Festival held in Wacken, Germany every year for 3 days in August. I plan on goin' this summer if I have enough $$ saved to get over to Germany and back, plus the $ to get in the show and a lot more money for beer and other miscellaneous shit. Metalheads gather from 'round the world to experiance this, and from the people I know that've gone there it was worth every damn penny.
Guest Agent of Oblivion Report post Posted April 13, 2004 That's a crazy mix of metal bands..no grindcore that I recognize though. I suppose that all stays up in Milwaukee around the same time of year, at their metalfest. Satyricon looks like my favorite act on this one. There's no way I can go to this, though I might some year in the future. I'd love to see the european bands I never get a chance to hear, and I'd like to peg Helloween with a beverage or two. Red Hot Thumbtack In The Eye 0 Report post Posted April 13, 2004 First impression: Mayhem in front of 60odd thousand kids isn't gonna work. They almost need that small intimate atmosphere in a club to really make their shit work. Not to mention, it'll be hard to convince people while probably playing at like 5 in the afternoon when it's sunny out. there is a 1000% chance of injuries at this show from the violent music, and flying sheeps heads. should be interesting. And yeah it'd be worth the money. 3 days of the creme de la creme of euro metal, euro beer, and euro metal chicks.
Dace59 0 Report post Posted April 13, 2004 I'd so love to be there, as the trip isnt that far for me. But it's all a case of money and getting it together. As for Mayhem, I'm seeing them next month in a lovely tiny venue (600 people tops) and it's going to be very interesting.

Red Baron 0 Report post Posted April 13, 2004 and I'd like to peg Helloween with a beverage or two. surprised you didn't say Dio. Anyways, I'd love to go see this awesome metal fest, but the cost of a plane ticket to Germany...ya
Guest Blas Report post Posted April 13, 2004 Wacken also has some great shows/tours before the event. Those goddamn lucky Germans. The big stages for the bands used to playing small ones do hurt the sound a lot, I know the guy who played bass for Dark Funeral at last year's Wacken and he said the sound was totally fucked for DF and some other bands, but I've never really read a good live-dark funeral review. But the fact that you're there with over a thousand other metalheads, all enjoying metal, drinking beer, that atmosphere must be a wet dream.
