Best and Worst Treatment of Title Belts?

Recommended Posts

Guest Man Of 1,004 Modes

Off Topic: I loved the way Bret wouls always give his title belt a kiss good bye. Felt like he actually cared about the titles.

Gotta love Hogan with the WWF Title around his waist. It ust looks good.

A Priceless picture would be Owen celebrating with the WWF Title raised above his head when he "won" the title from Bret in a Lumberjack Match. But it was over-turned and he eventually lost.

Did anyone ever hump a championship belt?

The belt probably couldn't even fit around his leg.

The best was Bret Hart. He generally wore it around his belt, except for publicity photos and whenever he took it off he would fold the straps back nice and carefully and be extremely cautious with it.

The worst is Steve Austin, but it was a part of his character so I'll let it pass. Rock is someone who acts like Austin with the belt much of the time, even though character-wise he should greatly care about it. So I will say him.

I didn't mind Chyna as a wrestler at times, but she should have NEVER been near the I-C title.

Someone GOT to find the Ultimo Dragon shot where he held 9 belts at once.

Where did 9 come from? I would find that a little hard to swallow.

I dunno. Could be the bias, but I thought her first reign was fine. Russo had all but killed the belt's credibility and while Chyna isn't the best wrestler out there, she was over enough and getting enough mainstream attention to make the belt look somewhat important again. It was quick and easy heat for the belt, and it did somewhat kickstart the I-C division in the upcoming months.

Her SummerSlam 2000 win and subsequent reign was the bad one, IMO. They had already established a nice little I-C division, and putting the belt on Chyna killed whatever momentum they were building.

Don't forget the Co-Intercontinental Championship reign of Jericho & Chyna.

The co-IC champs thing was such bullshit considering history dictates that a double-pin tie goes to the champion, who was Jericho.

Management had SUCH a hard-on for Chyna.

That was alright. They kept the focus on the belt and the angle only lasted a few weeks so it wasn't that bad.

Rock didn't put the belt around his waist because his charactor was that of being cool and in the rulebook of being cool putting the title around your waist is the ultimate in dorkness. Same reason why Cena, Diesil, Austin and whoever else can't wear it normally.

I never got that with RVD.

In ECW, he'd wear the belts around his waist all the time...yet in WWE, he never has.

Are the WWE Belt straps just a bit bigger than the ECW ones were?

here's the reason

When he was in ECW as the TV champion...He was allowed to stall/walk for a half an hour and pander to the crowd (even if he was a HEEL)...so he strapped it around his waist for comfort and to avoid theft attempt or something.

In WWE, The entire intro and Match and trip back to the hotel doesn't last as long as his Stalling intro did.

Nah, I'm pretty sure the I-C Title is the roughly the same size, if not smaller, than the ECW TV (the 1999-2001 version anyway)...and definitely smaller than the tag team belts.

I miss how Fonzie used to take the belts off of Rob during his ECW introductions. You know...

Announcer: He is one half of the ECW World Tag Team Champions...

*Fonzie removes the tag team belt*

...and the ECW World Television Champion...

*Fonzie runs back around and removes the TV belt*

It was a little thing, but I always thought that was pretty cool.

another thing I liked was how Rob Moved to the announcing of his name...unlike Lillian who just goes "ROB VAN DAM" really quick before he can even at least do the thumbs.

...that reminds me...I wish sometimes they'd try and go back to the ECW style of announcing the people of the match.

And yes, I know they sometimes use it in NWA-TNA, and they used to use it in both the original NWA and WWF/WWWF.

But my first exposure to that way of announcing came from ECW, so that's why I call it the ECW Style of Announcing.

I've always been a fan of...

Two wrestler enter...The announcers announce them...They stare down and get the rules.

WWE did it for Shawn/Bret and a few others...They should bring it back for the Main events for each show.
