I didn't say it should be outlawed because it's unpopular. It should be outlawed because there is no legal justification for it. Yeah, I'm not arguing it's "extreme", simply because I find it difficult to label something that half of America supports as "extreme". But, I do think it's incredibly unnecessary, and I believe that any amendment that restricts our rights and citizens is probably an ill advised amendment. What "rights" are denied? Homosexuals can't have long-term committed relationships right now? Short answer: you're denying an entire group a right allowed by every state's laws. Short solution: privatize marriage. Why are tax breaks of ANY sort given to heterosexual married couples? Because they can bear children and need the help to raise them. That some hetero couples do not do this is immaterial. Homosexual couples CANNOT do this. They can still be faithful to one another. They can still find somebody to "marry" them and express their devotion to one another in front of the world. And oh for god's sakes, who the hell let a gay marriage arguement break out in this thread? I was looking forward to some good ol' fashioned contrast and comparison of Presidents viewed as extreme.
