Guest Man Of 1,004 Modes Report post Posted April 11, 2004 I still don't get the hate for Clemens, and I'm a yankee fan. Sure, his retiring for about 3 months was shitty, but most of the blame could be put on Andy Pettitte and his family pushing for him to keep playing. If Clemens was hell bent on playing another season, why did he wait until January to sign a contract with anyone? That only gave him about a months notice before spring training. I'm not going to "Turn my back" on a player I like and respect just because he changed his mind. People do it all the time. So I'll probably get heat for cheering Rocket when he played San Francisco this week. ON another note: I think the player inducted into the HoF DOES have a choice to go in with a certain team. And if Nolan Ryan went in as a RANGER (a team he played maybe 4-5 years with), then Clemens cna go in as a Blue Jay or Yankee.
Vern Gagne 0 Report post Posted April 11, 2004 Catfish Hunter wears a generic cap. Mel Ott doesn't even wear a hat. Same goes for Cy Young, Jesse Burkett, and others from the early days of the game.
Guest Anglesault Report post Posted April 11, 2004 I still don't get the hate for Clemens, and I'm a yankee fan. He's a liar. That's good enough for me If Clemens was hell bent on playing another season, why did he wait until January to sign a contract with anyone? To continue the illusion that he intended to retire. No one who was honest about his intentions to retire could be back within a year. Clemens cna go in as a Blue Jay or Yankee. I'd rather not tarnish the Yankee wing of the Hall. He had his chance. He gave it up.

I believe it was due to Wade Boggs receiving a deal to wear a Devil Rays cap in the Hall.
Some Guy 0 Report post Posted April 12, 2004 All I know is that he will NEVER EVER ever the Hall of Fame as a Red Sox. The Plaque could read... "Roger Clemens, the great Asstro...well, not really but he successfully managed to alienate the fans of the three teams he actually achieved success on.." It's funny. Toronto is really the only team that has a legitimate right to be angry with the guy. He signed with them out of spite because he was mad at the Sox GM and then demanded a trade to the Yankees. He left Boston because he was upset at how Duquette treated him and left New York because he decided he'd rather retire than play there anymore. When Houston offered him a contract he decided to take it. Clemens did file for free agency after he "retired", George could have offered him a contract to stay. If he did it obviously wasn't enough to keep the guy. AS, stop cryingin your cornflakes. Clemens and Pettite did to New York what New York has done to other teams. When "your guys" leave it isn't fun. Welcome to everybody else's world. You still have a pretty good team down there, last I heard.

Vern Gagne 0 Report post Posted April 13, 2004 AS. Clemens and Pettite don't leave the Yankees don't sign Brown, and Vizquel. Which do would you rather have right know?

Brown & Clemens are (since Clemens unretired) near the end of their careers, so it's even. But Vazquez (sp?) is younger than Pettitte and seems to be very good, so thats a plus side. Guest Anglesault Report post Posted April 13, 2004 AS. Clemens and Pettite don't leave the Yankees don't sign Brown, and Vizquel. Which do would you rather have right know? Forgetting that Roger is a sack of shit, I expected him to keep his word and retire, so I never expected him to come back. On the other hand, if Andy, a lying sonofabitch trying to claim that the Yankees offered him the lowest contract out of anyone, stayed, we would have probably gotten Javy anyway, and we had to dump Weaver anyway, so we could have possibly gotten Brown.
