Danville_Wrestling 0 Report post Posted April 6, 2004 I remember a week before the 1996 SummerSlam there was a 11 to 20 man battle royal on Monday Night Raw that Ahmed Johnson won outlasting Goldust I believe. The winner of that battle royal was supposed to go on and face whoever the WWF Champion was the night after SummerSlam. Now of course Ahmed had his kidney problem and there ended up being a four-man battle royal to fill the vacancy on like a special Raw where Goldust won eliminating Savio Vega. Nevertheless, was Ahmed supposed to win the title the night after SummerSlam? Anyone have any idea?

I kind of doubt it, as his habit of no selling, sloppy ring work, and rash of injuries would be more than enough to make Vince 2nd guess that choice (esp Since he just got rid of the Warrior for 2/3 of the same reasoning)
Guest drdrainoscott Report post Posted April 6, 2004 I would seriously doubt that Shawn would be willing to drop the title to Ahmed. That, after all, is the reason why he went over Vader at SS.
Guest Dynamite Kido Report post Posted April 6, 2004 I am saying there was NO WAY that Ahmed was going to win the title. If they were going to have HBK lose it to anyone, it would have been Vader.......
Guest Man Of 1,004 Modes Report post Posted April 6, 2004 I'll add my voice in. No Fucking Way. The plan was Vader going over at Summerslam and being champion up until It's Time, and maybe longer. But someone through a hissy fit and got on his knees for Vince to change that....TWICE. Ahmed Johnson was already injured BEFORE The Battle Royale I heard, so him winning was just to get some sympathy that he had his chance taken away.
JoeDirt 0 Report post Posted April 6, 2004 Ahmed was IC champ at the time, and the night he won the battle royal (it was taped on July 22) he was attacked post-match by a debuting Farooq. I'm guessing the HBK/Ahmed match would have ended in a no contest after interference by Vader and Farooq, and then they could have a tag match or something to build up their feuds. That's what I would guess, at least.
Papacita 0 Report post Posted April 7, 2004 Well, Vader was supposed to beat Shawn, and Faarooq was probably scheduled to go over Ahmed for the I-C Title, so if the match was scheduled to air the night after SummerSlam (and not the Raw Championship Friday show they aired after the US Open, which featured the Goldust/Michaels match), then I can see Ahmed going over via DQ or something in order to set up a rematch for Mind Games, where Vader would probably go over. Not a dream match by any means, but Ahmed was pretty over in 96/early 97, so I can see it happening.

Guest Man Of 1,004 Modes Report post Posted April 10, 2004 Its a shame about Ahmed. I was a huge mark for him. I guess you mark out for losers huh? Ahmed Johnson? Loser. Brock Lesnar? Super Loser. Rico? Loser-Loser. Victoria? Female Loser. Jackie Gayda: BLEH!!!!! [/evil heel mode] On a serious note, Ahmed was fine and dandy, but he was never good in the ring, even by my mark 96 standards, and was terrible in promos. Where did you hear that from? He wasn't willing to drop it to Vader, but he was willing to drop it to Sid, "the biggest piece of luggage in wrestling"? Yeah, he liked Sid better, so he convinced Vince to let him drop the title to him instead of Vader. It was supposed to be on Vader...why else do you think the December IYH was called "It's Time" and didn't even feature Vader on it?

Okay, Vader was supposed to win it, where does he didn't because Shawn liked Sid better come from? "The biggest piece of luggage in wrestling who needs to be carried all the time" isn't exactly something you call someone that you like.
