I am mystified that none of hte Washington-area sporst franchises made it onto the list.

 

Sure, the Redskins did win a few super bowls in the 80's and early 90's, but Washington as a whole has done jackshit since then, despite numerous owners and players promising us good performance. Every year we get excited about the new players signed and they always SUCK.

 

And the Orioles don't give us much relief. They did pretty good for a few years in the mid 90's as well, but have also sucked hardcore since then and even now when they show signs of improvement, they are stuck in the same division as the Yanks, Red Sox, Blue JAys, and upstart Devil Rays. ARRG.

Be glad he wasn't a Yankee or Red Sox fan, he would have never gotten out of the stadium alive...the cops would have shot him and sprinkled crack on him.

Its much better to have a franchise like the Red Sox than a franchise like the Expos.  There is NO worse feeling in sports than having management who just doesn't give a damn about the team as anything more than a cash cow.

Yeah, the Red Sox management gave a damn, they have just been inept.

Legend says the only thing that stopped it was Yawkey and Topping sobering up.

Ah yes. Both would've undoubtably thrived in their new parks. I think the Red Sox got the better end of that non-deal, because Williams was four years younger than Dimaggio. More importantly, Dimaggio retired in '51, while the Sox got nine more years out of Williams.

 

That brings a scary thought. The 1950s Yankees, with Mantle AND Ted Williams in the outfield. Damn.
