Update On The Rock

Recommended Posts

Guest FrigidSoul

I haven't cared about The Rock for 3 years now. Let him waste his years where he could be the top wrestler by making shitty movies. Quite frankly I believe he's spat in the faces of the fans that supported him for more money, because he can not act as far as movies go.

Well unfortunately for them (except for Austin), they might never get that kind of response. I'm sure they felt the same way when gimpy old Hogan dropped a leg and the crowd gave him a standing ovation for the next 10 minutes. But hey, those guys are the PINNACLE of charisma. Just as people should should strive to learn from Chris Benoit or Eddie Guerrero about how to be a great wrestler, they should always be trying to bend the ears of the charisma kings. Just being resentful helps nobody.

I understand all of that, and if Rocky was a full time player then it obviously wouldn't matter if everyone went crazy for him night after night. Hell, by his being on the show full time it would get the crowd into the rest of the show, because he does give off a certain energy that does reflect an entire show.

But as it is now, his showing up out of nowhere to get that huge pop, it just looks quite odd and does reflect bad on everyone else, but like I said, it's just to me I guess.

Taking The Rock's career in acting as a personal slap in the face is always a bit troubling to me. The guy simply gets paid a whole lot more doing movies while not having to suffer as much pain from the travel and action caused by professional wrestling. Sure, he made his name in pro wrestling. But that 'debt' has been repaid many times over if only for the positive face he puts on the industry since he's so personable in mainstream interviews. But he's moved on to something more profitable for him, much like many movie stars who got their starts modeling or body building. The fact that he no longer wants to do what you want him to does not make him a face spitter.

I'm ok with Rocky going to Hollywood if he wants, more power to the guy if that's what he wants. I'll see his films and I'll always be in his corner if this is what he wants to do now.

Rock is probably one of the most unselfish guys in the wrestling business. I doubt he'll just abandon wrestling for greener pastures.

He already has.

Because over the last year, his coming back just for one or two shows, or whatever, have served no purpose. He shows up, cuts a promo or wrestles one match, and leaves. It doesn't help any of the workers, does nothing for WWE longterm, and it takes up a spot of someone who IS there full time. I see no reason for him to keep coming back if he can't stay for more than a couple of weeks or so.

Hmmmmm ok...so putting over Hurricane, and Goldberg on PPV and being involved from February til the end of April only counts as one or two shows and there was no purpose. So much for us all being "smart" marks. You can't even be considered and common sense mark yet.

Think about what you just said, read Papacita's post, then get back to me when you are able to give an opinion without resorting to bullshit putdowns and the such.

Well it's not really a bullshit put down. It was a well deserved put down. People need to get their facts right. The Rock made that one surprise return late last year as well as the longer run I referred to. It is unfair to say that he only pops in when he has nothing else to do and his appearance are meaningless. I don't consider having high profile matches on three straight PPVs to be meaningless.

Wrestling should be entertaining...having the Rock appear on RAW out of no where gives the show the "anything can happen" feel that it used to have. But that is just my opinion. As for Rock's 2 and 1/2 months run early in the year not doing any long term good - well Hurricane was over for a while until HHH squahed him and he got stuck with the SHIT angle. Rock tries to make other guys look good. When a big star does that for anyone, regardless of the outcome of the match, it helps.

But that is jus my opinion and you are entitled to disagree.

Hey, dude, try telling that to his boss, or his agent. I, for one, am glad that he has. I'd do the same thing. Wrestling fans are some of the most ungreatful pricks on the face of the planet.

Yeah, that Rock, what a son of a bitch actually thinking that he can change careers and move up in the world. THE NERVE OF THAT BASTARD.

I miss the good ole days when all the smarks at WU hated Rock and made horrifying jokes at his expense. **Sigh**
