Dillinger's new singer kicked me in the dome

So yeah, I saw The Dillinger goddamned Escape Plan last night, in what was one of the most frenzied chaotic moments of my life, and the new lead singer leapt out and landed on the railing I was right up against, thus kicking me right in the jaw before standing there for a second to shriek. I was seriously impressed by this guy, and cannot wait for the new album in July.

They played half of the DEP/Patton ep, with this guy hitting the Patton parts almost perfectly. Totally astounding. Also played a few tracks off the new album. They sound appropriately sick as hell.

The crowd was really quite tiny. Only 150 tickets pre-sold, according to the security guy. Probably ended up at about 400 in-house by the end of the night.

The opening bands, Merciana, and As Seen by Man (or some bullshit) were tremendously horrific, and I can't imagine why they were even there, aside from possibly friendships and label/mgt. ties being involved.

Merciana was really pussed out emo-core, with a janky kind of guitar rock sound in there, and the second band was just some amp-climbing mildly spiritual screamfest. Energetic if totally common.

DEP was well worth the 16 bucks I spent on my ticket. They're in the midwest headed east right now, and never cease kicking ass from the moment they pick up their instruments to the moment they stop playing them for the night.

Where the hell do you live again? I refuse to believe that, because I live in bumblefucky, Indiana, and I get at least 4 or 5 rip-ass shows a year. Granted, I might have to hit the road for about 4 hours to get to one, but still..

DEP played at Gig on the Green in Scotland two years ago, and the fans were NOT amused.

They were total shit, and the 'You Are Shit !' chants backed that fact up. It's amazing how many people actually stayed to watch them. I happened to be having a seat when they were on.

That's because the people chanting like crap, probably. Dillinger is too effing good. It's not their fault some folks can't keep up.

Where I live there are 3 cities within 8 hours of each other north to south that would be interested in having a band like DEP, however to get to this area you have a 12 hour drive from the next location to the west and probably the same to the east. And Montana to the south. A band needs a real nice payday waiting round here in order to hop in a van for a loop like that.

And i guess nobody makes that offer
