and then he came out to NOTHING for his match.

True.

At least he got a reaction earlier.

But it's canceled out by the nothing later.

No he didn't.

What matches?

Flair.

Holding HHH opponents is suppose to get him over?

Worked for rocky in the Nation.

Rocky was already over before the Nation.

Uhm, in a BAD way.

Chanting "die, rocky die" at a face is bad.

Last week on RAW Orton got perfectly acceptable heat, and alot of heat for doing the "Bang! Bang!" thing. Considering he was facing Val Venis, I'd say it's definately progress.

Forget the match for a minute.

What did he get for his entrance?

Modest reaction. Pretty much the same reaction for his entrance as he got after the match. Some booing, but not a whole lot.

No that came when Rock was a happy smiling babyface cause they pushed him to hard to fast. Then they had him lost the IC title pushed him down the card till he was injured. When he came back they put him in that Nation and slowly moved him up from there.

It doesn't matter because he was over regardless before the crowd eventually turned on him. At least he got pops / reactions during that time which now Randy is just struggling to get.

Austin pretty much was over INSTANTLY once they figured out the Austin 3:16 gimmick was quite effective...yeah he spent a few months in 1996 in the mid-card but he wasn't really getting pushed anyways...

That's true, but what about his other 7 or 8 years in the buisness? Sure, he was okay with Pillman, and he was US Champion Stunning Steve Austin, but the Ringmaster?

He was muddled in the mid-card for years, and he managed to catch on and ride his popularity to the top of the business. It not like he was mid-card for ONE year then started main-eventing.

I didn't become a fan of WCW until 1997, but based on tapes, Austin was about as over as one can get while being a tag team/midcard attraction. He was a smug, cocky heel (most of the time) with a great look and a sadistic streak, and the fans were always into him in every match or promo I've seen. He wasn't a main eventer for the most part because Ric Flair's plans to put him over and send him to the next level were squashed, not because he wasn't capable or getting a good enough reaction.

As for Orton, I'm a fan of his. He's not a favorite of mine and he's certainly no Cena, but he is above average in the ring (which is mroe than you can say for quite a few WWE Superstars) and is usually fairly entertaining. He's getting over slowly but surely and is getting heat whether you will admit it or not. To those that say he is not ready for the Intercontinental Title- titles are designed to get people over. The Rock got the same treatment with the same belt early in his career. The only major thing they are doing wrong is not building his feuds around the belt.

Like it or not with all the push Orton's been getting since last year, he's still not as over as he should be. A couple of Foley chants and boos when he did the bang bang signature move don't mean squat, he is still as unover as the timekeeper. Orton stumbles his lines as much as he fucks up in the ring, the RKOoops says it all, the kid is not ready for this and he deserves to be on Heat or RAW opening filler matches till he develops some kind of personality.Rocky got over b/c he had (and still does) that superstar "it" factor, Lesnar too(even though he got handed the belt too early in his career, i knew he had the tools to be a main eventer), but Orton doesn't have it, just like his father he is nothing more than a sidekick to the big stars and not a big time player, everything he does seems forced . WWE is trying to make Orton into the next Rock but he is not even good enough to be Rock lite.

I actually thought the RKO was more of Jericho's fault. That's why in my article I said I wouldn't say it was Orton's fault 100%. I don't think that Jericho knew he was coming yet...and he sure as hell didn't try to move/sell it.

It's not like Orton should've grabbed him really hard in the first place.

He could have grabbed him a little. What's Jericho supposed to do, sell the move after Orton went flying by him, Gayda style?

That's the problem w/ his version of the move - he's only using 1 arm to hit the move, so, coupled w/ his jumping application, it's easy to mess up the move, esp. if the person taking the move doesn't see him coming. He really should work at getting it more DDP-like.

Or pick a new move, since everyone and their mother uses some sort of Ace Crusher as a finisher.

Speaking of, Billy Gunn hit Brock w/ a Diamond Cutter on this past SD. I'm surprised they let him use it, considering it was just another move in the match, while Golden Boy Orton uses it as his finisher.

Maybe they'll have an interpromotional feud with dueling Ace Crushers, ala RVD and EDDY~! with their frog splashes.

That, unfortunately, would be the last sign of the Apocalypse, so be careful what you wish for.

He was using it even before his latest injury, back when he had returned from rotator cuff surgery and was paired with Torrie. I always wondered why they'd let him use it as a non-finisher when Orton's RKO was being put over as a match ending maneuver.

You say this as if Gunn isn't a favorite of the Office himself.
