Tawren Posted March 24, 2004 Report Posted March 24, 2004 OK, two questions: 1) My dad recently re-installed Windows XP and got a virus scanner on it (AdAware). We have TONS of viruses. The thing keeps popping up saying "____ is infected", I'll hit delete, but the next time I log on, the same things come up. it doesn't work. Any advice? 2) How long does it take to clean a hard drive/put a new one in? What do I have to do? How does it work? For the record, I have my own computer...this is the family's computer with the problem (my siblings love Kazaa). Thanks in advance...
MrRant Posted March 24, 2004 Report Posted March 24, 2004 Well... 1. Adaware is NOT a virus scanner. It detects Spyware and Adware. Check the Things You Need thread for a free virus scanner. 2. Formatting and reinstalling Windows takes about 2ish hours. You put in the XP CD... reboot and then it will give you the option to format your HD... do so and then install.
Tawren Posted March 24, 2004 Author Report Posted March 24, 2004 Thanks for answering so quick. But now I'm even more confused. AdAware is always popping up saying I have Trojans, but PC Flank just said I have none. Which should I believe? I'm very bad on computers, aside from the net.
MrRant Posted March 24, 2004 Report Posted March 24, 2004 Download one of the virus scanners listed to start and update it and then scan the computer and see what it detects.
razazteca Posted March 24, 2004 Report Posted March 24, 2004 Maybe the "trojans" are only software that searches for updates of programs like say Norton or Windows so it might be friendly/useful and not harmful?
