Graphics question

For the last three years I've had the job of doing graphic design and layout stuff for my high school jazz band's annual recordings. Armed with Photoshop, Quark, and a good pool of creativity and resources to draw from, I've put out what I'd consider to be three good CDs.

 

This year, my senior year, we've hit a little bump in the process. Despite my hard work and dedication, my director inexplicably favors a girl who isn't as hard-working and dedicated. She decided it would be a good idea to do a parody of the Brady Bunch with the seniors' faces. Director LOVED it, thought it was the greatest thing he ever heard.

-I explained to him that such an idea wouldn't be easy to transfer from idea to reality for various reasons, like the title and name of the band overlapping people's faces, which would make them cry. Also, there's no design element readily supplied for the inside liner notes, or back cover.

-Also, last year's artwork had been a grid of photographs, though well-produced with color tinting in a Wish You Were Here style with the red, blue, yellow and green. Thus, it would be doing last year's cover again, just less artistic and more self-indulgent.

-And 70s nostalgia has passed us by and we're now loving the 80s: Shouldn't we be doing Just The Ten Of Us instead? Maybe the giant board for Press Your Luck?

 

And I hadn't even gotten to mentioning that the freshmen and juniors would be pissed that what's supposed to be a band's CD is being made to look like one done by eight people, who are all seniors but not all featured members.

 

I proposed something relating to the fact that we're opening a new band room in the next two weeks. We could have a title like "Sounds for a New Era" and do a motif like that. Last I heard, the matter has been tabled. That was three weeks ago. We need our CD recorded and designed by the middle of April to have it ready at the end of May. If you have any suggestions for artwork based on the limited background I've given you, like how to integrate the new room theme into a sharp little art package, or just reaffirm that I am right and they or wrong, or even vice versa, it'd be great if you did.

This girl: is she hot? If so, she is sleeping with the teacher. Go buy some spy gear and sneak into the school at night. Get pictures, lots of pictures, of them doing the nasty. Escape through the vents. Make the CD the way you want to.

Do a real "Wish You Were Here" and film the teacher running around on fire. Yeah, that's the ticket.

Do a rough CD cover using both ideas (hers and yours) and have people vote on which one they like better, since I'm guessing yours would look a lot better than hers. Besides, the Brady Bunch theme is extremely overused.

I think you should use some HR Geiger art for the cover and when someone asks you why nobody's face is on it, say "Vanity is so 1995."

Do concepts of both and ask peole what they think of them and then say stuff like, well the principal liked the other one better. Or go making accusations about people sleeping around with students.....

 

This is really one of thoe points where its, do what they tell you cause it's stupid, but thats what the customner wants shit.
