Guest Loss Report post Posted April 15, 2004 I just read the closed topic and wanted to apologize for taking a background approach as I have lately. I think that I came on too strong at first, and from the wrong direction, and for that I'm sorry. Rudo made some good points in the other thread that the point of view of the regular TSM posters was not considered. I think that's a valid complaint. I have been less visible by design. There was some resentment toward me when I first started moderating the folder for doing too much -- for closing too many posts, for issuing warnings for stupid reasons, for taking the folder too seriously. I would say some of those complaints are valid and some are not. I have a vision of what I want the folder to be, but where I failed is that I did not really consider the vision that others had. Perhaps we can form a compromise, a hybrid of sorts that would welcome back many of the 'old school' posters who have stopped posting here without alienating the current crop of posters. This should be a fun place. Too many rules is too much like real life, and I do feel like many of you come here for an escape. If I have gone overboard, know that I did it with the right intentions, and if I've angered anyone, I hope that can be resolved in a civil manner. I'm willing to talk about that -- in private. The posters should dictate the direction and future of the WWE folder, not the moderators. Ideally, it works. However, there are often posters who go against progress and good discussion and kill topics, sometimes inadvertently and sometimes purposely. I'd say we've all been guilty of that at some point to a certain degree. It bothers me that some of you think I was appointed a mod because I was 'popular'. If I was, I'm certainly not now. If I have to make decisions that are not popular, then that is what I have to do. I want to please as many people as I can, but I know that it is impossible for me to please everyone and I won't attempt to do that. I can't do this without you, the posters in the WWE folder. In fact, there is no "I" involved. It's not "my" board, it's "our" board. If you have suggestions for improving the folder, I want to hear them. If you have problems, contact any mod and we'll be glad to at least attempt to find resolution. I tried doing this before, but it was immediately after coming in and putting everyone on the defensive, so I understand why I didn't get as much response. I'm not going to go looking for problems like I was at one point. It is still my goal to read every post in that forum. But this time, my plans are to take a background role and step in only when I have to. The rest of the time, I will be a regular poster and will be no better or worse than anyone else. I will warn posters when they do something so ridiculous that immediate action is necessary. I will deal with issues that are forwarded to me through PM. But the board, and especially the WWE folder will not become a "mod's stomping ground" at any point. Thank you all for your patience. I have been sitting back not because I haven't cared what was going on, but because I wanted to see if the members of the board were happy with me doing more or less. You seem to prefer the hands-off approach, so that's the route I'll take. That said, I still want to work to improve the folder, and I still want to hear suggestions. -- Loss
RavishingRickRudo 0 Report post Posted April 15, 2004 You know what I would do? And by "do" I mean "think about, talk about, but not actually go through with cause I'm lazy". But... you know what I would do? Poll the board. Poll the WWE folder. Do a survey. I dunno if you can do a board-wide PM, but if it's possible, do that. If you can't, then post a notice in every folder, make a thread in these folders, and -for a week- have each individual poster make a post answering the survey. This doesn't _just_ have to be WWE Folder-related, it can be TSM-related, as in "Why do you come to TSM?" "Where do you spend most of your time?" "Why did you first come to TSM" "What other boards do you post at" "What is your age" "Where do you live" etc. In otherwords, make a database. I think a lot of this info would be beneficial to the board admin because you get a good grasp of the average poster and can make changes (or anticipate problems) accordingly. In the WWE folder, do something similar, but with more specific questions "Would you like to see a daily news thread?" "Do you feel there is too much negativity" "Are there too many posts?", etc. etc. The problem with _this_ thread is that it is in site feedback - I don't know how many people from the WWE folder (a)come in here, and (b)care about what goes on in here. This whole thing would take a long time to implement, however there are certain benefits with that. You get people familiar with the idea of change as-well-as thinking about certain problems on the board and taking a pro-active stance in making the board "better". Also, since you take the opinion on the whole board, you do not only get the opinion of current WWE posters, but former ones as well.
Guest Loss Report post Posted April 15, 2004 This is an excellent idea! An excellent, excellent idea in fact. It might even be bordering on an excellent, excellent, excellent idea. I will start working on it like, now, and maybe I can have this implemented within the next two weeks, if not sooner.
RavishingRickRudo 0 Report post Posted April 15, 2004 Then we are even. You introduce me to the wonder that is "Pussy Control", and I suggest a survey.
Guest Agent of Oblivion Report post Posted April 15, 2004 I think the reason a lot of people don't post there is the subject material, too. I just don't like wrestling like I used to. Definitely not enough to argue about it.
bob_barron 0 Report post Posted April 15, 2004 I filled out the survey. While I didn't agree with all the questions I thought it was pretty good. I hope it helps
chaosrage 0 Report post Posted April 15, 2004 The only real problem with the WWE board is that it's kinda stale because there's no new posters. It's just always the same people saying the same things. Open new registrations.

Nighthawk 0 Report post Posted April 16, 2004 Look how many people filled out the survey who don't care or actively dislike the concept of the survey or it's nature. The answer is more surveys. People love filling those out.
Guest Dids Report post Posted April 16, 2004 That survey reaks of work. I'm on vacation. It's a forum about the WWE, which is retarded, as such, some of the posts will be retarded. There's no stopping that.

Guest Loss Report post Posted April 16, 2004 Can't please 'em all, I guess. I don't understand what it is that people want. From what I can gather, you want us to be more visible without doing anything. You want the folder to be better, but you don't want anything done to make it better. You want people gone, but you don't want anyone to leave. The folder is too negative, but it's too positive. Unless you guys are just really, really, really polarized, right now, I can't make heads or tails of anything people tell me. Maybe the survey will help in that regard. Guest cobainwasmurdered Report post Posted April 16, 2004 *searches for a Non-flaming reply...fails* Essentially some of the people saying everything is perfect are the people that other posters find to be causing problems. Not all of the "everything is perfect" people, but some of them. Oh...and I blame Hoff.
Guest Dids Report post Posted April 16, 2004 To expand upon my smartass response. I don't think the WWE folder needs fixing. You can't make it ideal without being totally draconian. I see two options: A- You just take a "you have to be this smart to ride this message board" approach, and ban people simply because they're dumb (not an idea that I totally think is wrong, I've been on heavily moderated boards, and they're good, if not painfully clique-ish) B- Understand that the subject matter that drives this board caters to a younger demographic, and that you're going to get some nonsense posts. Mods can clean up obvious crap, but you'll never make it perfect. Given that I think that B is more reasonable, here's what I'd suggest to the mods. - Clean up redundant threads. - Lock threads once they become the same two people arguing the same points over and over again. - If a topic is just painfully dumb, kill it. For example, the Steph topic that was thrust upon HD. (the second part of this is that HD isn't the place to send retarded threads, it's the flaming folder, not the retard folder). Man: How many of you kids would like Itchy & Scratchy to deal with real-life problems, like the ones you face every day? Kids: [clamoring] Oh, yeah! I would! Great idea! Yeah, that's it! Man: And who would like to see them do just the opposite -- getting into far-out situations involving robots and magic powers? Kids: [clamoring] Me! Yeah! Oh, cool! Yeah, that's what I want! Man: So, you want a realistic, down-to-earth show... that's completely off-the-wall and swarming with magic robots? Kids: [all agreeing, quieter this time] That's right. Oh yeah, good.
