The way I've always figured it (and this isn't anything that's ever been etched in stone, just the way I see things) is that it's not technically a German suplex unless you hold the bridge. Of course, even Benoit won't hold the bridge anymore, so it's probably a moot point. I'm not sure it makes that much of a difference to the actual fan, but it always has to me for some reason.
