Jobber of the Week 0 Report post Posted April 1, 2004 Oh, and two other things about this "news" piece. 1) She called O'Reilly a conservative ROFLOLOLOLMAO2004
Guest MikeSC Report post Posted April 1, 2004 Oh good God. My better half has a local news broadcast on and the anchor babe just said the following: "Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity have some new competition from a new liberal talk radio station. You may not hear yet in Pittsburgh, but you will be hearing a lot about it." Truer words have never been spoken. No joke, NBC did a fluff piece on the network, but did mention that there is a SMALL difference in audience size: Rush has over 600 stations; Air America has SIX. Nice of them to give an entire fluff piece to a SIX STATION LARGE NETWORK. Then again, they also mentioned the girl who won the nat'l high school slam dunk contest (which was a joke, mind you) as if it were truly momentous. When conservatives mention a possible liberal slant to the news, this is what we mean. Oh, and two other things about this "news" piece. 1) She called O'Reilly a conservative and lumped him in with Rush, which shoots down any credibilty a person has with me when talking about Bill. You can diss O'Reilly all you want, say that he's harder on Dems than Republicans, but to put him side-by-side with Limbaugh is like Howard Stern saying Michael Savage is "pro-Bush." Heck, these people are every inch as bad as Michael Savage ever was. 2) She forgot to mention that the Democrat Party is funding this. In addition I also saw the entire bit the "Today Show" had on Ed Schultz. Nice puff piece there, NBC. I'm shocked beyond all belief regarding the media coverage of the OMG HOTAIR AMERICA LOL2004!... I still vote for BORING2004LOL! -=Mike
Guest MikeSC Report post Posted April 1, 2004 Think they'll mention this ever? Air America Will Displace Black Talk On WLIB By Karen Juanita Carrillo | SACOBSERVER.COM WIRE SERVICES NEW YORK (NNPA) - New York's radio station WLIB-1190 AM has been loyally "serving New York's Black community" - as its logo states - for decades now. In the early '90s WLIB was lauded as a resource for "Afrocentric" programming and became known for featuring Imhotep Gary Byrd's "Global Black Experience" show. By the end of March, New York's WLIB-1190 AM will taken over by "Air America Radio," a predominantly White, liberal talk-radio network. The station was in many ways a Black activist outlet. But by the end of this month, WLIB will be taking on a different hue, as it joins the launch of Progress Media's "Air America Radio," the new, predominately White, liberal talk-radio network. Air America has reportedly partnered with Inner City Broadcasting Corporation (ICBC), which owns WLIB. "We are excited about the diverse and important voices Air America Radio is bringing to the airwaves, both on our own WLIB signal and others," said ICBC Chairman Pierre Sutton. "This strategic partnership allows both companies to combine our resources and deliver relevant messages to a broad and diverse audience." Sutton added, "That's what you call 'high-class B.S.!'" one former WLIB staffer said when told that Sutton said the station's changes were necessary because African Americans had just stopped listening to WLIB. The former staffer, who spoke on condition of anonymity, insisted that if WLIB's talk shows were promoted the way conservative talk shows are - and the way Air America's shows will be - the station would have made money. Air America Radio plans on using what it terms a roundup of "progressive activists" and "celebrities" as part of the activist left's efforts to counter the national popularity of White, Right-wing conservative talk shows and radio personalities. The network will begin broadcasting shows from across the country on March 31 over WLIB and radio stations WNTD in Chicago and Los Angeles' KBLA. "I don't get it. I mean, I do not get it," local activist Elombe Brath said about Air America Radio's takeover at WLIB. Reports are that WLIB's 40th floor station has been remodeled for Air America, and that the 30th and 39th floors are also being re-built to suit the needs of the new network. Brath, who hosts and produces the show "Afrikaleidoscope" on WBAI-FM, and who played a part in the Afrocentric reorganization of WLIB's programming back in the early 1980s, complained that if listenership was down at WLIB, the station should have restructured from within as it did in the 1980s. "All of the talk should be organic, from within the Black community," Brath insisted. "How can they think about coming into New York with a package program like this? We have people here already who know radio, who can do shows. And they want to come in with a program from other people trying to talk to Black people in New York City? (WLIB) is just a station that has been stripped of what it's supposed to be!" In its heyday, WLIB and shows like "Night Talk with Bob Law" on WWRL-AM, Samori Marksman's "Worldview" on WBAI-FM, Bob Slade's "Open Line" on WKRS-FM, and WWRL's "Drive Time Dialogue" formed part of its own advocacy radio network. They highlighted Black community health concerns, cultural awareness and political activities. Many have even claimed that WLIB's efforts helped to get out the vote for David Dinkins as he ran to become New York City's first Black mayor. But now as WLIB joins with Air America Radio, plans are to keep only a few of the station's leading Black radio personalities. Mark Riley will be a co-host on "Uprising," Air America's 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. show, while Dahved Levy, Ann Tripp and news director Wayne Gilman will also remain with the station. Air America Radio's featured on-air personality will be Al Franken, a comedian who helped create NBC's "Saturday Night Live" and who recently wrote the book "Lies and the Lying Liars Who Tell Them: A Fair and Balanced Look at the Right," a scathing anti-FOX News, anti-Bill O'Reilly book that became a best-seller. Alongside Franken, Air America Radio will feature comedienne Janeane Garofalo; environmental activist Robert F. Kennedy Jr.; author and activist Laura Flanders; Lizz Winstead, a co-creator of "The Daily Show"; radio personalities Mark Riley and Randi Rhodes; and political humorist Sam Seder. Chuck D, lead rapper for the group Public Enemy, was initially announced as part of the Air America Radio staff, but sources now say that the hip-hop icon is backing away from that commitment. "I don't know how Air America is going to broaden the reaches of 'LIB," said one radio personality who chose to speak anonymously about the situation. "How is this going to impact the Black community? As far as I've heard, they've got a couple of Whites who just really want to go after Sean Hannity, Bill O'Reilly and all the others. You can't convince me that that's going to be something good for Black and Hispanic people." Brath agreed with that analysis: "You've got people here in New York who believe in Black culture, so I don't see why they're ... they're like outsourcing in a sense. In reality what the station needs is to have some people who know the community and can speak to its needs." http://www.sacobserver.com/news/032304/wli...ica_radio.shtml -=Mike
Jobber of the Week 0 Report post Posted April 1, 2004 Heh. There's actually a black talk station on this radio next to the liberal talk station, but it was a little too, eh, unrefined? An actual station promo: "BLAAAAAACK TAAAAALK! 24 HOUR BLAAAAACK TALLLLLLLK! NATIONWIDE 24 HOUR BLAAAACK TAAAAALLLLLLK! UNCENSORED NATIONWIDE 24 HOUR BLAAAAACK TAAAAAAALK!" ...And yes, it actually held those words like that. That and the host I heard likely didn't have much previous radio experience, as he was abusing ebonics out the ying-yang.

Fox News does fluff interviews with the likes of a 14 year old Canadian girl who got booed by a couple students for wearing an American flag outfit at school. That's even dumber to me, yet you're watching it and I'm not.

Jobber of the Week 0 Report post Posted April 1, 2004 You eloquence-ist! -=Mike More like I was disappointed they went and catered to the lowest common denominator. For all I know, at night there might be a decent guy, but the host I heard probably would have opened with "Yo, yo, yo, yo, YO!!!!" if I was listening at the start of the program. Guest MikeSC Report post Posted April 1, 2004 So far I've been listening for 29 minutes and got the following: God is a liar, Republicans have no souls/fascists and Fox News sucks. Wow. Basically, it's the stereotypes liberals claim Republicans say about them --- without really mentioning too many people who actually say them --- and spouting off the same ones about Republicans to a marginal audience. -=Mike ...As I am fond of saying, I'd call it intellectual masturbation, but I have too much respect for masturbation to do that

RIGHT-WING RAG. Heck, with the shocking paradigm shift, FAUXNEWSLOL2004! is now, legitimately, "Fair and balanced", when compared to the sheer pro-GOP propaganda that NPR spouts off on a daily basis. -=Mike ...Who is still stunned that a board he doesn't visit doesn't like him --- but is too darned lazy to honestly give much of a damn about it

Guest MikeSC Report post Posted April 1, 2004 The reason HD doesn't like you is because you post whore, and you post fluff. Post whore? English, please? Post fluff? As to the hard-hitting, deep-thought that is SO prevalent in that dank corner of a public restroom? I said I was stunned. I didn't say I CARED. World of difference. BTW, do you follow me around or something to see what I post? I mean, you NEVER post here. Ever. Except this one time. Odd... Oh, wear it as a badge of honor. Guest thebigjig Report post Posted April 1, 2004 Are we having a OMGLIBERALCONSERVATIVEBORING2004!!!! - off here?? I know it's used as way of mocking and sarcasm... but it's REALLY getting annoying Anyway, here are my thoughts. I've been listening for the last hour and it's really not all that bad, even though there is obviously room for improvement. It's 100 x more entertaining and informative than an average Limbaugh show (this is coming from someone that worshipped him several years ago) but it is getting pretty repetative... I dont know... I wish them the best. Why? Not because I'm a liberal, but because I think the left SHOULD have a voice. I've noticed a very sad trend among alot of conservatives, in that they really dont want anyone else to think differently or for the left to have a voice at all. It's the basic big bully pushing the little kid around because he thinks differently, scenario I probably wont listen to this much, because I hate ALL talk radio. I dont know about you, but I really cant stand to hear anti-republican or anti-democrat bile for 8 hours during the day

CanadianChris 0 Report post Posted April 1, 2004 Think they'll mention this ever? Air America Will Displace Black Talk On WLIB I actually read something on a message board last week to this effect (without all the angry quotes, of course). What I found funny was that they pulled the plug on the Caribbean format because African-American radio doesn't draw advertising money...and they replaced it with something that has no real advertisers to speak of. Having listened to AAR a couple of times today, I can't for the life of me see how they can make an honest go of this. The show quality is mediocre to poor, and I can't see how advertisers would be impressed with their target demographic anyway, even if the shows were top-notch. Guest thebigjig Report post Posted April 1, 2004 the JG show right now is really annoying... it has no flow what so ever and it just reminds me of a few "think they know everything about how the world works" college kids spouding nonstop liberalism "I just dont understand why everyone got so upset about the janet jackson thing... when there are soldiers dying in Iraq every day!" My first thought at that comment... is... duh.
