Workers 3 Biggest Wins, 3 Biggest losses

Recommended Posts

Guest Astro

I'll start with a softball:

Hulk Hogan:

3 Biggest Wins:

1> vs Andre WM 3, The biggest Main Event of all time, and a match whose myths have survived nearly 20 years

2> Iron Shiek MSG Jan. 23 1984, The match that sent Hogan from Midwest Megastar (in the AWA) to World Wide house hold name. A squash that defined Hogan's patriotism and popularity, 2 traits that would define him for the next decade

3> Randy Savage, WM 5 March 89, The match was one of Hogan's best from a wrestling standpoint, the storyline was superb, the company made truck loads of money, and Hogan's winfall for his 20 mins of work here was a cool 1.3 million dollars. Match reignited Hulkamania, which had been dormant since Feb. of 88

3 biggest losses

1> Nick Bockwinkel, April 1983 - Hogan gets the 1-2-3 but is DQ'd post match and the place nearly riots. This loss proved just how much the fans wanted Hogan to be the man, and set the stage for the Hulkamania boom

2> Ultimate Warrior 4/1/90, Hogan attempts to pass the torch to the next big thing, and the match is viewed as being dramatic and top notch. The fact that the fans still loved Hogan more than Warrior after this is a testament to the love affair we all had with Hulkamania

3> The Rock WM 18, After being away from the WWF for nearly 10 years, Hulkamania is reborn as the crowd turns on top face The Rock and cheers the evil heel Hulk Hogan, this match gave the Rock further rub, as well as provied Hogan with one last run as a top guy

Defining Moment

The Andre Bodyslam- WM 3

Steve Austin

3 Biggest Wins

1. KOTR 96. Duh. It was the birth of Stone Cold.

2. WM14 vs HBK. This was what finally put the company back over WCW for good, and Austin went on the be the biggest draw in wrestling history.

3. WMX7 vs Rock. Austin turns heel for the first time in four years, and ultimately is the central figure of the InVasion. The "What?" phrase also came about during this period.

3 Biggest Losses:

1. WM13 vs Bret. A big loss in a different way, as this beautifully booked match was able to turn both participants at the same time and get the Austin bandwagon rolling like never before.

2. IYH 8 vs Savio Vega. This got DiBiase out of the picture and allowed Austin to become his own man.

3. SS96 vs Bret. Again, a big loss in a good way, as everyone from now on bought Austin as a legitimate main eventer.

Bret Hart

Wins:

1. vs Yokozuna, WM10 - Made him the top guy once again and the WWF showed they had faith in him.

2. vs Steve Austin, SS96 - Showed the world that he could still go and that he was still one of the best after his hiatus.

3. vs Mr. Perfect, Slam 91 - The match that established Bret as a singles threat and established the sharpshooter as a deadly finisher.

LosseS:

1. vs Shawn Michaels, SS97 - Do you even have to ask?

2. vs Shawn Michaels, WM12 - This match took something away from Bret which he never got back.

3. vs Yokozuna, WM9 - Bret's first, but not last, time getting fucked over by politics and it pretty much set him back a few steps.

Defining Moment: Being hoisted up by his fellow wrestlers at WM10.

Triple H

Key wins:

1. Hell In the Cell (No Way Out 2000): retires Cactus Jack in a match that everyone thought he was going to lose and didn't have a chance in.

2. WrestleMania 2000: first guy to survive three others and first heel to retain since Deisel

3. Royal Rumble '00: one of the best matches either man has ever had. Cactus may've returned, but he convinced a lot of people he was that damn good.

Other notable wins: Iron Man Match at Judgment Day 00, over Y2J at WrestleMania, first title win over Mankind on RAW, HBK at Armageddon, Kevin Nash at Badd Blood, Austin at No Way Out

Key losses:

1. vs. Goldberg at Unforgiven: These guys had a real-life feud and in their first one on one match (at least I think it was their first), HHH did the job. That's a lot of bragging rights gone down the drain.

2. HBK at Summerslam - sure we all knew HBK was going to win, but still...HHH had a lot of bragging rights on the line vs. his mentor, and he lost.

3. Hogan at Backlash - Hogan's first major win since his return, as he had lost to Rock at WM. This made HHH take a step back for a bit.

Other key losses: Rock at Backlash 2000, Kevin Nash at Judgment Day, Undertaker at WM17, Goldberg at Survivor Series, Benoit at WMXX

Defining moment: beating Foley on two straight PPVs, and then pinning him at WM

2. WrestleMania 2000: first guy to survive three others and first heel to retain since Deisel

Diesel was a face.

HHH was the first heel to walk out of WM with the title...Yokozuna was the first heel to successfully defend it at WM.

Wins:

1. The Rock, RAW

2. Steve Austin, Survivor Series

3. The Rock, Halftime Heat

Losses:

1. Triple H, No Way Out

2. Triple H, Royal Rumble

3. The Rock, Royal Rumble

Defining moment: Falling off the HIAC

Well, I thought for sure Triple H was gonna win. I was shocked when HBK won considering I thought it would be a one time only thing for Michaels and put over his best friend.

For Foley, I'd say KOTR 96 over Taker or the Boiler Room Brawl were bigger than the SS win over Austin or Halftime heat. Also, I'd take away the Rumble loss to HHH and replace that with HIAC with Taker. It (The Rumble match) was a great match, but in the grand scheme of things for Foley, it really didn't mean all that much.

3. vs Yokozuna, WM9 - Bret's first, but not last, time getting fucked over by politics and it pretty much set him back a few steps.

I'd replaced that with his loss to Davey Boy at SummerSlam. Such a great story, such a great match. Considering its still biggest PPV crowd behind WM III and Bret would move on to win his first WWF Championship 2 months. :)

HHH was the first heel to walk out of WM with the title...Yokozuna was the first heel to successfully defend it at WM

Yokozuna was also the first heel to win the title at a WM, he just didn't walk out with it. :P

why is everyone just thinking of matches and moments in wwf/e. Think about it mick foley's defining moment was when he won the king of the death match. O and one other thing Bret hart's loss to goldberg when he got a concussion from the mule kick has to be atleast one of his biggest losses i mean come on people your'e telling me that his loss to yokozuna at mania 9 is more important than his career ending loss to goldberg GIVE ME A BREAK.

Chris Jericho

Key Wins:

1. Vengeance 2001: Beating both The Rock and Austin back to back to become the first ever undisputed champion. Is there really any questioning this?

2. No Mercy 2001: Beating The Rock for the WCW title. This was the match that finally shut up all the nay sayers that said he would never win the big one.

3. Raw: Beating Triple H for the WWE World title. Despite having the decision revered and not even getting a rematch for the title it showed that Jericho could get the job done if given the chance.

Key Losses:

1. Wrestlemania XIX: Loosing to Shawn Micheals. A huge build-up which seemed like it would end with Jericho beating his hero. Alas it wasnt to be.

2. Wrestlemania X8: Loosing the undisputed title to Triple H in the main event at Wrestlemania. Thats ALMOST as big of a loss as you can get.

3. Fully Loaded 2000: Loosing to Triple H in the last man standing match. Though he lost the match he proved that he was for real in the best last man standing match bar none.

Defining Moment:

Raw 1999: When Jericho made his debut after weeks of hype with the clock doing the countdown to his debut. He then showed up and verbally sparred with The Rock in one of the most entertaining segments in the over 11 year history of Raw. It also showed that there was a new guy in town who was ready to finally get his break and make the name for himself that he was never given a chance to in WCW.

Personally, I would put Foley-Austin-HHH at SummerSlam '99 ahead of the last two. Not only did Foley win the Title(albeit for one night, to transition the belt onto Triple H), but it was Austin's first clean pinfall job since winning the belt. It was also the only time Foley ever won the Title clean, and on PPV...at the second biggest show of the year, no less.

Bret didn't lose the match to Goldberg though...Piper as referee helped him retain the title Survivor Series style.

I'd do one of Kane, but I can't really think of 3 big wins, or 3 big loses.

Kevin Nash:

3 Biggest Wins:

1) Vs. Bob Backlund, MSG, 1st world Title, November 1994.

2) Vs. Bill Goldberg, Starrcade 1998, 2nd world Title.

3) Vs. DDP, Slamboree 1999, World Title victory.

3 Greatest Losses:

1) Vs. Hulk Hogan, January 1999 Nitro. "Finger Poke" incident DESTROYED Nash's mega-babyfush push along with remaining credibility of the title. Almost killed the company (which eventually died), much less Nash's credibility.

2) Vs. Bret Hart, Survivor Series 1995 (Ended his year-long reign, started him down the road to unsuccessful heeldom on way out of WWF)

3) Vs. Triple H, Hell in a Cell, Bad Blood 2003. Showed that even with Vince's '03 "Nostalgia Acts", Nash couldn't hack it in the Main Event scene. Besides a brief appearence in the SummerSlam 2003 Elimination Chamber, this was his last, and quite unsuccessful, hurrah.

Comment on Kane...

I'd think dropping the WORLD TITLE 1 day after winning it would be a bigger loss than getting illegally eliminated by the pesky X-Pac in the Rumble.

Wouldn't Kane's awesome effort and runner-up loss to Austin in the 2001 Rumble be even a "bigger" loss than the X-Pac elimination in 2000, anyway?

Ric Flair:

Key Wins:

1. vs. Dusty Rhodes (September 17, 1981) – Ric Flair did the impossible on this date in 1981 as he won his first NWA Title defeating Dusty Rhodes after being told that he would never wrestle again as a result of an airplane accident that killed one, left Johnny Valentine with a career ending injury, and broke the back of wrestling promoter David Crockett.

2. Royal Rumble 1992 – For years Ric Flair would be thought of as the big fish in the small pond, until he came to the World Wrestling Federation. He won the WWF Heavyweight title on January 19,1992 in what most people consider the greatest Royal Rumble match in WWF/WWE history.

3. vs. Harley Race (November 24, 1983) – He defeated the greatest NWA champion of all time(up to this point) at the very first Starrcade in a steel cage match.

Key Losses:

1. vs. Ricky Steamboat (Feburary 20, 1989) – Flair lost the NWA World Title to his greatest rival on that day in 1989.

2. vs. Kerry Von Erich (May 6,1984) – Even though the match isn’t that great…..it’s result has legendary proportions.

3. Sting (July 7, 1990) – This was a passing the torch to his greatest WCW rival.

Defining moment – Too hard to find the defining moment.....

The Rock

Wins:

1. vs Triple H, Backlash 2000 - Ended the Game's big heel run and cemented himself as the top guy by not getting overshadowed by Austin.

2. vs Hulk Hogan, WMX8 - Hogan put the Rock over HUGE and the Rock came out looking like a million bucks.

3. vs Mankind, SS98 - His first title win and the match that cemented him as a top guy.

Losses:

1. vs Triple H, WM2000 - The first time a face has ever lost a WM ME and a win would've done so much for the Rock.

2. vs Steve Austin, WM17 - No explanation needed.

3. vs Triple H, Summerslam 98 - The match that MADE the Rock.

Defining Moment: Beating Hogan clean at WMX8.

3). Undertaker at Series 2000. (first world title)

Actually, he won his first World Title from The Rock at No Mercy 2000. I think this match was his first successful PPV defense, though.

I was getting ready to post one for Rock but I see OrangeGoblin beat me to it (). Only difference between my list and his was I included Rock's first I-C Title win for a biggest win instead of the match with HHH for Backlash (since it's what caused the fans to resent him in the first place) and instead of the WM2000 loss, I had his Backlash loss to Austin as a biggest loss, since that one led to his face turn.

Chris Benoit

Wins:

1. Triple H & Shawn Micheals-WrestleMania XX...Duh

2. Royal Rumble 2004-Put on one of the greatest performances in Royal Rumble history, broke Backlund's record and was in there twice as long as Micheals in '95.

3. Triple H & Micheals-Backlash 2004..."proved" he wasn't a one hit wonder, and successfully retained the Title in his hometown. Handed Micheals his first clean loss since his comeback.

Losses:

1. Angle-Royal Rumble 2003...One of the greatest matches of the 21st century, so far... Recieved a standing O for his performance.

2. Bret Hart-Owen Hart Tribute, Nitro

3. The Rock-Fully Loaded...His first WWE PPV Main Event, where he literally almost won the belt. Another great match that only made both guys look stronger.

Defining Moment: Making Triple H tap in the Main Event of WrestleMania to capture his first World Title in WWE.

I screwed up. I meant the Kane/X-Pac singles match at No Way Out, not his participation in the Rumble match. And I also forgot about the world title loss, so yeah.

1. Hogan-WrestleMania 3

2. Inoki-NJPW

3. Umm...Warrior? Although it was a series of losses, usually squashes, because Andre was so deteriorated at this point.

I guess those work...

Unless tag team losses count, then the Colossal Connection loss to Demolition I think would have to replace the matches against Warrior

Also, how did Andre lose to Inoki?
