Some TNA News From The Powell Report

Recommended Posts

-Jeff Jarrett held a meeting with the wrestlers prior to last night's NWA-TNA pay-per-view. Jarrett said he is aware of the various rumors floating around about a potential television deal, but said he would not address the issue until the time is right. Meanwhile, the rumors in the locker room are that the company is still negotiating with Fox Sports Network. The plan is still to tape the shows on Thursdays at Universal Studio in Florida, and sources believe the show will actually air late Friday afternoon or Saturday morning. The strategy is to not only save money, but also to avoid conflicts with the network's regional sports coverage.

-X Division Champion Chris Sabin will be out of action for at least eight weeks due to a knee injury. No word as to whether TNA is going to strip Sabin of the X Title. I think he's only defended the belt once or twice since winning it in January anyway. Sabin has still been working the TNA shows, but he's been lost in the America's X Cup shuffle.

-More than one TNA wrestler is upset that Julio Dinero is being left off the shows because of the fight that took place between his tag team partner C.M. Punk and Teddy Hart. "Julio never bitched and the poor guy was let go because of Punk," said one wrestler. Despite the wrestler's claim, I don't believe Julio or Punk have actually been released from their deals, but clearly management is hot at Punk for his role in the fight. Insiders say management is going light on Teddy Hart because they believe Punk started the fight, but no one seems to know why Julio is being left home.

-TNA wrestlers have been chuckling at Jack Evans behind his back for coming off like a lackey for Teddy Hart. "The only thing Jack ever says is 'Yeah' after Teddy says something," one wrestler said while laughing. "He just backs up whatever Teddy says and keeps to himself otherwise."

-TNA officials are planning to bring in different wrestlers to compete for Team Japan in the X Cup challenge. I believe Nosowa will still be part of the team, but he may be the only remaining member at this point.

Yes, only now you're competing with people's personal lives. Sorry, but my Saturday mornings are already owned by TMNT and another wrestling promotion: the Muscle League. Friday afternoon is when most that would watch the show are either preparing for work or are preparing to go out for the night (be it a date or a movie or just hanging out with friends). Why not have a late, LATE night Saturday timeslot? The rating would probably be the same, if not higher, because then people would be home, more likely. Most stay up late on Saturday nights and sleep in on Sunday mornings.

Yes, yes he has been. I'm sorry that he's injured, because the guy really is a great wrestler in the making. He has the in-ring charisma few have and most aspire for (honestly, he can't talk, but he has this "feeling" to him when in the ring, much like Rob Van Dam, that makes your average fan want to watch him), and has the talent that is just waiting to be nurtured into something more.

Honestly, when Teddy Hart has more heat in the overall wrestling world than CM Punk, I'd think it's time to just let them brawl it out by themselves, and come to a solid conclusion. While I think Punk was dumb in instigating a fight against both a trained wrestler and a trained boxer, I also feel that some bitches need slapping (ie. Hart). Julio being left out doesn't bother me, as I'm not a big fan of his (although he has a GREAT look now as a pseudo-goth/metalhead guy, and I'm LOVIN' the Strapping Young Lad shirts), but to get rid of Punk over one incident with a guy that isn't even on your full-time roster? Bullshit.

Meh, fluff.

MARUFUJI AND KENTA. MAKE IT HAPPEN, TNA. MAKE. IT. HAPPEN.

Ha...still watch TMNT are ye? Tsk Tsk Tsk. I'm just kidding, I'd watch too if I knew how to wake up before 3pm.

And I wonder what the Muscle League is. All I get is NACW, USA Championship Wrestling, IWA Puerto Rico, and soon Maximum Pro Wrestling, and sadly ALL are bunched together on the same day and time frame between 10pm-1am.

I want better range of timeslots damn it! 5 hours (including Xplosion) of decent stuff to complete crap is too much for my tape collection in 1 day.

He means Ultimate Muscle. Remember the muscle men back in the 80's well there back..just in cartoon form. I thought it was Hart who asked Punk to step outside, so how does that mean Punk started it?

I can't wait to see how this TV thing plays out. I don't know what they're thinking in terms of tapings and timeslots...but it seems like (unlike the WGN talks) TNA is actually trying to think things through a little.

I still don't know what to make of the Punk situation. I assume they'll book them back on the show sooner or later, and if Punk wants to come back...that'll be the end of that. If he doesn't...then that's his choice. The whole thing is stupid. It happened, it's over, let's move on. Furthermore...it kind of blows that it happened when it did...as Punk and Julio could have been favorites in the tag tournament and gotten a really solid push in the tag division.

Oh well...

I think the safe bet would be The Naturals winning the tournament, with Julio/Punk in the tournament or not.

But I want my Gathering back Damn IT~!

I mean, I don't want to take all the blame from Punk in this situation but why would TNA book two guys that clearly had potential to have this happen? Wouldn't it partly be in the companies best interest to NOT have things like this happen? Don't get me wrong, Punk deserves his fair share of the blame, but so does Teddy and TNA for this too.

People hate punk becuase he's their moral surperior. Or something. He's probibly just to vocal and un-reserved, if that makes sense. In his journal, at least, he seems to speak his mind without worrying about what others think.

CM Punk is just another professional wrestler who gets hazy and forgets that it's fake and he thinks he really is a tough guy in real life. Then he tries to fight a trained boxer and is made to look like a chump.

I think the main reason that Punk is in such hot water is because they got into a fight in a public area. It's bad for TNA to have their wrestlers brawling in the streets of Nashville before shows. Had it happened in the locker room they probably wouldn't care nearly as much.

I called Noswa on team Japan in the other thread

I predicted it like four weeks ago

TNA seems to be high on NOSAWA, or he just lives close enough (in the states at least) to be called back every now and then.

Hmmm....the British/Canadian trained tough guy who is a fantastic wrestler but a total prick with a lesser known, younger British up and comer being his lackey.

Huzzah Dynamite and Davey all over again. :P

I like Punk. I'm a Punk fan. I think Hart needs his ass kicked, and I wouldn't be displeased if Punk was the guy to do that for him.

That said, I'm a bit pissed off at Punk, because he's pretty much fucked up his spot at national exposure for some stupid indy feud. Was it worth it? I hope when he's sitting home on Wednesday nights, he feels that it was.

I hope Punk will be sitting at home in a few years, remembering when he worked for TNA, and then he'll look over at the TV and see his image on it, be it for WWE or RoH (should they get a TV deal eventually, although highly doubtful that they EVER will), and then he'll remember that he's getting more exposure and money than most people on the TNA roster because he's on FREE TV...yeah.

Nah, Punk will be back in TNA one day. If Sabu, who burned bridges twice, can return, then so can Punk. Wasn't Teddy the one that basically said "let's go outside"?

They'll ask him back shortly. Whether he wants to come back is up to him. My guess is that they're "making an example" out of Punk to let everyone know that they have to act extra proffessional while Fox Sports is evaluating everything.

If they weren't on edge over this TV thing...I bet nothing would have even been said past "Don't do that, please".
