I'm watching the replay of the Yankee game. I heard no Angel got beaned.

While the teams weren't mad about the play that caused Posada's injury, Anaheim's Jose Guillen was still angry about a high-and-tight pitch from Yankees reliever Paul Quantrill in the eighth inning Wednesday night. ``I'm not afraid of him,'' Guillen said. ``We'll take care of business if he wants.''Said

He wanted to, you refused.

I believe the kiddies call that being a "pussy ass bitch", Jose.

Why, what happened in yesterday's game?

It got ugly.

Guillen pulled a Manny on PQ, Ben Molina tried to tell A-Rod how to play baseball, and the Angels dugout started laughing at PQ.

You do NOT laugh at the Yankees at Yankee Stadium.

Juan Pierre just tripled in the tying run in the top of the 9th in Houston. Dotel has yet to record an out, 2 walks and a triple. The triple could be called an "Alkeiper special", as Pierre was trying to sac bunt, but failed and ended up launching an RBI triple. Moneyball baby.

For once another team's bullpen is having a meltdown.

Marlins win, Benitez knocks it down and lowers his ERA to 0.40.

Maybe he did just need to get out of NY.

Series of the weekend. Twins at White Sox. The first series of the season between these two rivals. Who look like they'll be in a two team battle for the AL Central title.

I'm trying to get excited about this series, but...man, these teams just aren't that good.

Yeah, Biggio should have caught that ball. I didn't think he would get to it, but he did and then basically dropped it. Should have been out #1, but the Astros' below average centerfielder cost them the tying run.

That's Moneyball, too: below average defense doesn't hurt you very much. It's a flawed philosophy, in my opinion. Craig Biggio playing centerfield is fine in a 10-2 game, but Craig Biggio in centerfield in a 2-1 game is disaster waiting to happen. If he doesn't drop that ball, I think the Marlins don't win because Nunez never would have made it around - they didn't get another hit off Dotel after the triple.

Regardless, the Astros lost and the Cubs won, so I'm happy.

don't the Astros have a guy to replace Biggio with a one run lead in the 9th?

or should I say, why don't the Astros have a guy to replace Biggio with a one run lead in the 9th?

First off, Moneyball does not prescribe that philosophy. It simply states that you can make an estimation of how defensive moves will effect your team. That done, you can measure whether the offense will offset the hit in defense. Sabermetric teams do not punt defense.

True. But in all honesty who in the American League is really that good? New York, Boston, and Anaheim are the only ones I'd consider elite teams.

And it should stay like that, with maybe Oakland joining in.

Figured someone would have posted this by now but it's Carlos Beltran trade rumor time:

http://seattlepi.nwsource.com/baseball/173371_mari14.html

Bavasi said no deals are near, but rumors are circulating the Red Sox and Royals are trying to entice the Mariners into a three-way trade. Boston would trade pitcher Byung Hyun Kim and, possibly, outfielder Johnny Damon to the Mariners in exchange for pitcher Freddy Garcia and minor league starter Cha Seung Baek.

If the Red Sox could get the Mariners to bite, Garcia would then be shipped to Kansas City, with outfielder Carlos Beltran going to Boston.

That sounds like it is incredibly in the favor of Boston.

I hope for the sake of baseball that deal doesn't happen.

So KC would trade their stud FA to be center fielder for a decent FA to be pitcher? Seems like it kind of defeats the purpose of trading Beltran if they get nothing for the future.

Edgar's numbers against us looks like someone's good year.

.328 (?) BA, 22 Homers and 101 RBIs.

The Royals should just let Beltran leave via free agency and take draft picks. Then they'd get two guys in return under their control for six years of major league service.

Braves vs. Braves tonight, as the Milwaukee Brewers are wearing Milwaukee Brave throwback uniforms.

Why?

Oh, who the hell cares.

Yanks look awful, Mussina looks worse.

Not knowing about this I turned the game on about 3 minutes in and was trying to figure out who the hell it was pitching for Atlanta. Then I realize it was the Brewers pitching. This is messing with my mind.

rumor has it that Jose Vidro is agreeing to a 4 year, $30 million contract. My first thought is Vidro is high. My second thought is it's gonna be awesome to see the Red Sox and Yanks get in a bidding war over Jerry Hariston and Junior Spivey

Ford has six, Reynolds has six, Raschi has six, and I know you're gonna come up with some obscure inning that Berra or Mantle pitched in a throw away game, making them a "pitcher for the Yankees" or something.

Does it have to be a starter?

Its strictly pitchers, and it doesn't have to be a starter. You're on the right track. There's three other pitchers with six World Series wins with the Yanks.
