Guest Anglesault Report post Posted May 15, 2004 Frustrated Johnson erupts after sleeping on close loss advertisement Frustrated Johnson erupts after sleeping on close loss Bob McManaman The Arizona Republic May. 14, 2004 12:00 AM Randy Johnson was boiling a day after his 1-0 loss against the Mets. He did not talk to reporters Wednesday - he said he "had to get home" - but his irritation about the game and the Diamondbacks' losing ways spilled out during a brief exchange before Thursday's game. Johnson, who lost to Tom Glavine, has earned only one victory despite giving up only four earned runs in his past three starts. It is reminiscent of a four-game stretch in 1999, when Johnson came up on the short end of four consecutive shutouts. "It's a loss. I don't care (what) the pitching matchup was," Johnson said. "I pitched a great game. It was the same kind of game (last Friday) against (Philadelphia's Vicente) Padilla." Wednesday was the first time in 15 years that two lefties with more than 230 career victories have faced each other, yet the Johnson-Glavine matchup drew 27,750 - the third-smallest crowd of the season. Johnson bristled when the topic of attendance was mentioned. "You think I'm worried about whether the fans are in the stands or not?" he said. "I've got a job to do." He rolled his eyes and continued. "I'm not looking up in the stands. I look up in the stands when I'm coming out of the bullpen to see if my family got here safe and after that, I'm walking into the game. "I don't care if there's 50,000, 100,000 or 505 people. If they want to come out and watch, more power to them. It's a lot of money to come out to a ballgame and lately, it's probably better spent going to the movies than coming to watch the Diamondbacks." Johnson paused and quickly added: "You got that on tape? . . . Print it. Run with it." Can anyone wait for the Dogfight for this one? Basically confined to the AL East. The Czech Republic 0 Report post Posted May 15, 2004 He'd better not go to Boston. You bring up a good point, Mr. Sault. I did not even realize the Schilling-Johnson reunion that would happen. The Red Sox do need a a 5-man rotation. Hmm.
MarvinisaLunatic 0 Report post Posted May 15, 2004 While the Orioles desperately need pitching, I doubt the Orioles have any expendable players which they can trade, but then it all depends on who Arizona would want.
Guest OctoberBlood Report post Posted May 15, 2004 Good for Johnson. He needs to get that team fired up and start hitting. Edit: Cory Lidle should do the same.

2GOLD 0 Report post Posted May 15, 2004 While the Orioles desperately need pitching, I doubt the Orioles have any expendable players which they can trade, but then it all depends on who Arizona would want. The O's are looking to deal Jerry Hairston and Jay Gibbons and possibly Luis Matos. I don't know WHY they would trade Gib or Matos, but Hairston and some minor leaguers for Johnson would seem workable. But he'll probably end up in NYC or BOSTON if he's dealt. I don't know if he'll be dealt though, I'd imagine he's not the only one in the clubhouse pissed off at the way they are playing right now.
Guest FrigidSoul Report post Posted May 15, 2004 I wouldn't be against Derek Lowe going to Arizona for The Big Unit. Imagine that rotation Pedro Unit Schill Wakefield Arroyo
HarleyQuinn 0 Report post Posted May 15, 2004 I can't see Johnson going to the Red Sox seeing as he would be paid $22.5 Million over the next three years($10.5, $6 and $6) and he's already 40 years old.

I've read a few times Boston doesn't want to increase their payroll dramatically after this season. While the trade would help Boston, like HQ says it would to much of a financial strain in the future.
EVIL~! alkeiper 0 Report post Posted May 15, 2004 I wouldn't be against Derek Lowe going to Arizona for The Big Unit. Imagine that rotation Pedro Unit Schill Wakefield Arroyo Why the heck would Arizona take Lowe? He's overrated, and a free agent after the season. I can understand Johnson's frustration. Watching the Phillies/D'backs game a week ago, the D'backs pissed away the game with shoddy defense.

Imagine that rotation Pedro Unit Schill Wakefield Arroyo If Certain people would pull their heads out of their asses and pitch like they can, Brown Unit Moose Javy Lieber would be comparable. Cartman 0 Report post Posted May 16, 2004 Lowe has value though. He's younger than RJ, and he won't cost THAT much ro re-sign, and he would probably thrive in a place like AZ where there's NO pressure at all. Send Lowe, and Kim along with a prospect or something and the deal works
EVIL~! alkeiper 0 Report post Posted May 16, 2004 I wouldn't trade shit for Lowe until he learns how to pitch again. 20:17 B:KK ratio is absolutely abysmal, and his ERA reflects it.
2GOLD 0 Report post Posted May 16, 2004 Yeah and... Johnson 4 other scrubs would look real nice in Baltimore too! Way Ainsworth and Ponson are pitching, you might look good in the rotation in Baltimore. I have no idea how they have won so many games when Kurt and Sid can't seem to last to the damn fourth inning. EVIL~! alkeiper 0 Report post Posted May 17, 2004 The Orioles have survived because Groom, Julio, Ryan, and Lopez are all pitching lights out from the bullpen.
Jericholic82 0 Report post Posted May 17, 2004 while I am a yankee fan I would have trouble accepting randy johnson since I dislike him so much, but then again no one thought roger clemens would fit in NY. and so if Boston gets greedy and signs another big name big money player, its ok cuz at least its not ny again? is that what I'm getting here? NY Haters but also we have no one to trade basically have dismanteld our famr system for quick fixes that haven't fixed anything. I will say that Lieber looked impressive against the angels though But then again im in slimy southern cali so I cant see many yanks games. I might be moving back to ny soon though so at least I have some consilation for leaving my home again.
