Halle Gets Sexy in 'Catwoman'

Mar 11, 2:10 PM EST

Associated Press

Halle Berry is promising to out-sex Michelle Pfeiffer when she stars as "Catwoman" this summer.

In "Catwoman," Berry is an artist who gains feline-esque power and agility in this spinoff of DC Comics' "Batman."

Berry said there's a reason why the Caped Crusader's nemesis looked like Pfeiffer the last time — and now, she'll look like her. Berry said her costume is more provocative than the one Pfeiffer wore in "Batman Returns" in 1992.

"This new Catwoman's a little more 2004," Berry told reporters.

"The costume is a little bit more sexy than the costumes of the past. She's a little bit more urban. And it will make her like the other ones but somehow different at the same time."

As for confusion as to how many Catwomen there are, Berry reminded everyone that cats have nine lives.

"We're not presenting that I am the only Catwoman," Berry explained. "I'm one of nine Catwomen. We believe that there are nine Catwomen in this life. And I'm one of them. I would be the sixth or the fifth one.

"And so, there are scenes where we talk about that really great Catwoman on the East Coast, which is supposed to be Michelle Pfeiffer."

In the 2001 film "Monster's Ball," the then 34-year-old Berry became the first black to win a best-actress Oscar playing a death row widow involved with a white ex-prison guard (Billy Bob Thornton) who helped put her husband to death.

Filming of "Catwoman" has just been completed and the movie is due out July 30.

Oh yeah...that fills me with so much hope for the movie.

This movie is strictly made for "casual fans," which will greatly alienate the so-called "fanboys." I don't see it doing well because of this factor (among others).

Do well as in bringing in casual viewers or bringing in "fanboys".

Unfortunaly, it'll likely do well amoungst casual viewers.

I feel the movie industry greatly underestimates the core fans of a certain concept (ie Catwoman). The internet fan community increases every year; and with that, the exchange of ideas. Fans can now rally against something they don't like in great numbers. The total lack of respect the makers of this film have for the source material will hurt this film. I see this as being the film equivalent of the TV series "Birds of Prey." Not respecting the source material greatly hurt that series.

"Catwoman" will probably have a somewhat large opening weekend and then quickly die down. That's my prediction, anyway.

Well...she played a sexier drug addict than Michelle so I am banking on her being able to be a sexy catwoman.

Pfieffer's sexiness in that role was not based on her actual looks, so much as it was on ACTING.

In that department, Berry is nowhere close to Michelle.

I wouldn't say no where near. Berry in Jungle Fever, BEST FEMALE DRUG ADDICT EVER. PERFECT performance.

ANd while I think the Monsters Ball was quite the shittacular movie she gave a great performance.

But I haven't seen Michelle phone in a performance, while Halle has Swordfish(and the pointless nudity shot of DOOM), Flinstones, and others where you could literally tell she wasn't trying.

But still Halle in Losing Isaiah/Jungle Fever > Michelle in Scarface for the battle of drug addicts.

I don't think Halle will have a better performance as Catwoman, because, honestly, Michelles performance in Batman Returns was incredible...but Halle has that raw sexiness that she MIGHT be considered more sexy.

Berry was good in Jungle Fever, but that was quite a few years ago, when she was still struggling to make a name for herself, AND with a director who is very talented.

She's regressed quite a bit since then, she's working with an unproven director, in a film with a script that EVERYONE has called garbage from the beginning, in an absurd Catwoman costume.

It's not impossible, but HIGHLY improbable that she would be anywhere as good as Michelle was in BR. She NAILED the part better than I've seen ANY comic villain with the possible exception of McKellen's Magneto.

Well, Berry is a method actor. And this is the kid of role she could get all...methody with. It all depends if she phones it in or not.

"Flintstones"

...well, to be honest, I don't think that's the movie you should be even bothering to act in, because the people who are going to be watching it won't be able to tell the difference anyway.

The rest I won't defend; don't really like Halle.

And the costume she's wearing is so ridiculous she's already fighting an uphill battle.

So basically, Catwoman will be like Jessica Alba's character from Dark Angel?

They should have just got Heather Hunter and made this into a porn film.

Oh come on...there was nothing wrong with Dark Angel aside from the bad acting, scripts and plot. Nothing at all.

Ugh.

Normally I like to wait and judge a movie after I've seen it.

But in this case I'll make an exception.

I'm totally convinced this movie is going to suck. I don't care about how sexy the costume is. I care about how accurate the character is.

I would rather have seen them do a movie with Pfieffer's Catwoman. Even if Pfieffer isn't involved, she made it into a very interesting character.

I'd much rather they put Catwoman into the NEW Batman franchise or use her current character (in the comics). In any case, there are PLENTY of choices better than Halle Berry.

Hell ever since Batman Returns first came out in '92 there was talks, plans, rumors, whatever of Tim Burton doing a Catwoman movie with Pfieffer but, for whatever reason it never. I think it would have rocked if they did.

I still want Keaton to return with Pfeiffer and pick that universe up. I don't care how old they've gotten, I think it might still be worth a shot.

I don't think WB realizes that by making this crapfest, they're destroying their chances of bringing Catwoman into the new BATMAN universe they are esablishing with BATMAN BEGINS.

Which sucks.

Eh, I wasn't really a fan of the Burton universe (except when I was much younger). I'm happy they're going with a NEW universe and franchise. I'm curious to see where Nolan will take the character. He seems like a true fan of Batman.

But I do agree that "Catwoman" may inadvertently hurt the new Batman franchise.

Which does, indeed, suck.

Oh, don't get me wrong. I'm one of the biggest proponents of the new direction. I'm super psyched about the new movie. BUT, there's a soft spot in my heart for the Keaton/Pfeiffer chemistry.
