JoeDirt Posted February 7, 2004 Report Posted February 7, 2004 After watching the Chris Hero/CM Punk 93 minute match from IWA-MS the other night, it got me wondering...what are the longest matches of all time? That match has to be up there. Has anyone done a 100 minute match, or maybe a 2 hour match? Does anyone know? Thanks!
Guest Your Olympic Hero Posted February 7, 2004 Report Posted February 7, 2004 In the 70's and before, World title matches would regularly go to 90 minute draws. In the earlier days of wrestling, around the 1930's, matches would go on for several hours at a time.
Guest Your Olympic Hero Posted February 7, 2004 Report Posted February 7, 2004 After watching the Chris Hero/CM Punk 93 minute match from IWA-MS the other night I'm not big on the indy scene, so I haven't heard anything about this match. Was it any good? Or were they just trying to act "old school" and have a 90 minute match? Who won? Link to a review?
JustJoe2k5 Posted February 7, 2004 Report Posted February 7, 2004 Reviews of the match have ranged from "amazing" to "boring," but they pretty much built this match as a continuation of their 55-Minute Tables and Ladders match they had about a year earlier. Chris Hero won I believe, but I don't know where you could find a review.
JoeDirt Posted February 7, 2004 Author Report Posted February 7, 2004 Here's a review: http://www.sauna.org/hamster/archives/003780.html
Guest Choken One Posted February 7, 2004 Report Posted February 7, 2004 Yokozuna/Taker. Series 1994. Yeah, the clock says it was only 18 minutes but time went a good 4 hours during this.
JustJoe2k5 Posted February 7, 2004 Report Posted February 7, 2004 This really has nothing to do with the topic, but I can't help but think about one thing after reading that guy's review. The review is great, but when I read that one part "Dave Prazak and Jim Fannin were waaaaayyyyyy too good at their job for the indy paycheque they were probably taking home that night," I couldn't help but smirk because Jim Fannin is the one paying for everything, because he is the owner of IWA Mid-South.
Slayer Posted February 7, 2004 Report Posted February 7, 2004 Hogwash! Why, I once watched Frank Gotch wrestle George Hackenschmidt catch-as-catch-can for over seven hours... back then, of course, if the match was shorter than four hours, we demanded our nickel back!
Red Hot Thumbtack In The Eye Posted February 7, 2004 Report Posted February 7, 2004 In Ancient Egypt I used to promote matches that routinely lasted 3 days or more. In those days we didn't need fancy things like referees or rings, we relied on our wits, strength and a well fastened loincloth to entertain our fans. Longest match i ever heard about went a little better than 5 hours. Don't remember the names off hand.
Guest Man Of 1,004 Modes Posted February 7, 2004 Report Posted February 7, 2004 Steiner/HHH from RR 03. I fell asleep at the start (time was 9:00 or sometihng) woke up at 12 midnight, and the match was still on! of course, it was the replay, but the match sucked enough to fell that long.
Aero Posted February 7, 2004 Report Posted February 7, 2004 I could be wrong, but I think the longest WWF/WWE match ever is the 2002 Royal Rumble match which went 1 hour and nine minutes or something.
Guest Choken One Posted February 7, 2004 Report Posted February 7, 2004 It was 69 minutes... WWWF Had matches that went 90 minutes countless times... I think Shawn/Bret at 62 is the longest MODERN day WWF/E match ever...
deancoles Posted February 7, 2004 Report Posted February 7, 2004 Antonio Inoki had a match that lasted 2 hours.
