The One and Only Backlash 2004 Thread

Recommended Posts

Didn't come close to touching the WrestleMania Triple Threat Match, and it was a little silly to try. They could have put HHH/Benoit or HBK/Benoit as the Main Event, and put the odd man out in a different high-profile match. Instead, they put out a match that unfortunately would have been impossible to be better than the previous match.

It was a solid Main Event, don't get me wrong. I would probably give it around ***. But, then again, it wasn't even the Match of the Night.

Benoit: The only man in history I believe to make BOTH HHH & HBK tap out.

I could be wrong about that.

Bret (HBK in 1992, HHH in March of 1996).

This all builds up to Triple Threat part 3 at SummerSlam where Benoit truly proves he's the champ by making himself tap-out to the Ankle-lock

Thats the logical next step

HBK tapped to the sharpshooter?

Okay, let's all agree:

Montreal should never be mentioned ever again.

Ah, OK.

Then he's the only one still an active wrestler to do so.

...hehe...two Canadians both making HBK and HHH both tap out.

IT'S GENETIC, I TELLS YA!

What a downer.

...comes alive like this.

Benoit winning was awesome, and the sharpshooter was a nice touch, but something about the match didn't click for me. Just couldn't get into it at all.

Benoit = TEH LOSER~!

HBK is the real champion. The only reason that they didn't put the strap on him is because "we" were in Canada.......-a-?!? HBK gave 150 % -a-?!? I give Benoit under 2 months before he's jobbing the title to HBK or HHH like the little bitch that he is~!

I was busting at the seams at the idea that "Montreal" would happen again~! DAMN BENOIT~! DAMN HIM TO HELL~!

Not to nit-pick, but he said tap out, which was introduced to WWF in 1997. So niether man have to the same person.

But otherwise, submission wins overall, then Bret Hart definitely.

If WWE doesn't bring it up again, sure.

Man, when Hebner came in, they teased that spot SO well... I mean, I think everybody realized it wouldn't end like that again, but they had the hold in the exact same spot in the ring, and Hebner came in and did the EXACT same mannerisms... I felt like I was watching 1997 for a minute there.

Totally agree.

It was like Angle/Austin from Unforgiven 2001, It wasn't as good as the first match at Summerslam and the finish was obvious to everyone since the winner was in his home town. Thus it didn't feel as special as the match at Wrestlemania.

Guest I Got Banned for Sucking

In my book, it was a ***3/4 show.

Regarding the main event... they were going off the hook at the start, which means they're trying to overshadow the WrestleMania main event, and they can either succeed or fail. They failed.

The match had it's high points, such as Shawn Michaels getting heat when he did anything, especially locking in the Sharpshooter and using trademark offence on Benoit.

It was an entertaining match, but it did turn into a bit of a scuffle later on, and it was great for the Sharpshooter to end things, but not right there.

The Foley/Orton match was great, some real dedication shown, even if we did have an unrealistic conclusion.

I'll give you my full report soon.

I think they should have done that at the end, with Benoit reversing the sharpshooter for the win. But that's just nitpicking...it was a good match, but obviously not on the emotional level of Wrestlemania.

Enjoyable show. I liked this triple threat more than the first due to a better structure, less nonsensical bleeding, and I could get into it a lot more. ***1/4 for that, match of the night.

Next best was clearly Christian/Trish vs Y2J. **3/4 from me, fun match that I really enjoyed the ending of with the nice running enziguri.

Everything else hovered from 1/2*-*3/4. Best Raw PPV yet, with nothing in the negative stars.

I think the reason that the WrestleMania match clicked better was:

1-Well, it was Wrestlemania...so they tried harder.

2-People were PRAYING that Benoit would win there moreso.

And for me...even though I didn't SEE this one...because I was there live to see Benoit win.
