An idea for WWE tv

Recommended Posts

Me and my friend were talking about this about two weeks ago while watching velocity, I was just wondering what you guys all thought. We were thinking what if WWE stop doing Heat and Velocity and did 3 hours of Raw and Smackdown? Now this has it negatives and positives, a positive WWE would be able to more talen on Raw and Smackdown and talent won't be put on the "C and D shows" (that sound about right?) so their moral in the lockeroom could go up a bit, plus it could get a few more angles over and some new ones created too.

Now a negitive I thought of is would they recap stuff that happen from the week before? I came to the answer yeah they could, but it should be REALLY short since they have the "WWE experiance" starting up.This could make viewers tune into that show to see what they missed, if anything, and get caught up on whats going on. Also the other huge negitive is if the top talent would take up a lot of the tv time? This was one of my concerns when Nitro went to 3 hours way back when, and really the top talent really didn't take up most of the 3 hours. If anything the top talent didn't come out till maybe the 2nd hour since it was when Raw was coming on, but since this is WWE, I'm guessing most likely on it.

But I don't know, when my friend and I discussed the idea it sounded like a good idea, what do you all think?

I like the idea, but do you think that it would give the guys on Heat and Velocity a slot on their respective brand?

And what did you mean by "recap stuff that happen from the week before"? If you meant like Raw's and SmackDown!'s pre-show video packages, then of course they could - it's only an extra hour to do, so it wouldn't be much. But if you mean recapping the reason that the extra hour was added (Heat and Velocity talent, new angles and feuds), then yeah, they probably should show that instead of just the title build. But for WWE, putting that stuff on Raw and SmackDown! would probably be enough.

Overall, I like your idea. I had a similar idea a while back - Making Heat and Velocity "mini-brands", and give them their own PPV or work it in with the Raw and/or SmackDown! PPV for that month, both of which have their positives and negatives.

Who knows, with your idea, maybe Lance Storm will get on the show. :P

Actually that was our point.

Also I completely forgot about the "rebounds" so ok yeah those can stay in there. Thats what I was referring to.

Yeah, the Rebounds could just be a little bit longer, that's no biggie.

With the brand split, WWE didn't capitalise on using unused talent. With separate PPVs, WWE didn't capitalise on using unused talent. Do you think that they'd it if this happened? Well, if they did, they'd have to have some incentive. But even if the shows magically became an hour longer, Vince would probably fill it with crap anyway.

Oh I figure he'll feel it with crap, I mean its Vince McMahon, he's right behind Vince Russo in my eyes. But still this could really help boost Morale in the lockerrooms. I mean how many guys are upset because there stuck on Heat or Velocity? Hell Spanky quit because of it, Ultimo decided to take a break from the WWE and go back to Japn till winter. Also another point is get the 10+ promos outta the way and have more time for matches. I really felt that WCW did a good job on their 3 hours Nitro shows, but I really don't know if WWE would realize how good it could be.

Edit: And here we are yet again having a late night discussion.

The problem is if they went with two three hour shows each week it will be a lot harder to sell a PPV every month which is also three hours long. Also I think that three hours, twice a week is simply too much for most fans.

A 3 hour Smackdown would be awful, guys like Holly,Gunn,Jindrak,Orlando Jordan and the Bashams would get the extra hour.

When WCW had 3 hour Nitros they even tried using the 1st hour to recap angles and have interviews, check out some Nitros from Spring 99 and it takes an hour to get to the 1st match.

Edit: That lasted about 2 shows.

Hey Scroby, it's later here than there - 9:31 PM. :P

h4u, you're right, but if this planned happened, the PPVs would be longer. And imagine WrestleMania in that aspect...

SmackDown! definitely got shafted after the draft lottery, so it could suck giving it three hours, but Velocity is pretty much full of an entertaining uppercard, and who knows, maybe with what they have (and don't), they could give us something decent?

I know I've forgotten something...

Ok I'll make a table here

Heat=gone

Raw gets 3 hours

Smackdown gets 2 since its not doing every good at the moment

Veloctiy stays for awhile

WWE exeperiance= Recap 1hour long, along with that bottmline show and that other one no one ever sees unless its by accident.

That work for everybody? I was thinking 3 hours for Smackdown to help get the cruisers on there to get that divison more credit.

Yeah, because this worked out SO well when Nitro tried it...

RAW is tough enough to sit through 2 hours on some weeks, if it means waiting until Sunday night to see a Rico vs. Rosie match, so be it...

Well, essentially that'd just save them the cost of an extra pyro show since Velocity is taped before Smackdown, but I'll take anything that puts cruisers on my TV.

I can barely last two hours watching Raw and Smackdown let alone three! It would be just boring filler matches. We already know how they waste two hours. Half-hour of it is wasted on recaps, rebounds and any other re-ason. No bad idea. Maybe once in a while like 2-3 times a year is cool but not every week...don't you dudes have girls to shag.

The Three hour expirement KILLED WCW.

The buyrates went down the shitter because WCW oversatured the product with 3 hours of Nitro...2 hours of Thunder...2 Hours of Saturday Night Main Event...the shows got worst and lost direction.

The 128 minutes raw runs is more then enough.

I object on the basis that WWE is already overexposed at this point, and this wouldn't help. Yes, technically it's not adding more time since it is just shifting another hour to the main shows, but in effect it is since nobody watches Heat or Velocity.

Plus, looking at the crap and the filler WWE presents us when they have to fill two hours of air time, filling 3 would be horrible.

I think Raw could pull off a 3 hour show, but I dont think Smackdown would have a chance in the world trying it. Who wants a extra hour of Orlando Jordan & Spike Dudley? I would also think that if they did this they would almost have to make the PPVs 4 hours long. Unless its WrestleMania, or Summerslam thats a pretty tough sell. Espically a 4 hour Smackdown PPV, Who the heck would want to watch that?? But since Raw is the flagship program of The WWE as J.R. reminds us each and every week, maybe Raw can be 3 hours and Smackdown can stay at 2.

The now SmackDown! couldn't. No chance in hell. But in any time in 2003, SmackDown! could have easily, except for maybe heading towards the end of December.

Yeah, the PPVs are a problem, for those with a fairly short attention span and keeping them (the PPVs) special.

I mean, hey, Raw doesn't exactly need all of it's Heat stars to add another hour on at this point, but, ironically, SmackDown! does, and in this set-up, it's not getting it, when it has cruiserweights and midcarders that actually can be booked correctly.

what a horrible idea. No wrestling show should go three hours other than ppv.

It's too much to expect people to sit through. You'd be overextending yourself horribly.

Time is one of the main factors that you have to consider - and with it, the negatives outweigh the positives.

You know it was just a basic idea, its not like its going to happen so no need to get over angry about it. Anyways, I just felt like it could be a good idea, I was able to watch the 3 hours of WCW Nitro just fine, so I think I could handle 3 hours of Raw/Smackdown. I was thinking since maybe the shows went to 3, PPV's could go 4. I mean just to make up for the PPV time. But i'm sure most of you guys feel the same about that too.
