Guest glennsoe Report post Posted February 16, 2004 Recap written by Adam Martin of WrestleView.com This week's GIR Radio interview featured former WWE star Zach Gowen. Gowen discusses his recent release from WWE, rumors of his backstage attitude, the possibility of him returning to NWA TNA and so much more! You can listen yourself at www.getinthering.tv. - Zach Gowen joins the show. Sir Adam mentions how he enjoyed watching Gowen on WWE TV and thought he was great. Gowen calls Sir Adam a liar and says he isn't that great. The Phantom says he is 75% better than most people with two legs. Gowen said he appreciates the comments, but says that isn't completely true. - Sir Adam mentions Gowen's release from the WWE and how Get in the Ring was "black balled" by the WWE PR department, showing how everyone has had a rough few weeks with the company. Gowen said he is doing alright after the release, looking forward to becoming a college kid and working more independent wrestling shows. Sir Adam asks Gowen how he is so positive all the time. Gowen said that is just the way he is. - Sir Adam talks about how Gowen was with the WWE for a full year. He asks what it was like to pushed very quickly and then dropped a year later. Gowen said it was crazy how he was involved in one of the bigger matches at a WWE pay per view. He said last year was the greatest year of his life and gave him the opportunity to make some money and help him pay off school. Sir Adam asks why he thinks the WWE let him go. Gowen said he didn't think they had much for him to or had anything else in mind at the time. - The Phantom asks if the rumors are true on the internet that said many WWE guys didn't want to work with him. Gowen said if that was the case, they didn't tell him. He said everyone was really cool with him. Sir Adam asks if he reads things on the internet that are written about him. Gowen said he always reads the internet and said many of the stories got blown out of proportion. - The Phantom asks what it was like to work with Hulk Hogan, or Mr. America who he worked with at the time. Gowen said it was great and getting to work with him was a dream come true. Sir Adam asks what it was like to work with Vince McMahon. Gowen mentioned how it was crazy he was working with guys like Vince and Hogan seeing as he was only nine months into the business and only had about 60 matches under his belt. He said he was rushed into the Main Event way before he was ready. Gowen said despite that all, he did what they wanted him to do and he had fun in the process and hopes to be back someday. - Sir Adam mentions how he was with NWA TNA for a while and how it looked like the company was getting ready to build up something big with his character. Sir Adam asked if TNA felt they blew it with him seeing as he wasn't officially under contract and was on his way to the WWE. Gowen said he was offered a contract from TNA and took it home to look things over. He said a few days later, he got a call from the WWE office and spoke with Johnny Ace. He said Ace offered him a WWE contract deal and said he would have been quote "retarded" to turn down an offer to be on TV and get big exposure. - The Phantom mentions Gowen's big win over Matt Hardy at the WWE No Mercy pay per view in October of 2003. The Phantom asks if he was ever involved in the booking concerning his matches or anything he was involved with. Gowen said he wasn't and said he did what they told him to do. - The Phantom brings up the funny situation that involved Johnny Ace calling the wrong guy and offering him a WWE contract as he only wrestled on one leg as well. Gowen said as he understands the story, Jim Ross told Johnny Ace to sign the "one-legged guy." He said Johnny Ace called up Steve Kern in Florida and asked about the one-legged wrestler they had. Gowen mentioned how there really isn't too many one-legged wrestlers to get mixed up with and how the WWE made the mistake of contacting the other guy. The Phantom asks if he ever met the other one-legged wrestler and Gowen said he never has. - Sir Adam mentions how much Gowen has overcome in his life, but asked if the guys in the WWE held any resentment towards him and ever wanted to be harder on him in the ring. Gowen said he was very worried about that when he was coming into the company, as he had read stories about the new guys coming in. He said despite hearing about those stories, everyone was really cool and treated him well. - The Phantom mentions his involvement with Vince McMahon and asked if he was ever offended by some of things he made him do on TV or on House Shows. Gowen said it didn't bother him at all and it was just something done to get some big heat with the crowds. Both Sir Adam and The Phantom joke about how Gowen won't give them any dirt or details concerning the WWE. Sir Adam jokes and said Gowen could have at least said Bob Holly's feet smell or something along the lines of that. Gowen said Bob Holly was a cool guy and said if he had any dirt, he would have no problem sharing it with them. - A caller joins the show and asks Gowen if Vince McMahon made it clear to him if he would be used as a novelty act or as apart of the WWE roster for years and years to come. Gowen said Vince never specifically told him he would be used as a novelty act, but the fact that he is a professional wrestler with one leg made it somewhat obvious that he would be used in that way for a while. - Sir Adam asks Gowen what wrestling move is the hardest for him to do and what move is easier for him to do, but may appear hard to wrestling fans. Gowen said the hardest move by far is just moving around the ring since he gets so tired jumping around on one leg. He said doing basic moves are a piece of cake for him, but the actual moving around in the ring can tire him out the most. The caller asks Gowen if he can do the leg scissors. Gowen said he has done it before and did it with a good friend of his in Chicago. - Sir Adam mentions how Gowen's plans at this time are to focus on independent wrestling and go to college and asks what he will be studying. Gowen said his major will always be secondary education along with a mathematics degree. He said he is a big math nerd and would love to be a math teacher in high school. - The Phantom mentions how he thinks Gowen is a nice guy, but keeps reading bad things and rumors about him on the internet. The Phantom mentions a story about him meeting Hulk Hogan in a hospital and how many claimed it wasn't true. Gowen laughed and said that Mike Tenay from NWA TNA made up that story. He said Tenay thought it would be a cool thing to put over on TV and followed along with it. - Sir Adam asks if Gowen developed any close friendships with anyone during his time with WWE. Gowen said when he got to the WWE, Rhyno, Nunzio and A-Train all looked out for him and showed him the ropes so to speak. He said how he got along great with Spanky, before he left the company, and Paul London because they were all around the same age. Sir Adam brings up the situation with Spanky and the WWE where he basically told them he wanted out. Gowen said you really couldn't have blamed the guy since they weren't really doing anything with him at the time. - The Phantom asks what the locker room attitude was like in WWE and mentioned the recent releases involving Ernest "The Cat" Miller and Chris Kanyon. Gowen said Miller was very limited in the ring and wasn't really over that much with the crowd, stopping himself after the statement and joking how the same pretty much applied to him to get some laughs from the hosts. He said Kanyon was a great talent and was confused as to why the WWE couldn't come up with something for him seeing as he is a big guy. Gowen said he was very surprised when Kanyon was let go by the company. - Talk turned to Ernest "The Cat" Miller and Sir Adam mentioned how he was always entertaining to watch. Gowen said Ernest was a great guy and could dance his ass off in the ring. Sir Adam said the best part about Ernest when he was with WCW was when he would be walking to the back and would still be screaming things. Everyone agreed that he was not used properly in the WWE. - The Phantom asks Gowen what the temparture is like backstage. Both Sir Adam and Gowen sounded confused and Phantom explained that he had never been backstage at a WWE event before and wanted to know. Gowen said it was about 73 degrees. - The Phantom asks what the attitude is like backstage when a lot the talent is expected to get released in the coming weeks and months. Gowen said layoffs can come at anytime so everyone is always watching their back. The Phantom begged Gowen to give him controversial information. Sir Adam said Gowen would have been perfect to send around for PR tours. Gowen laughed and apologized for being a crappy interview. - The Phantom asks if he has anything against Lamont, since he still has a job with WWE. Gowen said Lamont is a cool guy and mentioned how he roomed with him a few times. Gowen joked about how short he is, but said he is a really nice guy. - Sir Adam asks if Gowen is looking forward to going overseas in August. Gowen said he can't wait and mentioned how he will be facing a former WWE developmental wrestler Chad Collyer. - Sir Adam mentions how he went from working with independent wrestling promotions to NWA TNA to WWE and asked if the quality of women improve. Gowen said it does and mentioned how when you are on TV you get a lot of people knowing who you are all of a sudden. The Phantom asked if they should feel bad for him in the women department at this time. Gowen mentioned how he has a girlfriend and how they have been dating for five months. The Phantom joked and said Gowen should be like Ric Flair and get with as many women as possible during his young age. - Sir Adam asked Gowen if he had any plans of returning to NWA TNA, especially with the upcoming "Bound for Glory" pay per view coming up. Gowen said he would love to return, but said he hasn't spoken with anyone yet in the company. He said it was fun while he worked with TNA. Gowen joked and said he would love to beat up Chyna in TNA. The Phantom asked if he wants to beat her up since he read her book. Gowen said he had no interest in reading her book, getting some laughs from the hosts. - The show comes back from commercial and The Phantom says he wants to get one thing of dirt out of Gowen before they end the show. The Phantom mentions how Gowen worked closely with Stephanie McMahon in the WWE and asked what it was like to work with her. Gowen said it was awesome, prompting The Phantom to joke and call him an S.O.B for not spilling any dirt. He said Stephanie is a really nice person and fun to work with. Talk turns to how Gowen met his girlfriend. He said he met her in a bar, walked up and introduced himself saying quote "Hi, my name is Zach and I really like your ass." This got some laughs from the hosts and Gowen said after she slapped him, they had a laugh about it later and it all worked out. - Sir Adam asks if the guys on the SmackDown brand liked to hang out after the shows at night. Gowen said a lot of the guys go out and have fun. He mentioned how it is a great life to be on the road. - Talk turns to Sir Adam and The Phantom trying to get Phil O. from X Wrestling (who was on the line before and during the interview) to hire them to be at the show in August that Gowen is wrestling on with other big name stars. Sir Adam mentions that if The Phantom brings the tequila, they can drink like they are in their 20's again. Gowen chimes in and says that tequila is gross and prefers Jack Daniels. Both Sir Adam and The Phantom think Jack is too rough. Sir Adam asks what Phil O. is drinking and he says Jack as well. Gowen jokes with the hosts and said that if he was legally able to drink, Jack Daniels would definitely be his drink of choice. - The Phantom says he doesn't want to offend Gowen, but asks if he gets drunk faster than someone with two legs. Gowen laughs and said it would be make sense if he did. The Phantom asked Gowen how much he would drink if he was able to legally. Gowen said he usually drinks a pint and he is good for the night, but joked and added he can't drink legally yet. - Sir Adam brings up how a lot of the women on the SmackDown brand are taken. The Phantom adds how much better looking Dawn Marie is looking recently. Gowen agrees and said she first caught his eye during her time with ECW. He adds that he has some real dirt on Dawn Marie to share with Sir Adam and The Phanton. Gowen pauses and said she is a really nice girl to get some laughs from the hosts. Sir Adam said if he keeps that up, he will be hired back by the WWE in no time. - The Phantom asks if Gowen's website will be re-opened again. Gowen said he is the stages or revamping it because he feels a lot of wrestling websites are boring today. He joked and said he wants to add some interactive games and porn. Sir Adam asks if he is the only person who hasn't seen the Paris Hilton video. The Phanton and Gowen mention they both have and Gowen even offers to send a copy to Sir Adam. Sir Adam thanks Gowen for coming on the show and jokes about how it is great to have a new friend to share porn with.
Guest Loss Report post Posted February 16, 2004 What a lousy interview. Whether the hosts are fishing for dirt or not, they shouldn't make it so blatantly obvious. What trolls.
Slickster 0 Report post Posted February 16, 2004 A good interview, but nothing really new here.I'd accuse him of being too nice in order to get rehired, but his college plans (and his own admission that he was pushed too soon) seem to contradict that. I was disappointed they didn't ask him about the whole 'restaurant prima donna' rumor we've all heard.

haVoc 0 Report post Posted February 16, 2004 I doubt he could say anything bad if he wanted to. Doesn't WWE put a 6 month gag order on guys who are let go?
