Mainstream Leak of Brock

Guest Choken One

It's already being reported on FOX Sports Net and You can bet that USA Today will have a blurb about it and the Local NYC media will cover it...

How should WWE combat this? Just completely ignore or just admit that Yes, each men have agreed to part ways with the company?

Most likely cover it up and Vince will come out on Raw or Smackdown and have something to say about what happen like he did with Austin.

If for some wacky reason this is a work, would this be considered the most elaborate work ever?

Has to be but it isn't...

It's impossible to pull something THIS grand off with such media coverage

Be interesting to see what the MSG crowd does after the match ends Sunday night that's for sure.

Only because he is a big star and is heading to the NFL. So NFL fans will know, stations will have the first big news on a new player from another arena and NFL and wrestling fans wont be surprised when (insert name here) is tackled and he removes his helmet.

I'm surprised the media even cares

It's actually a good thing that they do. I can imagine a lot of casual fans who stopped watching during 2001 heard these headlines and said "Who's Brock Lesnar? What else have I missed!"

Here's a gem from the Miami Herald:

Lesnar leaving WWE

BY JIM VARSALLONE

[email protected]

According to the Wrestling Online Newsletter, WWE star Brock Lesnar is quitting WWE after his mega-match with Goldberg at WrestleMania XX on Sunday, March 14 at Madison Square Garden in New York City.

Lesnar made quite an impact in a short period of time becoming the youngest WWE champion in history after defeating The Rock. The travel took its toll on the young superstar who even flew on his own personal plane.

Like Jeff Hardy who left the company somewhat burned out by the grind in the ring and massive traveling schedule, Lesnar is young enough to someday return.

Ironically, speculation was Goldberg would wrestle his final WWE match at WrestleMania, but since becoming friends with Stone Cold Steve Austin and the apparent departure of Lesnar, look for Goldberg to remain with the company -- possibly joining the SmackDown roster.

If it was a work then WWE would have been the one contacting the news sites - not articles stemmed from PWInsider gossip.

Plus, how would advertising that two of the big PPV draws are not going to be around the next day help? It puts WWE in a bad light for the future. It's stupidly short-sighted of them if it's a work, thus, I'm not ruling it out.

Deon, I also heard the executives at Webster's were considering the removal of the word "gullible" from the dictionary.

Perhaps you should write a letter.

Story's not true. I'm sure actual WRESTLING sources like Meltzer or the Torch would know about this before the Miami Herald.

So, basically, Big Show and Kurt get to pick between getting squashed and no sold by Taker or getting squashed and no sold by FGB.

Lucky them.

I hope they both take time off.

My God, I'm pleading the Big Show's case, aren't I?

It would kinda be implied Vince wants to resign Goldberg if he's losing Brock.

I wonder if the same people who believe the Miami Herald story are the same ones who shoot down everything that doesn't come from Meltzer.

Meltz's been duped plenty of times too, so there is no one source with a sparkling record.

And Brock should keep his leaks with the seat up. *rimshot*

Regardless of whether it's good or bad, publicity is publicity.

WWXX should get a huge rise from this. From a marketing and advertising point of view, this is nothing short of pure genius.

More people will watch WM now, for the wrong reason, but at this point, it doesn't matter. This is the only kind of publicity the WWE can get these days. Either a woman has to get naked for Playboy, a has-been has to make a cameo, or a wrestler with talent takes the high road. No wonder they get no respect. It's almost sad. (Almost because the actual product doesn't help them right now)

How the hell are more people going to watch WM now? From reading a blurb in a paper or seeing a 1-minute piece on the news? The only ones that are going to be affected by this news are those that ALREADY BOUGHT THE SHOW or are going to do so regardless of who is staying or leaving.

I too detect the odour of bullplop. I reckon this is a super-elaborate work. Lesnar "storms out Austin-style" creating a bit of media noise by carrying on about playing NFL, which would be interesting if he's been on any juice, and after some time off he comes back to WWE bringing with him some mainstream recognition. It seems far-fetched, but that's just what springs to my mind.

(Good to be back by the way, I will add here, as there's nowhere better to put it, that Canada fucking rocks and I want to live there)

I didn't say a lot more people would be watching, but a few more may now have just remembered that WM is Sunday. In the long, it won't really matter.

The man doesnt deserve a break??

He just came off of the belt loss and doesnt have a heated feud with Eddie. What is there for him to do, than to have a break, build up muscle, and come back when he can get on schedule and get a return reaction.

Its the routine...

If for some wacky reason this is a work, would this be considered the most elaborate work ever?

I was discussing this with a friend of a mine. This would be masterful promotion if this was indeed a work. Even the most casual of fans have heard from somewhere that Goldberg is done with the company after Wrestlemania. There are still plenty of small market newspapers that run a regular wrestling column where they report things from the net and sheets. Plus, you'd be surprised by how many people I run into who haven't watched wrestling in two years but click on a wrestling website from time to time at work just to keep tabs on what's going on. They just aren't interested enough in the product to watch.

We got to talking about how WWE could completely f*ck with the internet wrestling community and the sheets by using them to plant stories. It can't be too hard to instruct a few people on your payroll to talk to the sheets and notify them that Brock Lesnar just quit at the meeting and will be trying out for the NFL.

Wouldn't it get to the point where the sheets and wrestling sites would become completely unreliable because of the reputation of reporting "leaked info" which was totally false. Look how many times we've seen false Smackdown spoilers get posted? You are telling me the company itself can't be this clever and leak out false info to build interest in storylines and matches? The writers would pretty much have to go through a system of verifying sources before reporting anything in their newsletter or on their website. They would be so paranoid as to whether or not the info was accurate that they would hold off posting it!

Instead Vince goes on these pissing rages where he threatens the locker room to not talk to the Internet and dirtsheets, he bans photographers from ringside, kayfabes his company's website, etc. Just join in on all the games Vince. You can inject a lethal poison into their very existence by just messing with them.

The same applies to the media. Look at how much coverage they were able to get from the Billy/Chuck angle? Everyone can be worked.
