Good Ring of honor matches

Recommended Posts

I've got the Paul London/Bryan Danielson match(2 out of 3 falls), AJ Styles vs Danielson, and the 3 way with Low Ki/London/Styles.

I'd really like to get into Ring of Honor more.

I would like to hear your suggestions. :)

Based on what you like, you want to see AJ Styles vs. Paul London (6/14/03), American Dragon vs. AJ Styles (11/1/03)....hell, pretty much get everything with London, Styles, and Dragon from RoH. For the most part, you can't go wrong.

Great time to get into ROH, guy.

London's match with Daniels at Round Robin Challenge 2 is worth a look; as is Danielson-Jay Briscoe from Final Battle '03.

Some good stuff:

AJ Styles vs Christopher Daniels and Low Ki vs Red from Road To The Title are both very good. AJ Styles vs Paul London from Night of Grudges. Low Ki vs Danielson vs Daniels from Era Of Honor Begins. Danielson vs London from Night of the Butcher.

You really can't go wrong with the whole 11/1 show. It's great from top to bottom. Final Battle 03 was great too, but it was kinda a half roh show. RRC1 is really good with two Danielson matches. ASX is one of the best top to bottom shows I've seen as well.

My favorite RoH match is London vs. Styles...you'd like that I think.

Also...I love Christopher Daniels vs. Doug Williams at Night of the Champions. I just love it.

The Briscoes vs. Styles and Red was good both times...but the first one was GREAT.

What do you mean by that?

He's referencing the current RF controversy.

Yea, all three of the RRC1 matches were good. I havent seen the second one. The scramble cage from 11/1 is MUST SEE for fans of high flying/spotfest type stuff. INSANE match. Jack Evans is the next Red.

Low Ki vs AJ Styles from Honor Invades Boston

Jay Briscoe vs Mark Briscoe from Honor Invades Boston

Jay Briscoe vs Mark Briscoe from the First Anniversery.

Slim J and Jody Fleisch vs The Backseats from Do or Die.

Do or Die is an awesome show which I think is underrated.

Where's the love for Low Ki vs. Samoa Joe - Glory By Honor 10/5/02?

It's quite a spectacle, but ultimately it is not a very good wrestling match.

Reasons?

They basically just beat the holy hell out of each other with stiff kicks and chops.

Samoa Joe vs. Homicide - Do or Die

Colt Cabana vs. Homicide vs. BJ Whitmer vs. Dan Maff - Death Before Dishonor

Jody Fleisch vs. Low-Ki - Night of Champions

Michael Shane vs. Paul London - Unscripted

Samoa Joe vs. BJ Whitmer vs. Homicide vs. EZ Money - Expect The Unexpected

Chris Daniels vs. Doug Williams vs. Spanky vs. Low-Ki - Crowning of a Champion

American Dragon vs. Doug Williams - Scramble Madness

Paul London vs. BJ Whitmer vs. Homicide vs. Colt Cabana - Revenge on The Prophecy

BJ Whitmer vs. Tony Mamaluke vs. Jimmy Jacobs vs. Alex Shelley - Wrath of the Wracket

OK, so I like the 4-ways.

And how does that = "not a good wrestling match" ?

If you understand why they're doing that, then it shouldn't be a problem. It is, after all, a "fight without honor." Not to mention the apparent All-Japan influence (I noticed a dozen things borrowed from AJ...the finish is right taken right from a Kawada match).

There's a point to what they're doing. It's not just mindless stiffness.

It wasn't a wrestling match; it was an exercise in brutality. Don't get me wrong, because I enjoyed watching it. I just wouldn't consider it a wrestling match at all.

The commentators were selling it like "OMG< THIS IS THE STIFFEST EVER!!! NOTHING IS STIFFER! THIS IS REAL!"....but what about the other matches? Were they fake just because they didn't use actual forearms, chops, kicks, and punches?

If matches are "brutal" then they stop being "wrestling matches" ? That makes no sense. If brutal = not wrestling then Stan Hansen, Vader, Toshiaki Kawada, etc... never had a wrestling match in their lives.

It's still a wrestling match. It's just a different style of wrestling match.

No, they just weren't brutal All-Japan influenced fights without honor. :)

My problem with it was the logic. It looked like they were going for a shootesque thing, in which case, just sitting there taking strikes just came off as masterbatory and stupid. There was no heated history between the two leading up to this, the entire hype behind the match was that it was a stiff match, which is too much of a break of kayfabe in my view. I also thought the selling from Ki in the match was incredibly unrealistic. He weighs 100 lbs less than Joe, yet he stands there toe to toe with him, and actually sells less than Joe does. He didn't sell the leg off of the crab, either. If anyone should have collapsed there, it shoulda been Low Ki.

London-Spanky from Road to the Title is a great little match.

If you like Scrambles, the Wrath of the Racket version is probably the best I've seen so far.

And on Joe-Ki, shoot style or not, they were just trying to get both men over as bad-asses. And it worked.

Yeah, Lo-Ki/Samoa Joe REALLY should've been Joe no-selling everything and beating the everloving piss outta Lo-Ki, because he's got a massive amount of weight on him, plus he was brought in as the hitman for Daniels. How much sense does it make for your hitman to LOSE in his first match?

He shoulda beat the shit outta Lo-Ki until HE collapsed, then they coulda had a re-match with Ki getting the win down the road.

Oh, and the first Mark vs. Jay Briscoe match is tres éxcellente.

For the record it's LoW- Ki, there's a W there. Sorry, that just bugs me. I'd like to add Whitmer v Homicide from 11/1 as well. It's a solid, well put together, stiff match. Plus the call on the Kop Killa is just awesome. DANGEROUSSSSSSSSS!
