Downhome 0 Report post Posted May 17, 2004 I figured that I'd try this before trying something else. I bought a FS version of Down With Love just now on accident. I opened it up and started to play the film and wasn't happy at all. If anyone wants to buy this straight up, I'll ask for $10.50. Since it's FS, I'll obviously talk to people that are interested in it about lowering the price. If any of you have a WS Down With Love, I'll trade it straight up for it. Sincerely, ...Downhome... Guest Choken One Report post Posted May 17, 2004 who gives a flying fuck if it's full screen? I swear anal bitches that complain about these are very high on my "CHOKE" list. I know people that will cry the second I put in a movie and it's fullscreen and shit. Both are pretty equal to me.
Nighthawk 0 Report post Posted May 17, 2004 Only two kinds of people don't care about ws and fs. People who don't understand what it is, and idiots. I won't venture to say which one you are, Choke. But anyway, you should just trade it back in for the ws. I do it all the time if I get the wrong one by accident.
Downhome 0 Report post Posted May 17, 2004 1) If you watch a full screen DVD on a widescreen TV it is fucked up. You'll have black bars on the left and right, I believe, where the image would be if you had a widescreen format. 2) Even on a normal TV, with full screen you are losing quite a bit of the picture. This obviously doesn't apply to films that have the OAR as FS. I plan on buying a WS TV in the next year or so, so when I do that I want my DVDs to all look fine on them. It's not being anal, it's just me wanting what would work best on the equipment I will be using. Not to mention I prefer viewing a film, you know, in it's OAR. Downhome 0 Report post Posted May 17, 2004 But anyway, you should just trade it back in for the ws. I do it all the time if I get the wrong one by accident. I can't trade it back in, and I can't get a refund either. I bought it at a local video store, and those over it are a bunch of twats. I've had runins with them before, I can't stand them. If no one takes me up on this, here or elsewhere, I might just do the WalMart/KMart switch.
Guest Choken One Report post Posted May 17, 2004 I care about the CONTENT of the movie... I have a widescreen and a Full screen tv...so I can alternate. But seriously...it's something really fucking stupid and picky to be bugged about. So DH...All WWE dvds are FS as well...do you void those?
Downhome 0 Report post Posted May 17, 2004 I care about the CONTENT of the movie... I do to, that's why I like to SEE everything. I have a widescreen and a Full screen tv...so I can alternate. You really should learn about what you are complaining about before you...complain about it. So DH...All WWE dvds are FS as well...do you void those? Of course I don't avoid WWE DVDs, or TV shows, or old films and the such. Full screen is the OAR (original aspect ratio) for things like that. Go to the following page. http://www.widescreen.org/index.shtml
Guest Askewniverse Report post Posted May 17, 2004 who gives a flying fuck if it's full screen? Most people who have a decent knowledge about movies and DVDs. I swear anal bitches that complain about these are very high on my "CHOKE" list. What makes you think people who care about those things are "anal bitches?" So DH...All WWE dvds are FS as well...do you void those? You seem to have missed Downhome's point. Most of the content on WWE DVDs were originally shown on television, so they were meant to be seen in full screen. For the most part, movies are a different story. They were not meant to be shown in a full screen ratio. In most cases, if you watch a movie in full screen, you're not watching the movie the way that it was meant to be seen. Downhome 0 Report post Posted May 17, 2004 Here are a few examples from Mars Attacks. Mars Attacks! Original Aspect Ratio: 2.35:1 Cinematographic Process: Anamorphic 43% of the original image area is lost in the Pan & Scan version Actual unretouched screens from the DVD Since this film was shot with anamorphic lenses, there was no addtional picture information on the original film frame to use for the full-frame transfer. The only way to make the 2.35:1 image fit in a 1.33:1 window was to lop off 43% of the picture. Usually the new "camera" will try to focus on the most important object in the scene, or scan back and forth along the frame to keep the action centered. This often results in camera motion where there was none originally, as in the first shot shown below (the camera pans across from Michael J. Fox to Sarah Jessica Parker instead of remaining static as it does in the widescreen transfer).
Guest El Satanico Report post Posted May 17, 2004 How is this movie downhome? I wanted to see it, but haven't got around to it yet.
Downhome 0 Report post Posted May 17, 2004 How is this movie downhome? I wanted to see it, but haven't got around to it yet. I assume you are talking about Down With Love and not Mars Attacks. I love the movie, it just has so much charm for me. I love the soundtrack, the feel of the movie, the way the talk and act, and just all of the quirky things that are in the movie. It's just very entertaining, not to mention that Rene is just hot as hell, as always.
Guest El Satanico Report post Posted May 18, 2004 Yeah I meant Down With Love. I've seen Mars Attack! and enjoy it.
