Ah I guess I understand some of that sentiment, but to me it seems like it's mostly anti-Ny sentiment as opposed to baseball. Or maybe I'm just crazy. EVIL~! alkeiper 0 Report post Posted March 24, 2004 He's 21 years old. He just finished up a season in high A St. Lucie, hitting 270/369/459. Lots of doubles, which usually become home runs. Stole 19 bases last season, and draws walks. He's also a good defender. Alex Rodriguez left the New York Yankees' exhibition game Wednesday night after being hit in the face by a deflected ball at third base. And it was against the Boston Red Sox, the team that tried and failed to land him this winter before the Yankees managed to work out a deal to acquire the reigning AL MVP and move him to third base from shortstop, his natural position. Brian Daubach was on first base when Kevin Millar doubled to left field. Hideki Matsui fielded the ball and threw to third, but the ball hit Daubach on the leg as he slid and ricocheted into Rodriguez's face below his left eye. Yankees trainer Gene Monahan ran out to tend to Rodriguez and lead him off the field. I don't get why there's a pre-season. If teams don't have everything together by the time training camp ends, they aren't ready period. Ugh... As for the Yanks, as of now this injury appears to only be a bruise. Hardly serious. In reality the only big injuries the Yankees had so far are Lieber (out til May), and Aaron Boone. Don't expect Giambi to hold up much longer either, and it is only a matter of time before Sheffield aggravates his injury. Kevin Brown has his arm specialist on speed-dial. Kevin Brown has his arm specialist on speed-dial. I don't think Sheffield and Giambi are especially injury prone. Giambi's topped 150 games every year since 1997. Age might break them down. EVIL~! alkeiper 0 Report post Posted March 25, 2004 You know, all the talk about Kevin Brown being injury prone is kind of silly. Brown made 19 starts in 2001, and 10 in 2002. He had back surgery in 2002, so obviously a back related injury effected him those two years. But lets look behind those years. Starting in 1991: 33, 35, 34, 25, 26, 32, 33, 35, 35, 33, 19, 10, 32. Those are Brown's games started totals. Outside of 2001-02, he has not missed any considerable time. Last season he had no reoccurance of back troubles, and finished second in the league in ERA. I've NEVER seen him have any kind of arm trouble. I just don't see Brown as especially injury prone. Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

I dont really know how he's doing, but I read something from a New york newspaper about how they expect him to be promoted to the major league in a few years Good news: He's an absolutely terrific third base prospect. John Sickels rates him an A-, and lists him as the 9th best position prospect in baseball. Baseball Prospectus is even more generous, rating him as the 5th best prospect in baseball, and optimistic that he'll contend for the 2005 Rookie of the Year award. A true stud. Bad news: He's in the METS' organization. Thats interesting... last I heard was that he was playing for the Staten Island Yankees about 6 months ago but I havent heard anything since... I never liked him, but if he makes it, it'll be really cool to tell the grandkids. I remember a few days before graduation, when it was announced, they had a press conference down on the practice field with several Yankee reps and they were clocking his fast balls at about an average 98 mph.
