The Man they call Hydro...

Recommended Posts

On the EWR game I have, Jay Lethal/Hydro has some of the best stats on the whole game... but I have never seen him wrestle before or even seen a picture of him.

Can someone give me a picture of him and describe his finishers for me?

Jay Lethal/Hydro, is regarded as probably the best all-around talent of the Jersey crew in Special K. He won this year's JCW Jersey J Cup, defeating CM Punk in the semi's and Homicide in the finals.

I haven't seen him bust out finishers from the 4-5 matches I've seen of his, but I believe one of them is a diving headbutt.

Too lazy to find a pic, but he's the black guy in Special K who's not Brian XL.

At the 12/27 convention, he did this weird Pumphandle Pick up into a Piledriver, except during the piledriver, he maintained the pumphandle position. Oman Tortuga took it, and he is a better man than I for doing so.

I saw him live but there was so much going on in the scramble I didn't get a great impression of him. I need ot see a straight one on one or tag match, not a scramble.

Sounds like a nastier version of the Pyscho Driver II

His finishers:

- Diving Headbutt Drop

- The Lethal Driver/The Hydroplane (Depending on who he's working as) (raps foe around his back so that they're back-to-back and then falls to one side, drilling the victim's head into the mat; it kind of ends like a crucifix pin, only that it's done quite stiffly, rather than relatively gently like a pin)

- The Lethal Injection II (modified Surfboard Stretch)

- That's All She Wrote

The piledriver you guys describe...I'd describe it as a Piledriver out of an Arm Trap/Cutthroat/Pumphandle combo.

some of these Special K guys are awesome, I'm thinking about ordering the Special K: Higher and Higher tape from refvideo.com that has a bunch of JAPW stuff with Izzy, Dixie, Hydro, Deranged, Angel Dust and others

I have that video and it is pretty good. It gets off to sort of a slow start, but once you get to the matches involving Deranged and Izzy it's all good from there. The two Deranged vs. Izzy matches are great, and their tag team match against Da Hit Squad is a brutal ass-kicking. The work between Deranged and Hydro in the three-way is great as well.

so should I pick it up? Hows the quality of the tape and are the matches clipped?

I've been watching some older JAPW featuring Special K I am not impressed. I was watching Lethal/Rainchild vs Wasted Youth vs SAT. It sucked. Boring, and all spots. Some of the spots werent cool at all. And the dives too the outside were fucking insane because they all overshot them or undershot them. I think Deranged did a regular jumping tope too the outside and he missed the SAT on the outside and smacked the wall. Looked crazy. Rainchild tried a Tigerstar Press too the outside, and never got fully over the top rope so it was pretty bad. This was from 2002 BTW

Thanks a lot guys. I'll have to see some of his work. That Lethal Driver sounds awesome. Does he wrap him up like Albert's reverse full nelson, then do sideways?

I'm not sure what Albert's move is, so I can't really say. If you've seen Tajiri's Octopus submission that he used in ECW - picture Lethal holding his foe in that position, and just falling to one side, drilling the guy's head into the mat. There's a great photo of the move in one of ROHWrestling.com event galleries.

Albert's reverse full nelson starts out like a backslide. However, he lifts the opponent onto his back and clasps his lands. The opponent is bent in a pretty bad way. Sometimes, he'll drop to his knees to drive their back into his back. Pretty painful. If Lethal turns that into a driver.... damn... that would hurt.
