Downhome 0 Report post Posted March 29, 2004 Check out the main site! I finally got around to checking this one out, and I was very happy with what I saw. If you like any sort of zombie movie, the Evil Dead series, Dead Alive, and stuff like that then you really need to check this Australian flick out sometime. I don't know what the budget was exactly, but it is said to have been very little, but by watching the film you never could just guess such as that. They did a great job on such a small budget. They did better than some films that I've seen that had a huge budget. The Spierig Brothers did a great job on every aspect of this, from the lighting, effects, sound effects, score, and on and on. This is a B-movie zombie movie, and every single thing about it makes sure you understand that. Well, everything but the effects, that is just great. The acting is fine also, aside from a little problem that I had with the main cop in the film. Just like in other films like this, it's just "too" over the top for me. Everyone else did great in my opinion. What's so odd though, is that this is really unlike any other zombie type movie that I've ever seen. I don't really want to say much about the plot and what happens, but just rest assured, it's very much a roller-coaster ride with things that you just don't expect to happen, happening left and right. It's just flat out a film that'll have you saying "holy crap, now that was bad ass" over and over again. Anyway, I'll just give you this description of the film, from the main site. Go check out the trailer, if you haven't already, because it's worth it. Just remember, this is a B-flick that KNOWS that it's a B-flick, and a damn good one at that. Peaceful, rustic Berkeley is a charming fishing community where life is sweet and the people friendly. All that is about to change. After losing her childhood farm to the bank, local beauty Rene decides to leave town and head for the big city. Suddenly, an avalanche of meteorites races through the sky, bombarding the town and bringing an otherworldly infection. Departing is going to be much more difficult than she had planned. The living dead are awakened and Rene is now caught in a nightmare of zombies hungry for human flesh. She manages to find salvation in a small isolated farm house owned by the town loony, Marion. There she is met with four other desperate survivors. Together they battle their way through a plague of walking dead and discover that there is more transpiring than just an infection. NoCalMike 0 Report post Posted March 29, 2004 I saw the trailer for this a looooong time ago and always wondered when it would get a US release. How can I get a hold of this movie without buying it or downloading it? Does netflix have it? Maybe it is time to finally sign up with them.
Downhome 0 Report post Posted March 29, 2004 I don't think it's got a DVD release yet, at least not in the US (Haute Tension is on DVD, but not in the US yet). I downloaded it, but I will be buying it whenever it is finally released here.

Downhome 0 Report post Posted March 29, 2004 I just read that it only cost 2Mil. to make this film. Wow. The Spierig Brothers better get to work on another horror film like this, or maybe a straight up sequel to this one. To do this kind of job on such a budget, they could do more great things for the genre.

Downhome 0 Report post Posted July 26, 2004 I got this DVD a few weeks ago, and have since went through a bit of the DVD. I rewatched the film and loved it just as much, and the special features are just great. Consider this just one more, final, bump for this film.
Vyce 0 Report post Posted July 26, 2004 It's region 4, though. Has there been a region 1 American release yet? I actually looked for this at the video rental place a week ago, and no dice.
Downhome 0 Report post Posted July 26, 2004 There hasn't been a R1 release, and I haven't heard anything solid about it yet. If you have a multi-region DVD player, and you might and not know it, I still say just go ahead and pick this one up. If I ever hear anything about a R1 release, I'll post it in this thread.
