The Czech Republic 0 Report post Posted March 24, 2004 Dropkick Murphys and Flogging Molly are my favorite two Celtic-punk hybrid bands.
PLAGIARISM! 0 Report post Posted March 24, 2004 Get some early Wire, Pink Flag and Chairs missing both absolutely rule. The newest, last year's Send is brilliant as well, you couldn't call it punk but they stick to all the principles they had back then, creating great soundscapes out of nothing more than simplistic rock. and for that, they absolutely rule. The most overlooked of all punk bands.
Guest Agent of Oblivion Report post Posted March 24, 2004 I prefer punk rockers that are sloshed and puking on themselves and others, generally. GG Allin and The Damned are ok by me. I like Crass, too. That band originally started with drums, vocals, and a guy running a projector. That's kind of a neat mix of shit, really.

moral suasion 0 Report post Posted March 25, 2004 I don't think that anybody else has mentioned NOFX or Rancid yet. in regards to NOFX. in regards to Rancid. That is the most backwards thing I have ever heard. What have you heard of NOFX and what have you heard of Rancid that gives you that opinion? Rancid may be more popular because they have the look, but NOFX is a far superior punk band. Rancid used to be great. AND OUT COME THE WOLVES and LETS GO are classics. But thier last 3 albums have bombed. Pure shit. Also, I believe thier last video featured Kelly Osbourne and Good Charolette. Cool. NOFX are arguably the greatest modern punk band of this era. Ever listen to THE DECLINE? PUNK IN DRUBLIC and SO LONG AND THANKS FOR ALL THE SHOES are also definative albums in the genre. Compare both bands most recent albums. INDESTRUCTABLE which is pure shit vs THE WAR ON ERRORISM which is genius. Seriously, Tim Armstrong and Lars Fredrickson should kiss the ground Fat Mike walks on. He is a superior musician, lyricist, and person. Moving the topic on, I am suprised that no one has mentioned Bad Religion yet. Greg Graffin is far and away the best lyricist of any punk band ever. Yes, thier sound is more melodic than "punk", but they are THE most influential punk band of the past 20 years. They made every punk band that is playing today. For anyone interested in listening to Bad Religion, check out thier most recent album, THE PROCESS OF BELIEF. Great Stuff.
Guest Fire and Knives Report post Posted March 25, 2004 Nobody mentioned them because I know who they are. And NOFX and Rancid sucked when they started. "Great modern punk band"? Sorry, thank you for playing. K. EDIT: AoO is currently better than all of you for representing with CRASS and GG Allin. Murder Junkies rock the fuck outta you. Guest Boomer Sprinklespax Report post Posted March 25, 2004 I like The Queers a lot, but their live albums are way, way better than their studio ones.

EDIT: AoO is currently better than all of you for representing with CRASS and GG Allin. Murder Junkies rock the fuck outta you. First of all, I'm the one that brought up Crass ... and second of all, GG Allin is a cliche now. (well, technically he's a corpse, but ...) I'd consider GG to be more of a performance artist than a punk, plus his music was far more hardcore than punk, and musically all of his bands were atrocious. If you'd rather listen to the Murder Junkies or the Scumfucks than real punk banks, well, there's not much I can offer you to make you like punk rock again. The guy was a no talent loser and his band was shit. He was more freakshow than 'performance artist'.

Anorak 0 Report post Posted March 25, 2004 I like The Queers a lot, but their live albums are way, way better than their studio ones. I've always liked the general Lookout records sound (more punk-pop than 'Punk' really) and been fond of The Queers, alongside Screeeching Weasel, MTX, early Green Day etc. Never heard any live Queers stuff, i've always thought they did the poppier bubblegum stuff particularly well rather than their shoutier side. Man, punk has been dead for 20 years, you have to lower your standards a little bit. Rancid always has sucked, but NOFX is ok, whether they be punk or not. Guest Agent of Oblivion Report post Posted March 25, 2004 GG did things no other human would do solely because he just didn't give a fuck. Nothing's more punk than that. If I'm looking for "good" musicianship, I'll look elsewhere. Punk to me is sloppy, angry, and drunk.
Nevermortal 0 Report post Posted March 25, 2004 GG Allin ruled. Musicianship be damned. Anyone who's concerts end in 15 minutes or less because there's too much carnage and human debauchery is A-OK in my book.
