During tonights game with the Padres. Part of Marty's interview with Hal McCoy during the second inning:

Hal said he walked into the clubhouse today and Aaron was sitting there talking with Sean. He also talked with him and Aaron said he would be playing for some team's minor leagues in about two months. He also confirmed that about 15 teams had contacted him, including the Yankees (2nd base). Hal asked if the Reds had contacted him and he said no. Surprisingly, he told Hal that he would LOVE to come back to the Reds. Both Hal and Marty expressed their surprise that the Reds hadn't contacted him because of the third base "problem". Hal mentioned it to DO and Dan said they have no intention of calling Aaron because they intend to stick with Larson.

 

Lets have a contest. Who does he end up with? Many teams have holes Aaron Boone can fill in a few months. (Remember, he can play 3rd, Short, and 2nd).

Red Sox could use a good 2B but I doubt RSN would open their arms to him.

 

In closing my guess is he goes to Seattle and plays 3rd base with his brother at second. Bret has been pushing for them to get Arron for quite some time now and Speizio is not a good 3rd baseman.

Because they saved $4 mil or so by releasing him from his contract because he violated the no-bball clause. They know he still wants to come back a Yankee anyway, plus after not playing the first half of the year and being unsure of him after the injury, they can get him cheaper than that.

To clarify, most of these clauses cover all dangerous activities, and are not that specific.

 

Yankees and Reds are the most obvious teams. The Dodgers could be a dark horse.

ANAHEIM - Forget the tearful reunion with a clip of his momentous ALCS-winning homer playing on televisions in a press conference at the Stadium. The Yankees won't be re-signing playoff hero Aaron Boone to be their second baseman of the future, said a baseball official with knowledge of both the Yankees' and Boone's plans.

Boone, who hit one of the most memorable homers in Yankee history, blew out his left knee while playing pickup basketball last winter, which led the Yankees to pursue a trade and a position switch for Alex Rodriguez.

 

The Yankees terminated Boone's contract in March, giving him $917,533 in severance pay, and talked about the possibility of signing the free agent when he completes his rehab.

 

The Yankees and Boone's agent, Adam Katz, have had several discussions, but the team has decided to pass, said the source, who added that Boone wants to play third.

 

"He doesn't want to play second base," the official said. "He thinks he'll play third when he returns to the big leagues."

 

Yanks GM Brian Cashman would not say much about Boone - just that "we've talked. There's nothing advanced."

 

Boone, 31, batted .267 last season with 24 homers and 96 RBI for the Reds and Yankees. He was traded to the Bronx in July and hit .254 with six homers and 31 RBI there in 54 games.

 

Boone has said he believes he'll be ready to play again later this season, perhaps as early as August. He is rehabbing his knee.

 

He signed a one-year, $5.75 million contract with the Yankees last winter, but was injured while trying to keep in shape in the offseason. Unlike some players, who might have shaded the truth about the injury, Boone told the Yankees he was hurt playing basketball, which is forbidden in most player contracts.

 

The day in spring training that the Yankees terminated his deal, Cashman said they had initiated discussions on a new contract. Katz had said Boone would wait to decide on a team until he was closer to being ready to play.

 

Several other teams are believed to be interested in Boone. The Angels could be one now that Troy Glaus faces shoulder surgery.

 

The Red Sox showed some interest recently and made inquiries about Boone's rehab status and what it would take to get him signed, according to the Boston Herald. But the Bosox decided he wouldn't be a fit, the paper reported.

Don't both of those teams need bats? I'm not aware who is at third anymore for these teams.

Scott Spiezio is the 3rd basemen for Seattle and Chad Tracy/Shea Hillenbrand (when Sexson gets off the DL) is the 3rd basemen for Arizona.

 

Seattle would be better off moving Spiez back to 1st and signing Boone though, since John Olerud hasn't produced much this year, and didn't all of last year either.

Everyone knows he can play 2nd base. It's all over this thread. He can play 3rd, Short, and 2nd. So you acting like it's news, was rather funny.

 

He isn't demanding anything. But he is a free agent, so he has the right to sign as a 3rd basemen, and he will pick a team in need of a 3rd basemen. Obviously, if he wanted to play 2nd, he wouldn't have stated otherwise. He's a great defender at 3rd, and offers alot to a team. Power, speed, and a good OPS, meaning - a very productive player.
