SuperJerk 0 Report post Posted April 14, 2004 This decision makes as much sense as when they put the Light-Heavyweight Title on Duane fucking Gill. Okay, you're just going to have to get over that one.

AndrewTS 0 Report post Posted April 14, 2004 GAIL KIM BEFORE: Toronto, Ontario, Canada AFTER: Korea Hello? That's not even a country. They should at least announce her as being from South Korea. WWE writer: Um...she was from there back when it was just Korea.
Guest Adrian 3:16 Report post Posted April 14, 2004 I guess that's why you aren't making fun of all the stupid American towns who cheer whenever Rock says "Finally, the Rock has come back to ____" or Mick Foley's cheap pops, eh? For a mod, you're certainly conducting yourself in a way that makes you look more retarded than Eugene. OMG HE SAID MORE RETARDED THAN EUGENE LOLZ!~1 -not that funny And for what its worth, I can't stand the Foley-esque hometown pop routine either. That's why I think Evil Hollywood Rock in Toronto was one of the greatest promos of all time- its the first time I've ever seen someone call the fans out on that. ALberta is the official home of wrestling now. It's important that you get announced from there. Bret Hart is a hero. So if Americans in the 80's looked to Hogan as a hero they were marks, but if Canadians in the 90's and beyond looked at Bret as a hero they're perfectly justified? Interesting. And of course Alberta is the official home of wrestling. There's nothing else to do up there.
Guest wrestlingbs Report post Posted April 15, 2004 WHAT!? How are canadians stuck in the 90's? They love there wrestlers. Big f'n deal. If Americans took pride in there wrestlers like Canadians and Japanese then maybe it wouldn't be a big joke in America. Oh wait......mark crap? Are you referring to Montreal? Right.....the thing that the WWE can't forget about. Not the fans. Yes, they are. Its one thing to love your favorite wrestlers, but Canadians take it a little too far. Look at Bret Hart: Canadian Hero as an example. And it all is a big joke. This is pro wrestling, not life or death. Oh and before you or anyone else accuses me of xenophobia... I'm Canadian. Yes, but how do we know that? Maybe you were born on a train bound for Canada from Montana. That means you could have been born in the US. But wait, if you were born on the train as it was in motion, wouldn't that make you a native of the train?! or maybe it's just the ground the train is on? You know, forget it, it's stupid. Just like the WWE's reasoning behind changing somebody's hometown after years of saying different.

You have mistaken me for something I have not said. Bret Hart wrestled in the 80s and 90s. He actually started at least as early as 1976. A man of distinguished valor or enterprise in danger, or fortitude in suffering; a prominent or central personage in any remarkable action or event; hence, a great or illustrious person. Bret qualifies under that.
RepoMan 0 Report post Posted April 15, 2004 This decision makes as much sense as when they put the Light-Heavyweight Title on Duane fucking Gill. It made sense considering that they WWE wasn't doing anything with the division anyways and they had a f'ing great Goldberg parody.
Guest Goodear Report post Posted April 15, 2004 Isn't that the same argument *against* making these changes? Are more people going to cheer for Benoit & Jericho just because they're billed as living in America? Yes it is. Americans by and large don't care half as much about someone being from their home country as Canadians do. Hence, its stupid to change the hometowns. But its also stupid that Canadians seem to care so much about it so I decided to fire both chambers.

For a mod, you're certainly conducting yourself in a way that makes you look more retarded than Eugene. I'm not making fun of them NOW because we aren't talking about it NOW. Do you want me to? Do you want me to talk about stupid ECW fans or New York crowds? Because I don't like them so much either. There is about as much reason to cheer the name of the city you're standing in as there is to caring about wether Chris Benoit is announced from where he was bron or where has been living for the last ten years. I think its stupid they changed the hometwon because ONLY CANADA would care about such Nationalistic crap. And why don't you suck it up and deal with the fact that a Mod has an unpopular decision and doesn't care that you don't like it? I guess I have to give it up in order to treat people with the respect you gave me by calling me more retarded than a fictional character. Why didn't you just tell me I'm as crippled as Timmy? jester 0 Report post Posted April 15, 2004 I think its stupid they changed the hometwon because ONLY CANADA would care about such Nationalistic crap. Ever heard those "USA" chants? Yeah. No kidding. If nationality and city doesn't matter, I guess nobody in New York would have a problem if the Yankees moved to Los Angeles, as long as they could still see the games. Dallas wouldn't mind if the Cowboys moved to Rhode Island either.
Guest Adrian 3:16 Report post Posted April 15, 2004 And of course Alberta is the official home of wrestling. There's nothing else to do up there. Stupid Americans... I'm Canadian. I was born in Toronto and my family is from Montreal. Swing and a miss. And there is nothing to do out there... get over it. Its like someone from New York or LA or Miami saying there's nothing to do in Montana. There isn't.
The Kid 0 Report post Posted April 15, 2004 Well if you're born in Toronto and your family's from Montreal, I can understand why you dont like Alberta. Hows the center of the universe treating ya? Seriously, there is tons to do here. Like build igloos for instance.
Guest Goodear Report post Posted April 15, 2004 Ever heard those "USA" chants? Yeah. When they chant USA for a Canadian that is wrestling an American, I think its pretty safe to say that they don't actually take it amazingly seriously unlike ... oh say Canada who will probably still boo any face against any heel if the Nationalities are right. You know, since thats actually happened a whole bunch of times.

You know, since thats actually happened a whole bunch of times. Canada did cheer Steve Austin over Owen Hart at Survivor Series '97. Think about that for a moment; Steve Austin was cheered over a Hart. It's not like Canadians ALWAYS cheer their own guys over non-Canadians. They respect workrate. Sure, those from the country will get a bigger than average reaction, but that's to be expected. I'd actually compare most of Canada's crowd to MSG's. They both don't like Shawn Michaels as well. In any case, I've as said before, the decision to change the hometowns IS stupid. Why defend something that is based on a petty vendetta?
Guest I Got Banned for Sucking Report post Posted April 16, 2004 Overall on the topic, pretending that WWE are doing this to be up-to-date, it's fucking stupid - Chris Benoit, for example. He has Canadian roots. Edmonton roots. That's where he's from. Forget where he's living now, that's where he began, and that's what matters. The same goes for the rest.
