Red Baron 0 Report post Posted May 26, 2005 Planet Caravan is the best song Black Sabbath has released I think, and the intro of N.I.B. is the reason why i wanted to play a bass.

cabbageboy 0 Report post Posted May 27, 2005 Question for you guys. I am considering getting the Rhino remastered boxed set of Sabbath (Ozzy Era). Thing is I already have the 1996 Castle reissues and I am wondering if it'd even be a serious upgrade. Does anyone have the Rhino set and know how it compares? Guest Eric the Eagle Report post Posted May 27, 2005 Like I said in hte poll thread, Sabbath post-Ozzy is a totally different band with the same name. Ozzy WAS Sabbath. Though Dio was and is a hugely superior vocalist. That being said, the best singer isn't always the best choice. Take Nick Cave pre-Murder Ballads. He can't sing for shit, but damn if it isn't great. And about Maiden... A lot of their songs are not meant to be taken seriously at all. They are simply for fun. Most of them are my favorites (I am a huge Maiden fan). Slayer 0 Report post Posted May 28, 2005 And I don't even like Stratovarius, jerk! You know, I actually decided to break out some of my buried Strat MP3s and give them a relisten and they've got some good songs after all, so I was wrong here
cabbageboy 0 Report post Posted May 28, 2005 Ah well I went ahead and got that Sabbath box set off ebay. Got it for about 70 bucks which is better than the 85-90 it costs retail. I'm hoping it has a definitive Vol. 4, which is an album that has never been quite right to me soundwise on ANY version. Sabbath Bloody Sabbath is another one that with a superior remaster could be hailed as a brilliant album, but the original Warner CD of it sounds shitty. Styles 0 Report post Posted May 28, 2005 Got it from BMG Music club for 47 dollars. It was on sale and I jumped.
Guest Thrashist Report post Posted May 28, 2005 Got it from BMG Music club for 47 dollars. It was on sale and I jumped. Whoa, what's the catch other than being a member and doing the whole 12 for 1 or whatever deal? And how much is shipping for the set? I need to get my hands on that. cabbageboy 0 Report post Posted May 28, 2005 Thrashist, I beg of you not to join. I actually belonged to BMG for a while and what they did was this: I got the initial 8 or 12 CDs, whatever it was for a penny. Then they started sending me a CD once a month, regardless of whether I wanted it or not. I never agreed to this that I recall, maybe it was a thing I had to do but wasn't properly informed of. Further, I then quit BMG finally once they started sending me Bon Jovi CDs and shit....and then they kept pestering me, saying I hadn't paid for a Live CD (the one with Dolphin's Cry I think) and kept billing me. I finally just sent them the damn CD back and told them to NEVER bother me again. MJ Styles, tell me..how's the quality compared to past releases? I always thought the first two albums sounded the best, Master of Reality is a bit muddy but I think it was meant to be. Vol. 4 has drowned out vocals at times and sounds muddy as hell. Sabbath Bloody Sabbath is infinitely better on the Castle version (the Warner Bros. version sounds like a bad bootleg), though it still has a couple of sound breakups. Sabotage is pretty solid sounding on either Warner or the Castle. Last two Ozzys I never heard on Warner Bros., but sound good on Castle.
Styles 0 Report post Posted May 28, 2005 I like BMG. They don't send you anything you don't want ever. Every month you have a "featured selection" which you can decline online. I've never once been sent or charged for something I didn't order. The shipping is free since if you order 5 cds or more, it's free shipping (it's an 8 cd plus dvd box set) so it was 47.99 total. Shipping is usually where they kill you though as a "free" cd is many times still 2.99 each for shipping. You just have to be smart and only jump on the worthwhile deals. I can't compare sound since I never owned the originals (obviously I jumped at the chance to own all of Sabbath's Ozzy era albums) but they all sound really good and clear. Guest Thrashist Report post Posted May 28, 2005 Nah, I had no intention to join BMG, but instead find someone who was a member. (unless the price is good for eBay as well). I was a member a few years ago, and it went smoothly. I think the thing people need to understand about these types of clubs is to make sure to be absolutely on top of everything. Pay the bills as soon as they come in, cancel the CDs before they mail it, and just try to make sure they don't start pulling shit haphazardly etc etc. Of course maybe I just got lucky, but I did all of the above and cancelled my membership as soon as I finished the deal. Worked for me well then, but they definitely don't have enough of a selection for me to go for it another round.
cabbageboy 0 Report post Posted May 29, 2005 I think that was my problem, I didn't cancel right after the initial 8 CDs for a penny thing. I think they just called me saying "Hey, you staying with BMG?" and I was in a rush to get rid of them and said "Sure whatever." There was no mention of me having to pay 20.00 or so for a CD every month, so frankly they completely misrepresented themselves and I won't forget that. tekcop 0 Report post Posted May 29, 2005 I used to be a BMG member. They have some really, really good sales every now and then but the insane shipping cost just kills a lot of interest in taking advantage of them.
