PROMO: the 3rd person

...on the outside, Mike Van Siclen starts to lift, but Liston’s eyes widen as he feels his feet leave the ground and the Demon smashes a clubbing forearm into his opponent’s back. Van Siclen gives out a grunt of pain and ceases his efforts - and Liston wraps both arms around the Spectacle’s waist and hoists him up in a powerbomb position of his own!

...Liston braces himself, and with a massive heave he throws Van Siclen off forwards, grabbing the Spectacle’s head and driving it down...

...Down...

...DOWN...

...ONTO THE STEEL CHAIR!

“DESCENT!” Comet yells. “Liston just hit his finisher onto a steel chair!”

...and Liston hooks Van Siclen’s leg.

Hardcastle skids out of the ring and slaps his palm down...

... (truncated for space reasons. read the match.)

THHHRRRRRRRRREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!

*DING-DING!!*

*KKEEEEERRRRRRR-RRRUUNNNNCCCCCCCHHHHHHH!!*

*DING-DING-DING-DING!!*

“RRRRAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRR!!”

Several things happen at once. Liston is hit in the back by a double axehandle from Wildchild, and in the face by Janus’ boot, but they are too late to break the count. And in the ring, the cameras focus on the broken body of Toxxic, the victim of a double powerbomb followed by a Death Valley Driver through a table. Aecas sits in the splinters, apparently uncaring about the fact that the fall has finished.

“Ladies and gentlemen, the winner of this fall and NEW SWF Hardcore Gamer’s Champion.. JIMMY... ‘THE DEMON’... LIIIIIIISSSST-OOOONNNNNN!!” Funyon booms.

“Someone call 911!” Bobby Riley bawls as Sexton Hardcastle slides back into the ring, aghast at the carnage that took place in the few seconds he was otherwise occupied. “For the love of God, SOMEONE CALL 9...1...1!!"

...

The Hell Machine stares first at the wobbling Mike Van Siclen; then beyond him to the worried Jimmy Liston. A memory rises up in the back of Janus’ mind - not his own memory, but one belonging to the man known as Terrence Bailey. A memory of blocking the path of Toxxic, only to be felled by a low blow. Janus’ mouth twists into a grim smile, and he starts to advance on the Demon.

“Get out of there, Liston!” Riley yells...

...and the Demon obeys with alacrity! Shooting out of his own corner Liston darts towards the surprised Wildchild, who automatically holds his hand out for the tag - and gets it! Liston slides beneath the ropes and heads over to the timekeeper’s table to collect his hard-earned Hardcore Gamer’s title and then flees for the backstage area, leaving Wildchild and Mike Van Siclen to face the wrath of the Hell Machine!

After running to the backstage area, Liston immediately heads for an exit. As he walks out to the lots, he encounters a truly remarkable sight - that's right, Ben Hardy is all ready to get what he can out of the departing Demon. As Ben approaches Liston, the wrestler takes a few steps back, clutching his newly-acquired gold to his chest.

"Liston," Ben Hardy initiates, "You are now in possession of your first SWF title, the Hardcore Gamers Championship! But I must admit that..."

"What do you want, Hardy?!? You're after it, too???"

Hardy appears puzzled by this response. He continues, being the professional that he is, "I must admit that you did not get it by the best means. I mean, your teammate, Toxxic, took a beating at the hands of Aecas to ensure you would win the belt."

"Toxxic did nothing!" Liston retorts, "He was in the wrong place at the wrong time."

"Well," counters Hardy, "While I do think that Aecas let his emotions concerning Toxxic get the best of him, surely you must give some credit to Toxxic. I mean, he is your partner. He has stuck out his neck for you on several occasions."

"You don't get it. Toxxic is a teammate. He is an incredible wrestler. But Toxxic did not do anything to help Jimmy tonight. Jimmy won that fall."

Hardy gives up, moving on to another question. "Now that you two are both going to be pursuing single title careers, does this mean the end of Psychological Warfare?"

Liston shifts uncertainly, glancing nervously over his shoulder. "Well, Jimmy will have his hands full, as will Toxxic. But Jimmy thinks that Psychological Warfare will live on."

"Well surely," chimes in Hardy, "Toxxic will be out of commission for a while."

"What do you mean?"

"Considering the beating he took, I'd say he was seriously injured. I don't think he'll be cleared to wrestle right away."

"If Toxxic has to," retorts Jimmy, "He can wrestle with a broken neck. That is how much faith Jimmy has in Toxxic."

"Well, it's all good that you think he can wrestle, but it's really up to the SWF, isn't it?"

Liston grows tired of Hardy, and seeks an end to the conversation. "Jimmy is going home. After a hard match tonight, Jimmy has got to have some Jimmy time."

With that, Liston walks off. Hardy is persistent, though.

"Aren't you even curoius about Toxxic's condition? Don't you want to visit him at the hospital?"

"NO!" Liston whips back around, "That's exactly what they'll be expecting!"

Liston pauses a moment, then quickly turns and runs off to the backlots. Hardy is left alone with his cameraman.

"There's something really weird going on with Liston."

"What do you mean?" asks Gus, turning off the camera.

"Getting a title has made him a nervous wreck. He's totally paranoid, probably going home to lock himself in his basement."

"Well," says Gus, displaying an odd sense of clarity, "It is his first title in the big leagues."

"Yeah, I guess. He wasn't ready for this kind of leap. The only reason he made it is because he teamed up with a competent wrestler. I almost feel sorry for the man."

"I wouldn't," retorts Gus, "Didn't you notice the annoying way he kept referring to himself in the third person?"

"Oh yeah, of course. Definite inferiority complex, or something like that."

"Yeah, he knows he sucks. Hey, you want me to go run in this tape?"

"Nah," says Hardy, shrugging off the whole incident, "It can wait."

Jimmy has got to have some Jimmy time

And there's your catchphrase right there.

Kudos on promoing, and for getting in some solid character development. And hopefully this belt gives you a boost as it seems to be doing already.

Yeah, this summer I want to really get back to where I was, writing-wise. Having an essentially 6 month break, while necessary, was not good for my matches at all. So, a week and a half remaining. Alright!

I LIKE it. You're talking in the third person without ripping off the Rock, because you sound paranoid. Go Liston!
