, PWG invites them to come "Taste The Radness" on Sunday, February 22, 2004 at the Santa Ana Elks Lodge! PWG's next live event will feature 7 titanic matches, including:

• Puma vs. Charles Mercury - After aligning himself with the Aerial Express, Charles Mercury has a new found self confidence that he previously lacked, a self confidence that enables him to take on seemingly insurmountable challenges, challenges such as defeating international superstar Puma in single competition. Puma, on the other hand, does not need the self confidence provided by teaming with ruffians and scalawags. He has the self confidence provided by years of training with some of the finest fighters and wrestlers in the world, which logic dictates would be enough to overcome any challenge presented by young Mercury. However, what tricks may Charles have up his sleeveless shirt sleeves?

• Havana Pitbulls vs. Sal & Vito Thomaselli - Both of these teams had impressive showings at the "Tango & Cash Invitational," but unfortunately for them, were eliminated early on the second day of the tournament. However, a more interesting development occurred backstage, when the Pitbulls and the Thomasellis began to argue about which mother country had more culinary depth, Cuba or Italy? Frituritas de Malanga or Spaghetti & Meatballs? Havana Pitbulls or The Thomasellis? Whose cuisine will reign supreme?!

• Samoa Joe vs. Shannon Ballard - It is a little known fact that the entire US-Iraqi Military conflict was started not by the invasion of a small neighboring nation, but by an errant back swing during a golf outing with Former Presidents George Bush & Saddam Hussein in the late 1980's. As Hussein was warming up, he drew his club back, not expecting someone to walk in his way. Someone did, and that someone was George Bush, who was struck in the face by the club, knocked unconscious, and ultimately lost a tooth! In a strange coincidence, Samoa Joe & Shannon Ballard, long time friends and even training partners in professional wrestling, are now at war with one another, when Samoa Joe's golf club of tyranny, his foot, planted itself firmly in the face of Democracy, Shannon Ballard's face! Don't expect to see Shannon Ballard's son coming along to finish this job some 10 years later, these men are prepared to settle their dispute on February 22!

• S.B.S. (Formerly Team Chismo; Super Dragon, Excalibur & Disco Machine) vs. Aerial Express (Scorpio Sky, Quicksilver & Chris Bosh) - Like a Guns N' Roses documentary, the feud between SBS and the AXP has seen it's share of violence, profanity, and debauchery, with violence and profanity leading the way. Originally, this battle was between Excalibur & Chris Bosh, but Quicksilver & Scorpio Sky, finding that their discontent had grown to proportions previously unknown to man, took advantage of a situation provided by Bosh to lash out at the entire PWG organization by attacking Excalibur. Not ones to stand back while their friend gets assaulted, Disco Machine & Super Dragon rushed to Excalibur's aid, but unknowingly provided the spark to the powder keg of hatred, which was seated on the cart of wrath, pulled by the donkey of anger! The fuse is burning down and once the donkey cart explodes, who will survive?

• American Dragon vs. Bobby Quance - Like a fight between Darth Vader and Obi Wan Kenobi, this match is truly Teacher vs. Student. While Bobby Quance was a rookie, he received instruction and direction from American Dragon, but after American Dragon went off to sew his wild oats, Quance was left to drift aimlessly. Not for long, as fate would have it, because both men arrived at the New Japan Dojo at roughly the same time, continuing their training, increasing their knowledge of how to hurt people. American Dragon then went to Europe in order to learn the most effective way of placing another man's legs behind their own head (the red lightsabre,) while Bobby Quance went to Mexico and learned the way of the arm drag (the blue lightsabre.) In this meeting of electro-swordsmanship, there can be only one Highlander!

PWG Tag Team Championship

• B-Boy & Homicide © vs. X- Foundation (Scott Lost & Joey Ryan) - Anyone that accuses Pro Wrestling Guerrilla of playing favorites is a jerk. PWG co-owners Scott Lost & Joey Ryan lobbied to Commissioner Paul T that the inaugural title defense of the PWG Tag Team Titles should be one that reflects the honor and prestige these titles are deserving of. Paul T thought about that, then also thought about who signs his checks, and nominated the X-Foundation to be the first ever challengers! Lost & Ryan, shocked and overjoyed at the prospect of getting another chance to win the titles, immediately began preparing for this opportunity with many hours of meditation in a Tibetan temple. When notified of who would be the first challengers to their titles, B-Boy and Homicide collectively agreed "Man, f--- those stupid cracker a-- b------!" Strong words, and even stronger dashes. Will the X-Foundation have what it takes to claim the belts, or will B-Boy & Homicide's street wise natures be enough to overcome any challenge?

PWG Championship

No DQ Come-As-You-Are Chicago Street Fight

• "The Future" Frankie Kazarian © vs. "Scrap Iron" Adam Pearce - In the wild, when two majestic grizzly bears try to lay claim to the same territory, an earth shaking conflict undoubtedly will occur, often leaving one of the great beasts dead. Commissioner Paul T didn't really want to see Frankie Kazarian or Adam Pearce wind up dead, so he allowed the two men to compete in any sort of match they wanted, except the dreaded Death Match. Therefore, after lengthy consultation with manager and attorney, C. Edward Vanderpyle, Adam Pearce chose the second most deadly match known to man, the No Disqualification Come-As-You-Are Chicago Street Fight. Frankie Kazarian was eager to accept this match, since every time these two men have squared off, Kazarian has come away with the victory, but due to deftly execute underhanded tactics, Pearce walked out on top. Finally, Frankie Kazarian has the opportunity to face the head on assault of Adam Pearce, but what role with the No Disqualifications clause play? Will Frankie be able to concentrate and mount an effective offense, or will Pearce get the gold he has been after since day one?

Daaaaamn. I don't own a single PWG tape, but I'll have to start buying soon if they keep putting together matches like Danielson/Quance, which I am dying to see. Frankie Kazarian is still their Heavyweight champion though, and well... That's not good.

PWG is quickly becoming my personal favorite independent federation in the country alongside Ring of Honor. This show should be really good, Danielson vs. Quance, B-Boy/Homicide vs. X-Foundation, and the Team Chismo 6-Man should all be great, but I can't wait to get the tag tournament on video.

I agree. They are putting out some cards that rival or even surpass some of the Ring of Honor shows lately. Should be a great show. Now if only the midwest had some type of fed like this....

Ok, Since the show is this sunday, So I figured I'd SHILL PWG and bump this up and also give some thoughts and predictions! Now wouldn't that be fun?

Puma vs. Charles Mercury

Thoughts: They both wrestle similar styles so I think they will blend nicely and put on a fine lucha style match.

Prediction: PUMA

Havana Pitbulls vs. Thomaselli Brothers:

Thoughts: Sal/ Vito were very impressive at the Tango and Cash Invitational and they should have their work cut out for them against the internationally renowned Havana Pitbulls, who are always awesome in there. I think this will be the sleeper match of the show and it will surprise alot of people.

Prediction: Havana Pitbulls

Samoa Joe vs. Shannon Ballard:

Thoughts: Grudge match brought about after Samoa Joe knocked Ballard out at "Tango.." I don't think this will be a classic or anything but it should be alot of fun if the Ballards use heel tactics like the old twin mid-match switch off.

Prediction: Samoa Joe over both Ballards.

S.B.S (Super Dragon, Excalibur, Disco Machine) Vs. The AXP and Chris Bosh

Thoughts: The AXP/Bosh's feud against the PWG owners continues in what should be an insanly wild crazy wildly insane crazy intense 6-man war that will be crazy.

Prediction: AXP/Bosh pull the upset.

American Dragon vs. Bobby Quance:

Thoughts: If you know these workers this one more than speaks for itself. I can see this being similar to the great Danielson Vs. Paul London ROH matches only AD may know Quance even better than London since he played a part in training him. I really think this could be a MOTYC.

Prediction: American Dragon

B-Boy & Homicide Vs. X- Foundation (Joey Ryan/Scott Lost)

Thoughts: A Dream match that should an outstanding match as both are great teams, heck the newly formed team of B-Boy and Homicide work better together than alot of seasoned tag teams. Should be one to remember...

Prediction: B-Boy/Homicide (But I really wouldn't be surprised to see X-Foundation take this one)

No DQ Come-As-You-Are Chicago Street Fight

Frankie Kazarian © vs Adam Pearce

Backstory: this has been building since the Bad Ass Mother 3000 where Pearce unjustly lost to Joey Ryan and has been on a quest for the gold ever since. First he avenged his loss to Joey Ryan to win the 1# contendership, Then he was screwed out of his title shott by Paul T. So Pearce then took matters into his own hands and jumped Kazarian after a match in Nov which lead a 6-man tag in Dec where Pearce pinned and injuried Frankie after a piledriver on the title belt.. then Pearce layed down the challenge for a title match on Jan. 24th. In which Frankie proved himself to truly be the coolest man on earth by being the first wrestler in history to ever wrestle to a 20 minute time limit draw in only 16'19 (now that's cool!) but a draw wasn't good enough for Pearce who was still hungry for the gold. So after Frankie again sucussfully defended the belt against M-Dogg, Babi Slymm and Jonny Storm, Pearce ran out and brutalized Frankie as if he were a cop arresting Michael Jackson and then piledrove Frankie off the apron through a table! So the stage has been set Feb. 22, Adam Pearce Vs. Frankie Kazarian in a Street Fight for the PWG Title! Now that's drama!!

Prediction: Adam Pearce finally takes home the gold.

So there you go, should be an outstanding show top to bottom. So if in the area make an effort to check this out live as PWG live shows are always a blast. You never who Super Dragon may attack next!! It could be you!!

If not if the area.. then go to http://www.prowrestlingguerrilla.com/index2.html and buy one of PWG's many excellent DVD releases including the highly acclaimed "TANGO & CASH INVITATIONAL" tag tournament featuring Chris Hero, Messiah, American Dragon, Homicide, CM Punk, Chris Daniels, Havana Pitbulls, Samoa Joe, Jonny Storm and all the PWG regulars.

Other PWG news: It's been annouced that PWG will be running not 1 not 3 not 4 not 7 not 24 but TWO WHOLE SHOWS NEXT MONTH! on March 7th and 27th so make your travel arrangments now!

Guest Markingout

I agree B-Boy and Homicide do mix well. They look sort of the same and they wrestle the same style basically.

Dragon and Quance is going too be mind blowing. I just hope it gets the amount of time. I mark hard for AD, and the "shooting star".

And, KAZARIAN LOSES THE TITLE! Cool with me.

Also, we should get another awesome Samoa Joe update with his buddies crashing at his place.

I'm really looking forward to seeing how Danielson/Quance turns out. I haven't been blown away with the Quance stuff I have seen though that isn't to say he didn't look good in those matches. He looked real good, just not over the top great or anything. Though I'm still going with the assumption that he is better than I am giving him credit for based on the matches I have seen. Quance does seem to have some London-esque atrributes, so I am really interested to see how he matches up to Danielson compared to how London matched up against him.

Rest of the show looks real good, too.

Puma vs. Charles Mercury

Nice little opener, that delivered about what you'd expect from these two. Mercury seemed a little lost in the opening minutes, but Puma managed to hold the match together. Mercury quickly overcame that, and proved he's deserving of the push the SoCal 6 are giving him, despite being so new to the business. Puma once again proved why he's one of the most underrated indy stars in wrestling. Puma got the win with the tombstone.

Hardkore Kidd w/ El Jefe vs. Babi Slymm

Before the match, a guerilla ran around the ring trying to hand out a banana, but no one would take it.The real battle here, was Babi Slymm doing his best to keep from beating the shit out of a drunk Angry Fan who continually screamed shit like "Fuck you! Dragon's gonna kick your ass in March motherfucker! (Slymm/Dragon at Rev. Pro's next show for the title) SUPER DRAGON! *clap clap, clap clap clap*" etc. Slymm got on the mic and told him not only is he screaming about the wrong day, and the wrong opponent, but he's rambling on about the wrong promotion. He asked why the guy would be chanting Dragon's name, when he's in the back fucking his mother. Pretty funny stuff, despite how annoying the fan was. The match itself was nothing special, and was really only there to set up what would take place in the main event. Adam Pearce made the run in and hit the most devastating piledriver I've ever had the pleasure of witnessing, to give Kidd the win.

Samoa Joe vs. Shannon Ballard

I'll be the first to admit that I can not stand the Ballards. I honestly don't understand why they continue booking them. That said, this was much better then it had any right being, despite some of Shannon's mistakes. It's just hard to have a match focused on stiffness and brutality, when one of the workers looks scared every time he's about to be hit. Then again, I think watching Joe beat on a scared Shannon was the main reason I liked this match as much as I did. Shannon definitely did his share though, actually punching, elbowing, and forearming Joe throughout the match. This was seriously one of the stiffest matches I have ever seen. The finish came when Shannon brought in a chair and hit Joe, who took the chair from him and asked him if he's fucking stupid. The ref then got up as Shannon dropped and acted like Joe had just hit him with the chair, causing the DQ. I guess it's not just Mexicans who like to lie, cheat, and steal, but every North American country not named the United States.

Havana Pitbulls vs. The Thomasellis

If it weren't for AmDrag/Quance, this would easilly have been the MOTN. Just a beautiful display of tag team wrestling, on par with the Pitbulls/AXP that has been getting all the hype lately. The match revolved around the Pitbulls working over Vito's arm, while the Thomasellis worked over Ricky's knee(s). Pitbulls picked up the win, when Rocky hit Vito with a rollover into an armbar for the second time. I hope we get to see more of the Thomasellis, as they have really impressed the hell out of me.

S.B.S. (Formerly Team Chismo) vs. Aerial Express & Chris Bosh

This wasn't so much a great match, as it was an incredibly fun match. If you go into it expecting some technical masterpeice, you're going to be let down. All I know, is this was one of the funnest matches I've ever seen live.

AXP/Bosh had tremendous heat going into the match, and that quickly increased once Scorp got on the mic. He talked about how Disco Machine is the only one they actually respect, given the fact that he was their trainer. He talked about how he expected Dragon and Excaliber to forget where they came from, but not Disco. I liked that they hinted at a Disco turn, which everyone was expecting. He then talked about how much he hates "that racist motherfucker Excaliber". He said it was hilarious when Excaliber got kicked out of Revolution Pro, and watching him try to get his job back. He asked why they'd even think of letting him come back, when they already had Super Dragon. Which meant there was no need for them to book his wanna-be lacky. He then talked about how Super Dragon is treated like some sort of legend in SoCal, and how they all looked up to him when they started out in the business. But how now, he's just some has been who's standing in there way.

They also talked alot of shit about the East Coast, and that booking guys from the East Coast was their major problem with PWG. S.B.S. then came out and Excaliber grabbed the mic and said, "That was one of THE longest promos in the history of professional wrestling, and that's saying something. Well, here's my response... Fuck You, Fuck You, and Fuck You!".

The interaction between the two teams, as well as the interaction between the workers and the fans made this match. Little things like Scorpio saying "This one's for AWC (Rev. Pro's Owner), as he stomped his opponent. And Bosh continues to shock the hell out of me, since becoming a heel. Excaliber was especially hilarious, giving QuickSilver shit for using the snapmare into the stiff kicks (which Disco had already used a few times). "God, like we haven't seen that shit before. Here's an idea, come up with some fucking new moves asshole!" And later on, when put in the same submission he uses, he started screaming about how it was his move, and how bad it hurt actually being put in it for once.

The main story told throughout the match was Scorpio Sky avoiding wrestling Super Dragon at all costs. And when he did wrestle him, it was only when he had a clear advantage. The beauty of it was the fact that whenever Super Dragon would go for something big (Ex: The Violence Party), he'd quickly be double teamed by the two guys in the corner. It makes sense, after hearing Scorpio talk about how they looked at Dragon as an idol starting out, so they'd have obviously studied his all matches very closely. Bosh and Quicksilver even pulled Dragon off of giving Scorp the Violence Party, and proceeded to simultaniously his Dragon with a Violence Party of their own.

The finish came when Dragon finally hit the Psycho Driver on Scorpio, but the Guerilla at ringside pulled the ref out at two. Dragon got out and took off the mask, revealing Charles Mercury to no surprise. Dragon then beat Mercury into the back. This gave Bosh the chance to hit Excaliber with a fucking brutal J-Driller (or whatever Excaliber calls his variation), for the pin. They continued brawling after the match, and the Guerilla came running back out and nailed Super Dragon with the chair. He took off the mask, and this time it was TOPGUN TALWAR! The four of them beat Team Chismo down while Topgun cut a great promo on why he turned on his fellow SoCal Six members.

He explained that he had to return a plain ticket from his hometown in Arizona, after getting a call explaining that the shows were already filled. He explained how pissed that made him getting cut out of the promotion he helped start, just to make room for a bunch of overrated East Coast cocksuckers. I really like this turn, because it (i)makes sense, (ii)gives TopGun a reason to be on the shown, (iii)explains why AXP/Bosh continued working the shows despite hating PWG, (iv)makes this heel faction stronger by having one of the owners on their side, and (v)is a perfect fit fiven the attitude/history/style of TopGun and the faction. By this point, Super Dragon starts tossing chairs at all of their heads from outside the ring, and they begin tossing them back at him. Chaos and another big ass brawl ensues, with Joey Ryan and Scott Lost coming out to even the odds.

Ryan and Lost talk about how they weren't going to get involved in this feud, mainly because they couldn't stand cocksuckers like Super Dragon. But now that one of the SoCal Six has taken their side, it became their business. He challenged them to a 5 on 5 "Guerilla WarGames" match with Survivor Series rules (Read: Elimination) for the March 7th show, as long as Team Chismo agreed to team with them. Super Dragon took the mic, only to hand it to Excaliber and whisper into his ear. Excaliber said that as long as Scott and Joey could keep their dicks out of each other's asses long enough to have the match, then they were down.

After intermission

Commisioner Paul T. makes his way out, having returned from his "rice harvesting escapades" in Japan, with a huge announcement. He said they weren't planning on having a show March 7th (since they'll be having one on the 27th), but that they decided to have one since their special guests would be in town. He then announced that Osaka Pro's Jeremy Lopez, Tiger's Mask, Ebessan, and Kuishinbo Kamen would all be on the show, as well as his team Gurentai (NOSAWA/Masada).

Here's the matches announced:

Jeremy Lopez vs. Puma

Tiger's Mask vs. Bobby Quance

Ebessan vs. Kuishinbo Kamen in "The Holy Motherfucking Grail of Comedy Matches"

Gurentai vs. Havana Pitbulls

As well as the Guerrilla WarGames match that was set up before intermission. This is seriously shaping up to most likely be PWG's best show to date, and that's saying alot after shows like the Tango & Cash Invitational.

American Dragon vs. Bobby Quance

I knew this was going to be good, I just had no idea how good. I expected the match to revolve around Dragon's mat wrestling and submissions, with Quance getting in his highflying as hope spots. Had we gotten that, I doubt there would have been any reason to complain. It's a proven formula, that these two can work better then almost anyone. Instead, we got Quance pretty much keeping up with AmDrag move for move, hold for hold in a truly amazing match. I'm not going to go into much detail, because I know I'll end up rambling on forever (again). So I'll just say, even if you looked at the results of this show and saw absolutely nothing worth watching, you'd still be a fool not to get this show. Every wrestling fan owes it to themselves to see this match. AmDrag got the win with a cringe inducing modified abdominal stretch, in one of my favorite finishes in a while.

X-Foundation w/ SoCal Val vs. B-Boy & Homicide

This is the only match on the card that didn't at least live up to the expectations I had set for it. Not that it was a bad match, just that it was outclassed by not only the tag match earlier tonight, but by more then a dozen tag matches that went on in last month's tournament. That, and it had the task of follwing AmDrag/Quance, and the outcome was too predictable given Homicide's schedule, so I guess it was destined to be a letdown. I actually look forward to seeing it on tape, just to make sure all these factors weren't completely clouding my judgement. X-Foundation got the win when Joey reversed B-Boy's Shining Wizard into an inside cradle for the win. B-Boy and Homicide teased shaking their hands, only to walk away from the newly crowned champs.

Frankie Kazarian vs. Adam Pearce

I liked this match alot better then their match from night one of the Tango & Cash Invitational, which wasn't really a bad match at all. This was just the perfect mix of humor and hatred, which as become PWG's trademark of sorts. You'd think those two things would conflict, but they've somehow managed to blend them succesfully so far. This was a No DQ Chicago Style Streetfight, which went all over the Elk's Lodge. At one point a "fan" on crutched attacked Frankie with a crutch, and was helping Pearce from there on out. I'm not exactly sure who the guy is though.

Frankie eventually finds a football helmet and uses it to attack both Pearce and said gimp/fan/manager guy, until Pearce gets the helmet. He puts it on and hits a swandive headbutt with it in a nice spot. Then in the funniest moment of the night, Frankie grabs Pearce by the facemask and tosses him. The ref proceeds to throw a flag down in the ring, and call "Facemasking" on Frankie, who can't believe it. Frankie then pulls out a flag of his own, challenging the call to the delight of everyone.

After some more brawling, Pearce sets up a table next to the ring, and tries piledriving Frankie through it like last show. Frankie reverses it into the Wave of the Future through the table, in a great spot. After some more brawling Frankie looks like he's got the win, but Hardkore Kidd makes the save for Pearce. Babi Slymm comes out to even the score. Slymm and Kidd brawl through the chairs as Frankie and Pearce brawl in the ring. In the end, Pearce gets tosses Frankie off the top onto thumbtacks, and hits a frogsplash for the win.

I'm really looking forward to see what Pearce is going to do as World Champion. He's one of the best heels in wrestling today, and deserves the push he's been getting. Frankie proved he's much more then what everyone saw on TNA while champion, but there really wasn't anywhere for him to go.

Overall, another great night from PWG, from top to bottom. We got to see a great twist in the PWG vs. Anti-PWG feud, which sets up for what is sure to be a great match. We got to see a new champ crowned, and the finish to a great feud. And we got to see unbelievable matches from AmDrag/Quance and Cubanitos/Thomasellis. I can hardly believe there's going to be two shows next month, not to mention how stacked the show on the 7th is looking. Anyone who still hasn't checked out PWG, really needs to wake the hell up.

Sounds like another great show from Pro Wrestling Guerrilla. I'm not surprised that Bobby Quance and Bryan Danielson delivered the goods in their match, but I am kind of mad B-Boy and Homicide lost the titles so soon after winning them. Next month's show should be interesting because I haven't seen any of the Japanese talent.

The "Japanese Talent" is a little misleading. Jeremy Lopez is from Florida, Masada is from the Texas Wrestling Academy, NOSAWA is from Mexico and wrestles fairly regularly in the US, and Ebessan and Kamen are comedy wrestlers.

That's not to say they're not TALENTED, because Lopez was trained by Dean Malenko, Masada has had some good matches in ROH, and NOSAWA has had good matches all over. But calling them "Japanese Talent" is a tad misleading.

The Masada mentioned here is Japanese and is different from the ROH Masada, He's the one that teamed with Nosawa at MLW's King of Kings in 2002.

And well while Lopez isn't Japanese he does wrestle in Japan and will probably be doing his Japanese "Black Tigers" gimmick at the show.

For more info on these guys check out Paul T's update on PWG's site:
