Papacita 0 Report post Posted April 12, 2004 I think I may have got myself into some shit. Last week, I made an online charge to my card (and before anyone asks, YES it was porn). I've made a bunch of online orders before (from Amazon, clothing, and even said porn site once before) without problem, so I really didn't think anything of it. I even checked by account balance right before making the charge to ensure that everything was straight as far as money was concerned. Now I make the charge, checked my balance afterwards, and for the first everything was fine. I still had a good amount of money in the bank. However, Saturday night, I just happened to check my balance again (I always try to log in periodically to make sure I don't get any surprises when my statement comes in) and see that my account is $33 overdrawn. Now I had made NO charges in between the time I made the afforementioned charge and the time I checked my balance, and no one I know even has access to my card, so obviously, something's up. I was thinking it may have been an error, since it wasn't showing me where the charge came from or when it was made, but today I called the Wachovia (bank) office and found out that it was no mistake, and someone had made a rather large charge on my account. Now still, I'm thinking this isn't too big a deal, because I can just cancel my card and get a new one, but then the clerk I'm talking to starts bringing up stuff about filing an affidavit or something so that she can file my case, and I'm starting to panic a bit, because I'm not trying to get into some legal issue over a little bit of porn. That, and I was trying to keep my real charge on hush in the first place. Once I explained the whole situation to her, we decided we'd wait on the affidavit (the actual charge hadn't gone through yet) and she gave me the address of the site the made the charge, and told me to contact them to see if I can figure out what's going on. I've done that, and now I'm waiting. I'll let y'all know how this turns out, but if I make it through this without any trouble, I *PROMISE* you that I will NEVER...EVER...EEEEEEEVER look at porn again as long as I live. NEVER!!!!! NEVER AGAIN!!!!!! Ah, fuck it. *grabs lotion and logs onto porn site*
Guest Vitamin X Report post Posted April 13, 2004 Tsk tsk tsk.... Well don't worry about it. I had a CapitalOne Visa I went a bit wild with in Vegas back in early 2002, and decided I wasn't going to fuckin pay it. The original balance of $482 skyrocketed up to $1700, and then I've been getting threatened with lawsuits starting last year. So I've paid about $1000, and still waiting to pay back the other $700. I can say it's a lesson well-learned by now. Better now than after this August when I turn 21.

Mole 0 Report post Posted April 13, 2004 Bah, this happened to me too, sort of. Long ass story short, it turns out my cousin used my SS number and got a credit card under my name. Just over $1,000 under my name. So I called him, told him he better pay it off or I'm gonna sue or whatever. He did, so all is good now.

I'd rather have bad credit than go to jail and at this point in my life, having bad credit is the last fucking thing I care about. Considering I'm only 20 and I'm not going to buy a house soon or anything, so yeah fuck it.
kkktookmybabyaway 0 Report post Posted April 13, 2004 One time I got a phone bill for several hundred dollars for phone calls made to Africa. Turns out it was because I was looking at naughty web sites and somehow my phone line got connected to the Dark Continent. I didn't have to pay it. Lesson learned: If you want porn just buy it at the local store...
Guest Agent of Oblivion Report post Posted April 13, 2004 This kind of controversy is why I only deal with cash and bartering. I don't even use checks. Credit cards are a nightmare.
kkktookmybabyaway 0 Report post Posted April 13, 2004 I used to be a cash-only person until I got my first cash-back credit card. Now I'm a plastic whore -- although I always pay off my bill with no finance charges...
Guest Agent of Oblivion Report post Posted April 13, 2004 That's the thing see, I hate debts with a passion, so I either don't spend a whole lot of money at once, or am strapped when I do. Besides, credit cards charge interest and annual fees and all this other shit, thus taking MORE of your money than the thing costs in the first place. Besides, it says to the left of the President's head, "This note is legal tender for all debts, public and private." No one doesn't accept cash. It's so much simpler. Guest Vitamin X Report post Posted April 13, 2004 Yeah unfortunately nowadays a lot of companies don't let you rent a car, hotel room, even video games at Blockbuster without a credit card. It's a method of security a lot of companies use for loss prevention purposes I suppose. So it's always good to have one, but just in case, for emergencies and for the aforementioned purpose. But yeah online porn is a rip-off I don't trust any kind of seedy website with my shit.
kkktookmybabyaway 0 Report post Posted April 13, 2004 Besides, credit cards charge interest and annual fees and all this other shit, thus taking MORE of your money than the thing costs in the first place. Most cards don't charge annual fees anymore, and if you pay off all your debts by within a month or two, you don't get hit with interest. Like I said before, the only reason I have a card is because I get one percent cash back -- made about $150 that way. In addition, I figure this will help build up my credit rating when it comes time for making a bigger purchase (house/etc...)
Guest Agent of Oblivion Report post Posted April 13, 2004 Yeah, see I've got that bachelor bonus where I don't have to pay for a damn thing except for myself, so the whole credit rating thing means nothing to me now. I also don't ever see myself being settled enough to buy a house anyway. Hell, I've moved twice since I've started posting here.
PLAGIARISM! 0 Report post Posted April 14, 2004 I'm probably gonna get a credit card at some stage, I've never been overdrawn on my debit card and I manage with just that right now, but christ, 'How would like to pay for this sparks waxwork sir?' 'Uhhhhh visa, please.' It's all downhill from there.
Papacita 0 Report post Posted April 16, 2004 More info on the card situation. I talked to another Wachovia rep on Wednesday. She said I didn't need to sign an affidavit about the card (I don't know whether I should be relieved or suspicious about that). Thing is, Wachovia had actually issued me a new card last week (I had a First Union card, and the banks merged sometime last year), and since it was determined that whomever made the charge probably only had my card number and not the my PIN and everything that it'd just be safe to cancel the First Union card and just start using my new card, since it has a different number and everything. That seems like the logical thing to do, and infact, I actually suggested this to the lady I spoke to on Monday, but she said it'd probably be best to cancel that too. I dunno...I took the second clerk's advice, and hopefully, nothing bad comes from this.
