Guest Agent of Oblivion Report post Posted May 9, 2004 Just watched Pac/Marquez, and that first round was insane. Manny puts him down THREE times, and Marquez gets right back up and goes the distance, being competitive. I'm waiting on the decision right now, but I'll take Pacquiao. Marquez was tough enough to survive the first, and win most of the middle rounds, but he ran out of steam towards the end. All he could do is counterpunch by that point, and nothing was doing any damage. He was just focusing on not letting Pac kill him.... 115-110 Pac, 115-110 JMM (What the fuck???), 113-113, Draw. A DRAW?? What the hell? That's bullshit. Marquez got put down three times and couldn't drop Pacquiao once. Well. 115-110 for Marquez..that's silly. Pacquiao dictate the pace of this fight, and was the only one doing damage with his punches. Manny's pretty pissed, it looks like. He really should've won. I had him winning the first and second, and he took the last 5. So in terms of rounds, it was close, but that first round was a 10-6 round..eh, fuck it. I'll watch a rematch. Manny Pacquiao vs. Erik Morales is going to be the next barnburner. I can't wait for that.
Guest NaturalBornThriller4:20 Report post Posted May 9, 2004 In my opinion, the 3 knockdowns in the 1st is what won Pac-Man the fight. Had there been no knockdowns, I would've given the fight to Marquez. Excellent fight, though. A FOTY candidate for sure, I await the rematch. Enough talk about those 2, watch out for Miguel Cotto (He fought in the 1st fight)
The Ghost of bps21 0 Report post Posted May 9, 2004 I thought Marquez won most of the rounds after the first. Since he should have been starting with a 4 point deficit after the first...I didn't think it was enough to win the fight.
NoCalMike 0 Report post Posted May 9, 2004 Manny was a beast in the first round, but watch rounds 2-12, and you can see that Marquez is clearly the better boxer. Marquez recovered from a nightmare of a 1st round, and really outclassed Manny the rest of the way, besides round 11. Manny was reduced to trying to just throw the left hand every single time, and it didn't work. I don't really disagree with a draw, as it will set up a WILD REMATCH. Guest Agent of Oblivion Report post Posted May 10, 2004 Pac really needs to learn to blast people off his back foot. He's totally one-dimensional, but it's a good dimension. Spring forward and jack their jaw. He got caught quite a few times coming in, and Marquez did a GREAT job of putting pressure on him, and realizing "Wow, He can't spring forward and hit me if he's moving backwards!" Pacquiao never got really tired or hurt, though, he just got frustrated with not being able to execute how he wanted. I don't see any other way Marquez could've survived that fight. Hopefully Pacquiao learned a lesson there, so he doesn't fade away. I like watching the guy fight a lot.
C Dubya 04 0 Report post Posted May 10, 2004 The thing that pissed me off was that the judge who had it for Marquez gave the first round to Pacquiao 10-6. That means that he scored the rest of the fight 10 rounds to 1 for Marquez. I had Marquez winning maybe 6 or 7, but certainly not 10 of 11. Judges in boxing suck. I don't even want to get started on the draw.
LaParkaMarka 0 Report post Posted May 10, 2004 Both fighters were a lot of fun to watch, though I was cheering Pac-Man on. It was a lot more interesting than seeing a couple of heavyweights hug each other for 8 rounds, that's for sure. They set a rematch yet?
