iliketurtles 0 Report post Posted February 22, 2004 http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?id...goryId=cat03023 If anyone owns this or has had experience with it, please give me some comments. I record a lot of wrestling so the fact it records high quality EP is a turn on with me and I like to have my XBox/DVD player hooked up with great sound quality and video quality as well. Also, if there's possibly a VCR out there that you like better that maybe cheaper, please reply.
Guest I'm That Damn Zzzzz Report post Posted February 23, 2004 Maybe you'll find this useful: http://www.epinions.com/elec-Video-VCR-All...isplay_~reviews sony slv-n70 by steve515, Jan 01 '01 Pros: easy to set-up and use Cons: does not have the S-link output I bought this product 6 months ago and have found this to be the best vcr i have ever used. This vcr plays all tapes very well, even my old tapes look and sound good. I love the auto tracking feature. The operating instructions booklet is fairly easy to... Read the full review SLV-N700 by maribull, Oct 18 '03 Pros: Remote set up well On-screen display ease of set up Cons: Remote misfunctions "Snow" on several channels when recording Too expensive for what it does I'm on my second SLV-N700 and am about to return it. The "commercial skip" feature on the remote did not work on the first one; on this second one the volume control does not operate from the remote. I get terrible recording reception on several channels (never happened with my old $50 VCR). I do like the ease of use and the remote is set up well. The on-screen display is good but it only stores 8 channels for recording.
Guest Razor Roman Report post Posted February 23, 2004 Hey, I used to sell these things, and honestly the JVC that we had for 79.99 was exactly the same, and I have about 30 of the JVCs installed in classrooms at my fulltime job, and they all work great. I don't have any experience with the Sony. Another brand I buy tons of is Panasonic. Their stuff really holds up well for lots and lots of use (And abuse). A word about commercial skip. IT SUCKS, DON:T USE IT. Basically what it does it runs through all your tapes, and looks for commercials, and then it puts a mark where it thinks they strart and where it thinks they end. Meaning, it puts lots of unnecessary wear and tear on your VCR. Either press Pause while your taping (that will save you tape) or just don't be lazy and manually fast forward through them. If you really want to skip commercials, buy a Tivo.
Cran Da Maniac 0 Report post Posted February 23, 2004 $100 is too much to pay for a VCR these days, even with all it's features. Heck, the JVC on there (and mentioned above) is a lot better buy with many of the same features. And if you must have a Sony, Wal-Mart.com has one comparable to yours for only $79 Sony
iliketurtles 0 Report post Posted February 24, 2004 First off...thanks for all your help guys, I appreciate. This is really weird, but the Sony VCR was taking down from Best Buy's website for whatever reason. Here's the same one at Circuit City (incase you didn't see the Best Buy link): http://www.circuitcity.com/detail.jsp?c=1&...&qp=0&oid=67794 Looking at the Walmart one, that looks ALOT better. Only thing I'm curious is what the difference is between the one from Best Buy and the one from Wal Mart (explaing the decline in price...but I guess it's not that big of a deal because they look the same to me). Here's the exact review on the exact brand that is being offered at Walmart: http://www.epinions.com/pr-Sony_SLV-N500_VCR For whatever reason, I was going to go to Best Buy today to get the VCR but I didn't and ended up coming back home and reseraching this stuff more. I'm glad I did. I currently have a JVC VCR that I bought about 2-3 years ago and I've used the hell out of it recording stuff on TV...some of the buttons on the clicker don't work, when I use it for DVD playing and XBox playing there's only mono sound instead of stereo sound, sometimes it doesn't take the tape well when I put it in...I'm just kind of fed up with it and I'd like to get a new one that has better EP recording as well. I'm thinking about going and getting the one at Walmart, though.
iliketurtles 0 Report post Posted February 24, 2004 What are you guys thoughts on DVD/VHS VCR Combos? I've got a DVD Player that works awesome (Mintek...paid 50 bucks @ Best Buy for it 2 years ago) and I could always just give that away or something. Here's what I'm looking at: http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.gsp...3A62055%3A92528 Whatcha think?
Cran Da Maniac 0 Report post Posted February 25, 2004 Not bad for the price, if I may say so myself.
iliketurtles 0 Report post Posted February 26, 2004 I concour. I believe that's what I think I'm aiming for. Thanks again for everyone's help.
the max 0 Report post Posted February 26, 2004 I don't recommend combos, as I've known people to have had bad luck when either DVD/VCR stopped working and they couldn't get them fixed. It seems like a good idea, but it's much easier to get both a DVD player and a VCR. If you have space issues, tape them together.
Guest El Satanico Report post Posted February 26, 2004 I have one of those Sony DVD/VCR. I like it and I've had no problems with it. It's a good unit with Progressive Scan DVD and 4 Head Hi-Fi Stereo VCR. I got mine for $79.99 at Sam's Club I believe. I had a Panasonic DVD/VCR for a few months prior, but I couldn't pass up such a great deal. Besides the Panasonic wouldn't play the majority of recordable DVDs. Another positive was that I'd now have a Sony VCR to match my Sony Trinitron TV(VCR and TV are the same color) and Receiver.

Guest El Satanico Report post Posted February 28, 2004 80 bucks? Good lord. The problem is, you always seem to find great deals when you're not looking to buy something. When you're planning on making a purchase, the great deals always seem to dry up. Best thing to do is price shop the ads every Sunday.
iliketurtles 0 Report post Posted February 28, 2004 Well, I certainly changed my mind enough times and in the end it paid off. I got this one @ Circuit City (The one originally at Best Buy) for 79.99 instead of 99.99: http://www.circuitcity.com/detail.jsp?c=1&...&qp=0&oid=67794 The guy who was helping me out was a total idiot and I told him to call Wal-Mart because they had it there for 79.99...and he said "Alright, no problem" and ringed me up and that was that. There was ONE Sony VCR at WalMart ( http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.gsp...4564#long_descr )...but the one at Circuit City/Best Buy was newer. So I ended up getting to keep my DVD player, get the best VCR on the market, and save 20 bucks. Not bad for doing research...thanks for everyone's help thru this long and painful journey. ...sorta.
